Chapter 42: Alaya-Vijnana, The Otherworld, Logos
Wizette planned to give Harry a Parseltongue Whistle to deal with potential risks.
After all, he couldn't be certain—were those snakes truly attracted to Harry, or were they tracking him because of "Tom Riddle"?
Dumbledore was also in Professor McGonagall's office. They seemed to be discussing something.
Seeing Wizette enter, Dumbledore continued speaking to McGonagall. "Finally, I must say... you can deploy those guards as you see fit."
"Should we wait until later..." McGonagall glanced at Wizette, seeming hesitant.
"It's fine." Dumbledore shook his head gently. "I've mentioned these things to Wizette. Besides, given his current magical abilities, he can be involved in these matters."
"Alright!" McGonagall exhaled, her hands clenched tight. Her eyes seemed to reveal some anticipation. "Should I go check those guards again?"
"I'll have the relevant wizards come for maintenance. Originally wanted Filch to help supervise..." Dumbledore spoke slowly. "If you're willing to supervise, I'd appreciate it."
McGonagall waved her hand. "Let me handle it! Not a problem!"
"Everything that needed saying is said." Dumbledore stretched. "Wizette, are you here to... submit your thesis? Class seems to have ended early today?"
"Yes!" Wizette nodded. "I finished supplementing that previous paper. Also, I have some new ideas."
McGonagall took the thesis and sat in her chair, reading carefully.
"New ideas?" Dumbledore repeated with interest. "Sit down and tell us!"
Wizette pulled out his notebook and flipped to a page with a potion formula written on it.
Dumbledore looked at the formula and felt immediately familiar. "Bicorn horn powder... African tree snake skin fragments... Mandrake leaves... Moonstone powder... Dew..."
The Chocolate Frog cards mentioned it—he and Nicolas Flamel had achieved remarkable success in alchemy.
In his youth, he'd attended the International Alchemy Conference in Cairo and won the gold medal for pioneering contributions.
Materials used in alchemy actually overlapped with Potions. Naturally he could examine the materials' purposes through an alchemist's eyes.
This potion formula's composition was special. One part resembled Polyjuice Potion somewhat. Another part involved the potion formula needed when practicing Animagus transformation.
"Very interesting..." Dumbledore read for a long while, like chewing repeatedly.
After a moment, he stroked his beard. "This formula's design is quite ingenious... You seem to be planning to stably achieve a second Animagus form?"
"Yes, Headmaster Dumbledore!" Wizette nodded. "Actually, the formula isn't solely my work. I referenced another formula."
"A second Animagus form?" McGonagall looked up. "I recall the library shouldn't have related materials."
"That's Uagadou's secret!" Dumbledore laughed. "They guard that secret tightly!"
"Every wizard who learns Animagus there must make a magical contract and cannot reveal the secret."
Magic schools existed worldwide. Africa was no exception—Uagadou School of Magic.
This school's enrollment method was peculiar—not through owl-delivered letters, but through dream notifications.
When new students were suitable for enrollment, the current headmaster would become a dream messenger. Besides notifying students, they'd leave behind an inscribed stone.
"From what I understand, completing a second Animagus form—they don't have complete certainty either." McGonagall's tone revealed impatience. "May I see?"
As a Transfiguration professor, naturally she'd be interested in Transfiguration secrets.
Dumbledore nodded. "Of course... I'm also curious about the thesis content."
After a moment of silence, McGonagall exhaled deeply. "Using moonstone powder to replace the full moon—this idea is truly... brilliant!"
"No wonder... those African wizards wear strange jewelry. So that's its purpose? Every time I asked them, they'd brush me off with 'personal preference' excuses."
Wizette asked curiously, "Professor McGonagall, the strange jewelry you mentioned..."
"Generally teeth, horns, or feather jewelry." McGonagall recalled. "Like your notes describe—used to clarify animal characteristics."
She returned the notebook to Wizette. "You mentioned referencing another formula. Where did you get it? Found it in Sweden?"
"A... wondrous world?" Wizette frowned thoughtfully. "Like a boundless cosmos... Could see countless stardust twinkling... Very wondrous."
Dumbledore looked up, his tone carrying obvious surprise. "You... entered the Otherworld?"
"The Otherworld?" Wizette frowned slightly. "So that place has this name?"
"Many names... different wizards call it different things..." Dumbledore interlaced his fingers and recalled the past.
"Back then, as England's youth representative, I attended a Wizengamot discussion... During post-meeting exchanges, someone mentioned this..."
"They called it 'Alaya-Vijnana'... Later when I returned home, I consulted many materials and found it had other names."
"For example, ancient Greek wizards called it 'Logos.' Ancient British Isles called it 'the Otherworld.'"
"In the distant past, many wizards shared experiences of entering there. Now, wizards who can enter have become fewer."
"It can take cosmic form?" McGonagall adjusted her glasses. "Truly wondrous!"
"Yes! A very wondrous place..." Dumbledore smiled and nodded. "Since names vary, naturally what everyone sees varies too."
"May I ask?" Wizette spoke. "Headmaster Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall—what did you see?"
"Me?" Dumbledore showed a reminiscent expression. "An endless valley, golden everywhere..."
"Many crops there—barley, wheat, oats, all kinds... I also planted some crops there."
McGonagall recalled, "I saw an ocean. I fed one of the fish."
"I helped strengthen a cluster of stardust." Wizette shared his experience. "Headmaster Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall... did you learn anything from it?"
"Oh? Learn anything?" Dumbledore raised an eyebrow. "You can learn magic directly from the Otherworld?"
