Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen

Maison Élégance Bridal House was the definition of quiet luxury.

Nestled in the heart of the city's prestigious fashion district, the five-storey bridal house catered to a clientele whose names rarely appeared on waiting lists because they owned them. Every appointment was private. Every gown was handcrafted to perfect elegance . Every fitting was an experience rather than a transaction.

Crystal chandeliers glowed softly overhead, reflecting against polished Italian marble floors. White orchids rested elegantly in oversized porcelain vases, while soft instrumental music drifted through the spacious showroom. The scent of fresh lilies lingered delicately in the air, blending with the faint aroma of expensive perfumes.

Rows upon rows of breathtaking wedding gowns stood beneath warm lighting, each displayed as though it belonged inside an art gallery rather than a boutique.

Today, the entire bridal suite had been reserved for one client.

Mabel Dawnson

She stood before the floor-length mirror, admiring herself in a fitted ivory mermaid gown embroidered with intricate French lace. Tiny hand-sewn pearls shimmered across the bodice before cascading into layers of silk tulle that flowed effortlessly behind her with every graceful movement.

The stylist smiled proudly.

"It looks like it was tailor made just for you."

"It practically was," Jane teased.

Jane had always been the loudest of the trio. Outspoken, effortlessly fashionable and never afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. She lounged comfortably on one of the cream velvet sofas, her crossed legs swinging impatiently as she admired her best friend.

Beside her sat Miriam.

Unlike Jane, Miriam carried herself with effortless elegance. She spoke less, observed more, and possessed an eye for details few people noticed. If Jane reacted with excitement, Miriam evaluated with precision.

She slowly circled Mabel once before nodding approvingly.

"The waist needs no adjustment, the train is perfect, and the neckline…" She smiled. "Daniel won't know where to look."

Jane burst into laughter.

"If he doesn't cry at the altar, cancel the wedding."

Even Mabel laughed.

She turned slowly before the mirror, fingertips brushing over the delicate embroidery decorating her waist.

"I like this one."

"You love this one," Jane corrected.

Mabel smiled without denying it.

One glance at her reflection told her everything she needed to know.

This was the dress.

The stylist clasped her hands together happily.

"I'll have your measurements confirmed once more before we begin the final alterations."

"Perfect." She stepped down from the fitting pedistoole. Mabel disappeared behind the fitting-room door moments later.

A few minutes passed before she emerged wearing the outfit she'd arrived in.

Gone was the breathtaking bridal gown.

In its place was effortless sophistication.

She wore a tailored cream blazer over a champagne silk camisole tucked neatly into high-waisted wide-leg trousers. Nude pointed heels added just enough height without sacrificing elegance, while a pair of diamond studs and a slim Cartier bracelet completed the look. Her long chestnut hair fell in loose waves over her shoulders, and oversized designer sunglasses rested casually atop her head.

She looked less like a bride.

More like a celebrity avoiding attention she secretly enjoyed.

Walking back toward the seating area, she settled gracefully beside Jane and Miriam while assistants carefully carried the wedding gown away for final adjustment.

The receptionist approached with a warm smile.

"We'll have everything packaged and delivered according to schedule, Miss Dawnson."

"Thank you."

As soon as the receptionist walked away, Jane's phone buzzed.

She glanced at the screen before letting out a dramatic gasp.

"Oh my God."

Miriam leaned closer.

"What now?"

Jane turned her phone toward them.

"Mabel…"

"You're literally everywhere."

She laughed.

"I mean everywhere. Entertainment blogs, Celebrity pages, Fashion magazines, Society columns.

Every platform carried photographs from the engagement shoot alongside headlines predicting the wedding of the year."

Mabel chuckled, crossing one leg elegantly over the other.

"Oh, come off it."

"I'm serious."

Jane continued scrolling.

"People are obsessed."

"'Bride of the Year.'"

"'Best engagement shoot this season.'"

"'This wedding is going to shut the internet down.'"

Miriam smiled "You've become everyone's favorite topic."

Mabel lifted a shoulder casually.

"Well… I'm the latest bride in town what did you expect?"

The three women laughed.

Jane continued reading comments aloud until her smile faltered slightly.

"…Some people are still talking about Victoria."

Silence lingered for barely a second.

Mabel merely smoothed an invisible crease from her blazer before rising gracefully to her feet "They always will." Her tone remained calm, almost indifferent.

Yet neither Jane nor Miriam failed to notice how quickly she changed the subject.

"So…"

She smiled at the stylist returning with paperwork.

As the paperwork was finalized, Mabel's phone vibrated inside her handbag.

She glanced at the screen.

Agent Ava.

A knowing smile spread across her lips.

"Excuse me."

She answered the call as she walked toward the tall windows overlooking the city.

"Ava."

"Mabel, please tell me you're sitting down."

She laughed softly."I've been sitting all morning."

"No, listen to me." Ava sounded almost breathless. "The engagement campaign is outperforming every projection we made."

Mabel's brows lifted. "Really?"

Ava nearly laughed. "You've gained over fifty thousand followers in less than twenty-four hours."

"Three luxury fashion houses want to dress you throughout the wedding season."

"Belle Étoile Cosmetics wants an exclusive bridal beauty campaign."

"Aurum Jewellery has requested a private meeting next week."

"And that's not even the exciting part."

Mabel's smile widened.

"I'm listening."

"I just got off a call with a European PR agency."

There was a brief pause.

"They're monitoring your engagement online, If this momentum continues…"

A pause

"…we may finally have enough international attention to pitch you for overseas campaigns."

Mabel's heartbeat quickened despite herself.

International.

A word she'd spent years chasing.

Ava continued excitedly "This wedding isn't just a wedding anymore, It's becoming your biggest career opportunity."

"So whatever you're doing…"

"Keep doing it." Ava responded

Mabel looked through the towering glass windows at the bustling city below.

The corners of her lips lifted slowly.

She had always dreamed of becoming more than the country's sweetheart.

Perhaps… This was finally the beginning.
