Chapter 809 – "The One Who Watches"

The soft glow of the camp's lanterns reflected faintly off the snow outside Alex's tent. Inside, Leng Yuer lay resting against him, the gleam of her new white choker still catching the light.

Beyond the thin veil of the tent flap, Yu Mei's voice was low and amused. "She's been watching us the whole time."

Shi Lian followed her gaze toward the shadows at the edge of the camp, where a figure in pale, flowing robes stood partly concealed behind a frost-covered column. Her hair was long and dark, tumbling like silk over her shoulders, and her snow-white outer robe framed a form that was both graceful and undeniably alluring. The faint breeze teased at the delicate strands of her hair, but her eyes — sharp, cool, and luminous — never wavered from the tent.

"The Former Sect Master of Glacial Spirit Pavilion," Shi Lian said, her tone calm but calculating. "She's curious. Too curious to stay away."

Yu Mei's lips curved into a knowing smile. "She's seen enough to be tempted. And that makes her easy to draw in."

Shi Lian crossed her arms. "We'll need a different approach. She's colder by nature — direct seduction will only make her pull back. We let her think she's in control… until she's already too far in."

Yu Mei glanced toward the tent, her voice dropping. "We'll use what she's seen. Let her believe she's only satisfying her curiosity. Then we let Alex do the rest."

Shi Lian's eyes glinted faintly. "And the mist?"

"Later," Yu Mei replied. "We'll plant the thought first. Once she steps inside willingly… that's when we close the net."

Outside, the woman in white shifted slightly, unaware that the two were already plotting her next move. The silver ornament at her waist caught the moonlight, her serene expression betraying nothing of the heat hidden beneath her composed exterior.

"She's ours," Yu Mei said softly, her tone certain.

Shi Lian's gaze didn't leave the shadowed figure. "She just doesn't know it yet."

Yu Mei's smile turned sharper as an idea formed. "She won't walk into the lion's den on her own," she murmured. "So… we'll give her a reason."

Shi Lian arched a brow. "What do you have in mind?"

Yu Mei glanced toward the icy columns near the camp's edge, where the pale-robed woman still stood half-hidden. "She prides herself on composure — but she's also a sect master. She won't ignore an opportunity to speak to someone powerful if it's presented in public."

Shi Lian's expression shifted, understanding dawning. "You want to bait her."

Yu Mei's smirk deepened. "Exactly. Watch."

She strolled out into the open snow, letting the cold wind play at the loose strands of her hair. When she reached the center of the camp, she raised her voice just enough to carry.

"Alex," she called, her tone casual but just loud enough to draw attention. "Leng Yuer wants you to check the stability of her mana channels after the… adjustments we made earlier."

The tent flap shifted, and Alex stepped out into the night air, still dressed in the loose black tunic he'd thrown on after their time together. His presence was immediate, commanding, even without trying.

Yu Mei moved closer to him, speaking in a voice meant for both him and the distant observer. "You're the only one here with the precision to do it without damaging her cultivation."

Out of the corner of her eye, Yu Mei saw it — the slight shift in the shadowed figure, the faint narrowing of her eyes. The bait had been taken.

Shi Lian emerged from behind another tent, playing her part perfectly. "Of course, if the Former Sect Master of Glacial Spirit Pavilion is interested…" She let the sentence trail off, deliberately tilting her head toward the watcher. "…she might learn something useful as well."

That did it.

The woman stepped forward at last, the moonlight spilling over her pale robes and flawless features. Her expression was still calm, but her measured steps carried an undeniable curiosity.

Yu Mei hid her satisfaction behind a polite smile. "Sect Master, how fortunate — we were just speaking of techniques that might benefit you as well. Would you like to join us?"

Her eyes flicked briefly to Alex, and for the first time, her composure cracked just enough to let a spark of interest show.

The woman's eyes lingered on Alex for a heartbeat longer than was polite before she inclined her head slightly. "If this… technique is as precise as you say, then yes. I would like to observe it."

Yu Mei's smile was all warmth on the surface, but the spark in her eyes was pure calculation. "Perfect. Come, then. Alex was just about to begin."

