Lily Shaw's gaze grew a few degrees warmer because of Yvonne Sutton's tender gesture and her spring-like smile. She turned her hand and held Yvonne's back, saying softly, "Thank you for staying with me."
Lily was genuinely grateful for Yvonne's companionship these past days. Lately she'd seen too many people who smiled to her face only to kick her when she was down once they turned around. In contrast, Yvonne's company and protection had filled her with warmth.
The Grant Family had fallen into crisis, and among all those prominent families who usually relied on them, hardly anyone had stood up to speak on their behalf. There were far too few who would bring charcoal in the snow. For Lily to say she didn't feel chilled to the core would have been impossible.
It was just that she'd tasted the coldness of the world since she was a child; those people's behavior could no longer shake her incomparably strong heart.
