Eighty steps, fifty steps, twenty steps...
As Sun Hang got within ten paces of the monument, the shadows clinging to it finally began to change.
These shadows, like a kind of liquid, suddenly started to boil. Swelling bubbles continually surged from within them, their hair and beards danced as if a blazing black fire was burning fiercely. Faintly, Sun Hang seemed to hear a crackling sound.
Yet, they didn't move. They remained connected to the monument, and it was unclear whether they couldn't detach from it, or simply wouldn't let go... However, as the shadows mutated, the surrounding graves emitted a whispering noise. The dirt sealing the graves began to crack, and fine sand and gravel rose upward, much like the secretions from the eerie bones moments ago, followed by large chunks of compacted soil.
