"What was Aria talking about?" The question popped up as soon as Alfa stepped out of his car.
"Not now, dad!"
"Alfa, I didn't raise you to keep secrets from me!"
"Secrets? Since we're talking secrets, why don't you explain what the heck you were doing at the gate of rogue pack territory? Why didn't you tell me you were going there?"
"You will not raise your voice in front of me," Kane's voice rose, and Alfa wasn't planning on calming down.
"I'm not a pup anymore, dad! You didn't tell me you were going there, and you embarrassed me in front of them!" He screamed.
"Please, everyone, calm down!" Genevieve said loudly. "You're fighting like little pups."
The frustration in her voice was high, but the father and son duo had other plans.
"Gene, this is between me and my son!" Kane blurted out.
"No. I'm leaving, and I do not want to talk about it," Alfa said, turning to leave.
"Alfa..." "Yes, dad! I am. I am the Alpha, and don't you forget that!"
There was an edge to his voice that made Kane stand still. It was the truth that when a new Alpha took the throne, the old alpha had very little power left. If Alfa wants to, he can have his father removed from the pack, and no one will be able to question him. He was tolerating him because of his mother.
Kane stood there frozen as Alfa strode away toward his room. He had said enough, and he didn't owe them any explanation.
His first priority was warning Michelle. If Arya had really grown suspicious of a mole in the territory, Michelle, Marius, and Yalandro were all in danger. She will leave no stone unturned in finding them. To top it all up, she knew Marius and Yalandro were scentless.
Yalandro picked up on the third ring. Before he even spoke, Alfa was talking, "Yalandro, are you two safe?" He asked.
The concern in his voice made the other wolf feel uneasy. Alfa had always known that they were the two best wolves and were so good at their job that he never had to call and cross-check on them, yet here they were!
"Yes, Alpha. Both of us are safe! Is there any problem?" Yalandro said, making Marius, who was lying down, get to his feet.
"Did either of you go into the pack territory?"
"No, Alpha. Your orders were very clear, stay out."
"What's going on?" Marius whispered, while Yalandro just showed him a hand, meaning wait, and kept talking on the phone.
"Yalandro, listen to me very carefully, get out of there, lay low, and wait for further instructions. Arya is suspicious of a mole in there, and she is going to dig every mole hole there is. I'm going to try sending Michelle a message." Alfa told him.
"We can try to... "
"No! Both of you get out and stay low. I need to make a phone call first."
"What's going on?" Marius asked, his face etched with confusion and fear.
"We need to get out, stay low, and wait for further instructions," came the reply.
"Is everything alright?"
"Our Luna suspects a mole, and we could be in danger. Even Michelle could be in danger."
"Shouldn't we warn her first?" Marius asked, looking towards the gate.
"Alpha directly ordered us to leave. He'll take care of her." Yalandro said dismissively.
Both of them got ready to leave, picking up their carry bags, which contained their clothes and toiletries, but then, they heard it. Voices and the scent of rogues.
They appeared to be clearing the area and cutting every bush that an animal might use to hide.
Most of the men were complaining loudly and dismissively swinging their knives to cut the tall grass.
"Hey MacKenzie, I think I saw something move there, came a voice, and both spys stopped on their track.
Just as two guards came towards them, a bunny jumped from the bushes near them and hopped for dear life.
The guard, who seemed to be MacKenzie, stopped and laughed at the other guard. "Hey Croven, at least there was something there," he said, laughing harder.
Marius and Yalandro moved cautiously through the bushes until they were clear enough to run. If they had been normal wolves, they'd have been beheaded by now.
Back home, Alfa went straight into his room and dialed Kimberly's number. He always had a spare phone throughout his house, for this exact reason. She didn't pick up. He tried again, and this time, she did pick up.
"What do you want?" Kimberly asked, surprised.
"What did you tell Arya?" Alfa asked, barely able to contain his rage.
"What? What do you mean?" Kimberly asked, confused.
"Did you tell her that Ronald told you about Arya and Rodriguez being siblings?"
"Yes, I did. So?
"Do you know that now Arya figured out that I have planted a mole in between them."
"So?"
Alfa was shocked at the lack of concern from the other side. He had just wanted Arya back, so he had planted Michelle there so she could bring back information. Now, because of Kimberly, they might be in danger.
"So? You know your information had planted a seed of doubt in Arya's head, and now my spy in there is in danger!" Alfa said angrily.
"And why should I actually care? You should thank the Goddess I didn't mention that you are desperate to call Valac."
For a second, Alfa froze. He hadn't thought of that. If Kimberly had told her about Alfa trying to summon Valac, she'd have understood what he was trying to do, and most probably tried to stop him.
"Kimberly, you don't understand what is at stake here! Day per day, Arya is turning evil, and if she successfully makes her third sacrifice, no ounce of good will remain in her!" Alfa told her, his voice half desperate, half pleading.
"I met her today! She already seems different. Not only in appearance, but her scent is slowly changing. Please, Kimberly, stop sharing what we tell you with her, and please tell Natalie to help us. Just think of it, why would I beg you for something! It is life or death," Alfa continued, and he felt Kimberly hold her breath.
"Okay. I'll talk to Nats and let you know what she says," she said after thinking.
Alfa finally let out a sigh of relief. Then he remembered he had to tell Ronald to replace his mobile in the office, along with everything else.