Shi Lian stepped aside, gesturing toward the tent flap with the smooth deference of a hostess. "You'll find it warmer inside. And more… comfortable for demonstration."

The Sect Master of Glacial Spirit Pavilion nodded once and followed them in, her white robes brushing against the fabric of the tent as she entered. The faint scent of the pink mist still clung to the air, though diluted — just enough to plant a subtle familiarity without raising suspicion.

Inside, the light from the small mana lamp cast a soft glow over the space. Leng Yuer was seated at the side, her new white choker gleaming against her neck, watching the new arrival with a knowing half-smile.

Yu Mei moved toward the cushions laid out across the carpeted floor. "Please, sit here," she said, indicating the place opposite Alex. "He'll be able to assess your channels more clearly if you're comfortable."

The Sect Master hesitated — just for a moment — then lowered herself with composed grace, folding her hands neatly in her lap. Her gaze flicked to Alex, steady and unflinching, though the faintest trace of curiosity softened the edge.

Alex met her eyes without a word, his expression calm. "If you're willing, I'll begin by sensing the flow of your mana directly. That will let me see where instability might be hiding."

She gave a small nod. "Do as you must."

As Alex moved closer, Yu Mei and Shi Lian exchanged a quick glance. It was the first step — proximity, trust, the smallest opening in her guard. All they needed to do now was widen it.

Yu Mei positioned herself just behind the Sect Master's shoulder, close enough that her voice could be a quiet murmur in the woman's ear if needed. Shi Lian, meanwhile, busied herself adjusting the mana lamp, subtly altering the light and air flow so the space felt more intimate, more enclosed.

This was no longer a simple technical discussion.

It was the beginning of her fall.

Alex moved to kneel before her, his posture relaxed yet deliberate. "Give me your hands," he said quietly.

The Sect Master extended them, her pale fingers resting lightly in his palms. The warmth of his skin seeped into hers immediately, a sharp contrast to the faint chill her body carried.

His thumbs began to trace small circles along her wrists, just above the pulse points. To her, it looked like nothing more than a method to feel her mana flow — and it was — but the motion carried a subtle rhythm, one that encouraged the body to loosen without realizing it.

"Your channels are steady," Alex murmured, his gaze fixed on the faint blue shimmer of her aura. "But your core output is restrained. Like you've been holding it back for too long."

Her lips curved faintly. "One does not become Sect Master by being reckless."

Yu Mei, now standing just over her shoulder, let out a low hum. "True. But sometimes restraint becomes a cage." Her words were soft enough to feel like they were meant only for the Sect Master, a seed planted in the privacy of the moment.

Alex's hands slid upward along her forearms, his fingertips brushing over sensitive points that doubled as minor mana gates. "I can release that restraint… if you allow me to."

Her eyes met his, calm but searching. "And if I do, what will it cost me?"

Shi Lian moved closer to the lamp, dimming the light just slightly so shadows softened the space. "Perhaps nothing," she said, her voice like cool silk. "Or perhaps… only what you are willing to give."

Alex leaned in slightly, his voice low. "Breathe with me. Let your mana follow mine."

She inhaled slowly, her attention narrowing to the deep, steady rhythm of his breathing. As she exhaled, his hands moved higher, brushing the sides of her shoulders, lingering at the junction of neck and collarbone — a sensitive nexus where energy could be guided with precision.

The closeness was undeniable now, the air between them charged.

From her position behind, Yu Mei adjusted the fall of the Sect Master's long hair, sweeping it gently to one side under the pretense of clearing the way for Alex's work. The subtle brush of fingers along her neck made her pulse quicken, though her expression remained composed.

"Good," Alex murmured. "You're opening."

And she was — just enough for the first threads of influence to slip through.

Alex's thumbs pressed gently into the nexus points at her shoulders, his own mana flowing outward in a steady, controlled stream. It slid into her channels like warm water through a frozen river, melting the stiffness she'd carried for decades.

Her breath hitched faintly — not from discomfort, but from the sudden rush of vitality that followed the heat.

"You have constriction in your left arm channel," Alex murmured, his voice low and focused. "It's been limiting the speed of your circulation."

