Chapter 14 - The White Sun

"You... are one of us?"

The angel's voice descended upon Levian, elegant, something between masculine and feminine.

"No, I'm mistaken. Your identity confuses me. What race are you?"

Levian looked up at the figure who hovered high in the sky, yet their voice was heard as though they were directly beside him.

The angel was the size of a regular human, and draped over its body were white robes covering its figure. Its face was a white glowing blur, blocking out its features, and atop its head sat a golden halo.

Behind the angel, glaring at Levian through the crack in the sky was a gloating bronze eye, the size of a small house.

The eye blinked every so often, sending gentle waves of wind through the forest leaves.

"You do not speak?" The angels questioned, tilting their glowing heads slightly to the side.

Levian wanted to speak, but the words struggled to leave his mouth.

"W-what do you mean, one of us?" He finally managed. The angel's words made no sense to him.

"It was a mistake, your presence simply reminded me of that of a demigod like myself. Upon further inspection, I realised that I was wrong."

Then, the angel began to float upwards once again, returning to the crack in the sky where it could be reunited with the floating eyeball.

Beyond the crack, Levian could sense a presence that frightened him to his core. Even more terrifying than when he had met the skeleton in his room.

Before the angel left, it turned back and said to Levian.

"But something is interesting about you. Interesting enough that I will not take your life, and steal that weapon from your hands..."

Then, without any more words, the beings vanished, and the sky closed once again.

Levian fell to his knees, dropping his weapon beside him as he struggled for breath.

The air around him finally went still, and it felt as though a giant pressure had been lifted from his shoulder.

"What... the fuck... is going on?" He muttered to himself between breaths.

Once again he had been visited by a mystical being, and once again... he had been left alone.

One of us...

Demigods...

What could the words possibly mean?

Ancient Demigods were speculated to still exist in the wider world. Some believed in them more than others, due to personal experiences.

They were said to be beings that existed in alternate realms, who had far exceeded the common ranking system of bronze to platinum.

In a way, they were like bosses. However, they could not be located through dungeons, and they had ways to interact with the real world without human intervention, unlike regular bosses that needed to be found using TRUTH.

The only times that rumours of currently existing demigods had spread were when a mythical weapon was claimed. Few tales similar to Levian's had been told.

However, most of these people ended up going missing shortly afterwards.

Still, that doesn't answer his main question.

What did it mean by 'one of us'?

Levian ignored it for now and finally stared down at the weapon that he had dropped on the floor.

It was a mythical, completely different from Nyx, but certainly equal in power.

The white sun was a 5-foot-long pole with a glowing white sun at the head, granting it the title of "mace". Golden metal lining was decorated around the pole, giving it an elegant appearance.

It was an uncommon type of weapon. Millennia ago, before the system existed and humans fought only with crude tools, such a weapon type would have been seen as inefficient.

The great hammer was often favoured over the great mace, but Levian seemed to have created the latter.

He lifted it in both hands. It was larger and heavier than Nyx and felt strange to wield.

Yet, its attack power, elemental power, and critical multiplier were all greater than Nyx's. Not to mention the weapon skills and talents that came with it.

If I fight in the sun, the weapons' elemental damage will be doubled to 640? If I landed a critical hit whilst in the sun. With a 5.5 multiplier, I would end up doing... 3520 Attack Power?

That's more than double the attack power I had when using Nyx to slice down Jericho... not to mention that it would all go towards elemental damage.

A weapon's standard attack power and elemental attack power were not added together. Instead, they were calculated separately, with only the more effective of the two applying, based on the target's resistance.

For example, if a solar weapon had equal stats in both standard and elemental attack power, and they came across an opponent with resistance towards solar, the weapon's standard power would apply.

However, if that same weapon were to come against someone with no defence towards fire, the elemental power would apply.

This is simply due to the system evolving over time to prioritise efficiency.

Levian shivered, and yet a smile spread across his face.

With the two mythicals in my possession, I think I can do it... I think I can defeat my brother.

However, before getting his hopes up, he had to flee from the forest.

There was a high chance that the angel's appearance earlier had gained the attention of the nearby estates, or even the nearest megacity.

So, he placed The White Sun back into his soulspace next to Nyx. The familiar pressure weighed down on him.

I'm going to have to get used to carrying two mythicals at a time.

And then, without wasting another second, Levian hurried through the forest and headed back towards the Bladeblessed estate.
