The clear pill pushed Aleksander's cognitive processing into overdrive. His glowing green eyes darted across the screen as he layered municipal data over the satellite map.
"Filtering for industrial properties over ten thousand square feet," Aleksander muttered, his voice a rapid, emotionless hum. "Cross-referencing with recent property acquisitions, sudden spikes in localized power consumption, and unregistered commercial water usage. If they set up a sterile surgical suite or a holding pen, they need heavy electricity and running water."
The map on the screen blinked, filtering out hundreds of buildings until only three red dots remained in the North Hollywood sector.
Daniel leaned in, his eyes scanning the three remaining locations. He pointed a steady finger at the dot furthest to the east.
"That one," Daniel said with absolute certainty. "The old Kensler Packaging Plant on Chandler Boulevard. I know the owner—he used to buy cars from my dealership. The plant went bankrupt and completely shut down its operations just a week ago. The building is supposed to be totally empty, pending a bank seizure."
"Recently abandoned. Isolated. Immediate access to the interstate," Aleksander deduced, hitting the enter key. The satellite image zoomed in on a massive, windowless concrete structure surrounded by a chain-link fence. "Perfect cover for a black site."
"Then let's go," Tory said, her voice dropping into a deadly register. Sam nodded firmly right beside her.
Ten miles away, deep inside the cavernous, echoing shell of the Kensler Packaging Plant, the situation was rapidly deteriorating into a shouting match.
The cartel hadn't just secured the building; they had transformed the inner loading bay into a chillingly sterile environment. Heavy, thick translucent plastic sheets hung from the ceiling, partitioning the dusty warehouse into sealed surgical and holding zones. Massive portable floodlights illuminated the center of the room.
Pacing furiously under the harsh lights was Mateo, a heavily muscled enforcer sporting the crescent-moon and stars tattoo on his thick neck.
"It's a disaster!" Mateo barked, kicking a metal folding chair across the concrete floor. "We were supposed to bring in five targets! Five! The buyer for 404 is expecting premium inventory, and the surgeons for 731 are flying in tomorrow night. What the hell are we supposed to tell El Padre? That a couple of teenage girls in pajamas kicked our asses?"
Sitting calmly on a metal crate nearby, cleaning under his fingernails with a combat knife, was Hector. He looked up, his face pale with lingering anxiety. "We tell him the truth. The drop was compromised. We still got one high-value target. It's better than nothing."
"Nothing doesn't pay out," snarled Silas.
Silas stood near the center of the room, his posture rigid and commanding. He was the cell leader, dressed in a pristine black suit that looked entirely out of place in the grimy factory. The Luna Cartel tattoo on his wrist peeked out from under his cuff. He didn't just look like a trafficker; he carried himself like a fanatical priest.
"The quota is sacred," Silas said, his voice a cold, hypnotic purr. "The boss will not accept a single offering when the ritual demanded five. We need to go back out tonight. We take two more at a minimum, or our organs will be the ones paying the debt tomorrow."
In the center of the plastic-lined room, Yasmine Van Der Woodsen violently thrashed against her bindings.
She was tied securely to a heavy steel chair, thick zip-ties biting into her wrists and ankles. A thick strip of silver duct tape was plastered tightly over her mouth. Her blonde hair was disheveled, her expensive clothes wrinkled, and her blue eyes were wide with sheer, unadulterated terror. Listening to them talk about "offerings" and "surgeons" made her chest heave with panic. She let out a series of muffled, desperate screams, shaking the chair violently.
The noise grated on Mateo's already frayed nerves.
"Shut up!" Mateo roared, spinning around. He stormed toward Yasmine, raising a heavy, calloused hand to backhand her across the face. Yasmine squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the brutal impact.
Before Mateo's hand could connect, Silas moved with terrifying speed. He caught Mateo's wrist mid-swing, his grip like a steel vice.
"Touch her, and I will sever this hand from your arm," Silas whispered venomously, his dark eyes burning with fanatic intensity.
Mateo breathed heavily, glaring at his superior. "She won't stop screaming."
"Let her scream. The walls are soundproof," Silas replied coldly, violently shoving Mateo's arm down. "You know the doctrine of the Luna Cartel. We are not common street thugs. We are purveyors of perfection. We do not bruise the flesh. We do not scar the skin. We do not damage the commodity until the harvest begins. She remains immaculate until the scalpel touches her."
Silas turned his dark, hollow gaze down to the terrified heiress. He reached out, gently smoothing a lock of her blonde hair away from her tear-streaked face. Yasmine violently flinched away from his touch, sobbing into her gag.
"Do not weep, little lamb," Silas murmured, his voice echoing with sickening, cult-like reverence. "You have a grand purpose now."