Her eyes narrowed slightly. "That's… accurate. I've had that since—"

"Since your duel with the Northern Frost Sect's patriarch twenty years ago," he finished for her, his fingers adjusting minutely. "The scar tissue is mana-burn, and it's been feeding instability into your core ever since."

Before she could respond, his mana pulsed — precise, surgical — and the blockage dissolved instantly. She gasped softly at the sudden flood of free-flowing energy rushing down her arm, warmth replacing the old, dull ache she'd grown used to ignoring.

Alex moved to her right side, his touch never lingering too long in one place. "Your right lung meridian has a slight tear. You've been feeling short of breath in prolonged battles."

Her brows lifted in surprise. "I never told anyone—"

"You didn't have to," he said simply, sending a warm thread of energy into the channel. The tear knitted closed under his will, the pressure in her chest easing in an instant.

He didn't stop. His hands shifted to her back, pressing lightly along her spine. "Several of your vertebral gates are misaligned. That's why you've had trouble sustaining higher-level techniques for more than six minutes."

The words were matter-of-fact, but the speed with which he corrected each problem left her almost dizzy. His mana sank deep into her body, repairing damaged nodes, smoothing rough passages, even treating chronic weaknesses she had long ago resigned herself to living with.

"This is your lower abdominal core node," he continued, resting one hand just above her navel. "It's partially dormant. You've been compensating with overuse of your upper channels, which is why you've had headaches in cold weather."

Her lips parted in disbelief — not only had he seen through every hidden issue in her cultivation, but he was fixing them in seconds, problems that even the most skilled healers might take weeks to address.

One by one, the aches, the small flaws, the silent drains on her strength were erased. By the time he leaned back, his mana flow easing, she felt… different. Whole.

Alex's gaze met hers steadily. "All of that is fixed now. The symptoms will be gone by tomorrow."

She didn't answer right away. Her mind was still reeling from the absence of pain she hadn't realized she'd grown accustomed to, from the clean, sharp strength now running freely through her channels.

And beneath it all… the faint, addictive taste of the surge she didn't yet know she'd crave.

Alex's hands stilled for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly as if weighing something. "Your channels are clear now," he said, "but… your body still isn't as strong as it could be."

The Sect Master tilted her head, her composure unbroken. "Are you suggesting I'm weak?"

"Not weak," he replied calmly. "Vulnerable. And that's not acceptable." His gaze softened, but the weight of his tone made it clear — this wasn't about judgment, it was about concern. "If you'll allow it, I can reinforce your physical foundation. You'll be harder to injure, faster to recover, and more resistant to strain."

For a brief moment, she hesitated. Then she gave a single, deliberate nod. "Do it."

He moved behind her, one palm resting lightly between her shoulder blades. Mana surged again, this time in a denser, more complex pattern. Golden-white circuits bloomed across her skin in intricate lines, each one pulsing faintly before sinking beneath the surface.

The warmth spread through her muscles, weaving into bone and sinew alike, knitting strength into every fiber. The lingering fatigue she'd felt from decades of battles vanished, replaced by a deep, grounded power.

Her breath caught. "I… feel lighter."

"And stronger," Alex said, stepping around to face her. "Your reflexes will sharpen, your endurance will double, and you'll be able to withstand direct strikes from someone at your level without crippling injury."

Her eyes searched his, as if trying to understand why he'd gone to such lengths.

He answered before she could ask. "From your expression, from the way you carry yourself… you look like someone who causes trouble."

One of her brows rose, though there was the faintest hint of a smirk at the edge of her lips. "And?"

"And troublemakers attract danger," he said simply. "So I'm making sure you can handle it."

She didn't reply immediately — but the slight flush in her cheeks and the faint warmth in her gaze spoke volumes.

For the first time in a long while, someone had made her stronger not for political gain, not for obligation… but simply because he wanted to keep her safe.

And that was dangerous in a way she wasn't ready to admit.

Chapter 810 – "The Safest Place"

Yu Mei had been quiet until now, content to let Alex work, but the moment she saw the faint blush on the Sect Master's cheeks, she stepped forward.

Her tone was light, almost conversational, yet there was a glint of intent behind her eyes. "You know," she said, folding her arms loosely, "this is what it means to be his. It's not just strength or technique — it's safety. The kind no sect, no alliance, no fortress could give you."

