"Hmph! What a shitty excuse!" Roy Thompson didn't buy that explanation at all. He wasn't just anybody—something this big happened and she didn't tell him, how was he supposed to feel?
Lily Shaw briefly told Roy what happened. Seeing that he was still looking disgruntled, she helplessly reached out and pinched his arm. "Riley Thompson, I need your help with something."
"Hmph! I'm still pissed off!" Roy snorted again, but his ears were perked right up. That proud little look of his made Lily want to laugh despite herself.
"Riley, do me a favor and keep an eye on Mrs. King lately. The way she looked at me just now—so vicious—it gave me goosebumps." Lily smiled lightly and patted her brother's shoulder. She wasn't actually scared of Mrs. King, but she wanted Roy to have something to do, or this kid would start whining again that she didn't treat him like her real brother.
