Thirty years ago, the sky broke.
It began with an energy storm sweeping across the globe in a blinding flash. For most, it was just a terrifying night that left them with scars or strange memories.
However, for a select few, the storm was a catalyst for rapid mutagenesis. It triggered a violent rewrite of their genetic blueprint, granting them abilities that defied nature and reassembling their very essence into the first of a new species known to mankind.
This was the birth of the Peculiars.
Yet, nature rarely gives without taking something in return. And so, human transfection wasn't the storm's only consequence.
Nightmarish creatures were also unleashed - Dogmas. Many believe they're "failed" versions of the transfection cursed to be monsters.
This era was christened Neo Opus, a "New Creation" of evolution. But beneath that grand title lay a fractured world. While some look upon the Peculiars with a religious fascination, the majority of society - Normies - harbour a deep resentment born of fear and the unwillingness to accept change.
It is a world held together by a fragile peace and the reassurances of scientists who insist the storm was a singular, never-to-be-repeated anomaly.
Today, order is manufactured within the pressurized walls of Argona. This domed sanctuary survives on Venerum, a potent mana source mined and distributed by Siso Corp, controlled by the mogul Karver Sisori.
Inside these walls, life is strictly policed by the Cura Supernorum, a quasi-religious organization dedicated to regulating Peculiars and all things supernatural.
Now, the year is 2040 in the area society would rather ignore..