The Sect Master glanced at her, expression still guarded. "Safety?"

Yu Mei smiled, slow and confident. "If you're his, no one touches you without his permission. And if they try…" Her gaze flicked to Alex, her smirk deepening. "…well, you've seen what he can do."

Shi Lian moved in as well, her voice softer, coaxing. "It's not just about avoiding danger. It's knowing that if danger comes, you don't have to face it alone. He'll stand in front of you — every time."

Alex didn't interrupt, but his steady presence, the lingering warmth of his mana still flowing through her body, made their words sink deeper.

Yu Mei's tone shifted, becoming more intimate. "That's why women like us choose to stay close to him. We're strong on our own, yes… but with him, we're untouchable."

The Sect Master's eyes lingered on Alex, on the calm strength in his stance, the way his concern for her earlier had been direct and without pretense.

"It sounds," she said slowly, "like you're suggesting I join you."

Yu Mei's smirk was subtle but certain. "I'm suggesting you think about how good it would feel… to never have to look over your shoulder again."

And for the first time, the Former Sect Master of Glacial Spirit Pavilion didn't immediately reject the thought.

Yu Mei stepped closer, letting her voice drop to a tone that was gentle enough to feel personal but loud enough for Alex to hear. "Of course… treatments like the one he gave you today should be checked after a short while."

The Sect Master tilted her head slightly. "Checked?"

"Yes," Yu Mei said smoothly. "He's just opened channels and repaired damage you've carried for decades. Your body will need to adjust, and sometimes the improvements settle in ways that can be… fine-tuned. It would be a shame to waste his precision by leaving it unfinished."

Shi Lian added, "It's also a chance to see if your new resilience is functioning properly under stress. We'd normally wait a week, but with Alex's skill, he could give you a follow-up in just a few days and push your gains even further."

The Sect Master's eyes narrowed faintly, as though weighing the suggestion. "And this follow-up… would it be as thorough as today?"

Yu Mei's smirk deepened. "More. The second session always is. Once your channels are familiar with his energy, they'll open faster, respond better… and the results will be even more noticeable."

Shi Lian glanced at Alex, then back to the Sect Master. "Besides… now that he's familiar with your body's patterns, he can strengthen you in ways others wouldn't even think to attempt."

The Sect Master's gaze flickered to Alex again. For the first time since she'd entered the tent, there was no guardedness in her eyes — only curiosity, and the faint spark of anticipation.

"Very well," she said finally. "I'll return for this… follow-up."

Yu Mei's smile was pure satisfaction. "We'll be expecting you."

When the Sect Master of Glacial Spirit Pavilion finally left the tent, her pale robes trailing behind her like a ribbon of snow, Yu Mei waited until she was out of earshot before speaking.

"She's halfway there already," Yu Mei said, her eyes narrowing in satisfaction. "That follow-up will be the moment she stops thinking she's just a guest and starts realizing she's his."

Shi Lian's lips curved into a knowing smile. "You want to set the stage before she even arrives."

"Exactly," Yu Mei replied. "The tent will be prepared — lighting low, warmth high, the pink mist concentrated just enough to loosen her without alerting her. And this time, we won't just let Alex work on her channels. We'll make sure she feels the difference in every part of her body."

Shi Lian tilted her head. "You're going to make it seem like part of the treatment?"

Yu Mei's smirk deepened. "It will be part of the treatment. By the time she realizes what's happening, it'll already feel natural to accept it. And once she does… she'll want more. That's when she'll give herself to him without hesitation."

Shi Lian crossed her arms, her gaze thoughtful. "And Leng Yuer and Xue Lian can be there, subtly reinforcing it. Seeing them so content, so powerful, will be the final push."

"Exactly," Yu Mei said, her tone almost pleased. "She already saw Leng Yuer today, and it got her thinking. At the follow-up, she'll see the truth for herself."

They shared a glance — the kind born of perfect understanding — and then Yu Mei's smile sharpened just enough to carry the promise of inevitability.

"She's already walking toward the net," Yu Mei said. "All we have to do is close it."
