Intermission: The Fate of the First

I managed to escape the Necromancer's lair. All this time I've pretended to be unable to walk so he'll let his guard down. I was gambling on finding an opportunity to escape before the Demonic Possession took my legs too and using the opportunity brought by the elf girl who was mutated by my blood, I broke the lock of the cage and escaped. But where should I go now? For what reason should I live? My own people abandoned me after I caught the Demonic Possession. It wasn't long before I was caught by another bandit group and my Demonic Possession progressed far enough to engulf my entire body, slowly taking away my mind with it.

I don't remember how much time passed since then but I was surprised when I gained control of both my body and my mind again.

"Hmm… What should I do? Oh. I have an idea!"

I hear the voice of a young boy, though at the time I couldn't hear him properly due to me just regaining my consciousness after losing it for a long time.

"Bear witness! This is the first stage of the Eminence in Shadow! Ahem!"

As my blurry vision gets clearer, I see a black haired human boy sitting on a wooden crate in an abandoned house, gazing at me.

"You're finally awake."

"Uhh…?"

I rise up from the floor and notice that my body, once ravaged by the Possession, has been completely cured, as if the Possession never happened. My skin, once rotten and blemished, is now fair and smooth as it was before. Impossible.

"My body… impossible!"

"The curse that ravaged your body has been lifted. You are now free."

The boy, my supposed savior, revealed that the Demonic Possession is the work of the Demon Diablos, who cursed the descendants of the Three Heroes who defeated him, that the demon worshipping cult, the Cult of Diablos, rewrote history to condemn the Heroes' descendants like me in order to persecute us, that they intend to resurrect the demon and that his mission is to fight them in the shadows because they will never step into the light.

I believe his story, for I have suffered under their hands. Necromancer, who experimented on me… must've been a member of the Cult of Diablos. That's the only reason he would be interested in experimenting on me and that poor girl. His story also makes sense considering my blood triggered the curse in that girl too, even to the point of turning her into a monster.

"Yes. My name is Styli- No. My name is Shadow. The one who lurks in the shadows and hunt the shadows."

As he introduces himself, a purplish magic engulfed him. I was alarmed when I saw his outfit changed into a black hooded robe that almost resemble my tormentor's own but I notice differences between them, like how my tormentor is taller than him, has white hair and wore a skull mask. I calmed down after noticing the difference between them.

This boy… Shadow… he is my savior… and currently my only ally in this world.

I swore an oath to serve my savior, Shadow, and he bestowed me with the name Alpha. And it was there that my life began anew, under the banner of Shadow Garden.

Author's Note:

Short chapter to reveal No. 001/Alpha's fate and establish where the story is so far in the timeline. I made it ironic that she is both Cid and Claude's first.
