After mastering the Water-Making Spell, Wyzett wasted no time in sharing it with Luna.
Though Luna hadn't officially started at Hogwarts and couldn't yet cast the spell with a wand, her enthusiasm was undampened. She was utterly fascinated by the ritual magic behind the Water-Making Spell.
After many experiments, Wyzett determined that the ritual version of the spell was perfectly safe, so he relaxed and helped Luna sketch out the ritual diagrams.
Instead of the usual crystals or magical creature feathers as ritual mediums, Luna opted for all sorts of magical plants from around the house. Each time she performed the ritual, the water she conjured had a unique taste—sometimes tart, sometimes sweet, always different and always delightful.
Even the Sleipnir was intrigued, trotting over to lap up the sweet water with a stamp of approval.
With the magical horse keeping watch, Wyzett felt free to turn his attention back to the treasures he'd brought home from Sweden.
Now that the malevolent curse of the Obscurus had been purified, his casting of Ancient Magic: Shield Charm was swifter than ever. A mere flick of his hand, and a shimmering barrier would leap to life. All the old dangers had been thoroughly dealt with.
His focus shifted to something far more elusive: Fulgur, the ancient spell of thunder and lightning.
Fulgur was unique—it offered only a name, no concrete instructions, much like the Ancient Magic: Soul-Cleansing Charm had once done. Back then, he'd had to invent the details and give it a name himself.
Applying the same logic, Wyzett realized he'd have to unravel the secrets of Fulgur before the spellbook would reveal its full power.
Since the Odin Ruins were in Sweden, it was no surprise that local wizards had delved deeply into the mysteries of storm magic. The clearest evidence lay in the ancient murals and their painstaking interpretations.
Both wizard murals and Muggle myths agreed on one thing: lightning was the embodiment of power and authority.
He remembered the vision from that kaleidoscopic realm—the skeletal figure's every spell was undone by a single, unadorned bolt of lightning.
With Ancient Magic: Shield Charm for protection, choosing Fulgur as an offensive weapon was the perfect complement.
Drawing on his experience with the Water-Making Spell, Wyzett pored over mural interpretations, seeking a way into this most enigmatic of ancient magics.
There were several interpretations of storm rituals. Wyzett chose one that began with a classic ritual: summoning lightning.
This ritual was far more demanding than conjuring water. The ideal conditions called for a looming thunderstorm—at the very least, a sky so overcast that the sun was nowhere to be seen.
The site mattered too: a mountaintop or an open highland was best, and the area had to be ritually cleansed with pure water.
Compared to the weather and location requirements, the arrangement of mediums was simple: just a collection of upright oak branches.
Wyzett didn't stray far from home, choosing a nearby clearing for his experiment.
He wanted to experience firsthand what it was like for ancient wizards to summon lightning with ritual magic.
For them, success depended on meticulous attention to every step.
But Wyzett had an advantage those old wizards lacked: the Oculus Magicae—the Eye of Magic.
Inspired by Luna's approach to ritual magic, he observed the entire process through his magical sight, correcting and adjusting the ritual as he went to ensure it worked flawlessly.
It was a shortcut unique to him, but it worked.
Through the Oculus Magicae, he saw that the ritual formed several incomplete magical circuits—gaps caused by the less-than-ideal weather and site.
Wyzett waved his wand, filling in each gap. Every time he completed a circuit, he made careful notes in his journal, preparing for deeper research.
As the magical circuit neared completion, the weather began to shift. The clouds overhead seemed drawn by invisible hands, gathering above the ritual, growing heavier and darker by the minute.
A smile tugged at Wyzett's lips—this was even more fascinating than he'd imagined.
Ritual and effect were intertwined. As the ritual neared perfection, the sky responded, as if the magic itself was calling the storm, drawing the clouds together until they became a mass of swirling, ominous black.
Suddenly, an idea sparked in his mind: this "attraction" could be adapted to the Summoning Charm.
All magic was connected. With his deep studies in Transfiguration, he wondered—what if he could turn himself into a magical circuit, drawing objects to him as naturally as clouds to a storm?
Excited, Wyzett jotted the thought down for later exploration.
Rumble...
Just as he finished writing, a deep peal of thunder rolled through the clouds above.
He looked up, watching the ritual with the Oculus Magicae. The air was thick and heavy; only the space between the ritual site and the storm clouds seemed to glow, lightning slithering within the blackness.
The clouds grew darker still, like ink that refused to dissolve. After that last rumble, there was a profound silence—as if the sky was holding its breath, gathering its final strength.
This was his ritual now, and Wyzett would not leave the final act to chance. Instead, he raised his wand, and with deliberate calm, spoke the incantation for Fulgur:
"Ansuz!"
Light split the heavens, slicing through the inky clouds and crashing to earth with a deafening CRACK!
Even as the flash blinded him, Wyzett kept watching, catching a glimpse of a magical circuit—brief, elegant, far simpler than the tangled web of the ritual. It encapsulated all the ritual's complexity in a single, perfect pattern.
His mind raced. He flipped through his notebook, searching for an earlier diagram—one he and Luna had drawn together, combining the circuits of the Snidget and the Golden Snitch.
Now, he carefully sketched the circuit he'd just witnessed.
With this, the complex magical circuit was, in his eyes, complete.
He raised his wand, pointed it at his chest, and softly intoned:
"Ansuz!"
