Chapter 599 - Definitely Ate a Lot Both Up and Down...

"It really does feel like he comes chasing after Kaito — there's nothing 'chance' about these encounters at all."

Lumine very much agreed with what Miko had just said.

After all, after this many "chance run-ins," anyone would think something was off.

Kaito, however, didn't seem to mind in the slightest — he must have figured it out long ago.

"Doesn't matter — if someone's offering to treat us, of course we have to go eat. Otherwise we'd be missing out, right?" Looking at Miko and Lumine, who had already stood up, Kaito gave a smile, looking utterly unbothered — even going so far as to say that not going to Childe's treat would be a loss.

"Then let's see whether or not we miss out today." With that, Miko walked toward the outside.

Actually, she figured there was a very high chance they'd run into Childe this time, just like all the times before.

"I'll bet one Mora we don't miss out." Lumine, too, thought Childe would most likely show up.

As for the reason — well, all those previous examples were reason enough.

"Whether we miss out or not, the most important thing is eating. Let's get going." Having said this, Kaito also walked out.

Soon enough, the group had made it outside — and there, they spotted Childe.

"Looks like we won't be missing out after all." Watching Childe walk over toward them, Miko said this.

One thing she hadn't anticipated, though, was that Childe would appear so quickly.

Originally, she had thought they would at least have to walk around for a while first, but the moment they stepped out the door they saw him — and that genuinely caught her off guard.

"He's really quick this time."

Not expecting to see Childe the instant they walked out the door, Lumine couldn't help but be a little surprised.

"Friend Kaito, are you all heading out for a meal?" By this point Childe had walked right up to them.

"That's right — we were just about to go grab something to eat." Kaito nodded.

Actually, he had known Childe would definitely come looking for him; after all, Childe had already come by earlier in the day — only that, back then, Kaito had pretended he wasn't home.

"Perfect timing then — my treat. I just happen to have something I'd like to discuss with you, Friend Kaito."

Once again, Childe was rolling out that old "I'll pay" routine he'd already used countless times by now.

Although by now he was pretty much sure he wouldn't be able to cooperate with Miss Mobius anymore, there were still some things he felt he had to ask about.

"Childe, you really do love picking up the tab, don't you? Just before we stepped out, we were actually speculating about whether you'd be treating us again on this outing." Miko brought up what they had been talking about a moment ago, wanting to see how Childe would react.

"Haha — that's just how we Fatui are. We love making friends all over the place, especially friends like Kaito."

Aware roughly of what Miko might be thinking, Childe trotted out an excuse along these lines.

Even he himself was aware that constantly picking up the tab made things look strange, and that doing it too often risked exposing his real motives. Even though he frequently treated people for no particular reason just to muddy the waters, in the end he simply couldn't avoid making people suspect that his intentions weren't pure.

But his skin was thick enough — so long as the others were willing to come along, he was going to keep right on doing it.

"Then let's get moving quickly — I'm starving." Kaito didn't feel like saying much more; right now all he wanted was to eat.

Could he really be that hungry?

Looks like Kaito had had a great deal of his vitality drained out of him by Mobius today…

Then again — that figures…

Looking at the way that little brat was…

She must've eaten her fill from top to bottom…

If she keeps coming back like this later on…

Kaito's probably going to have a hard time keeping up.

Watching Kaito rubbing his stomach as if he were already very hungry, Miko immediately guessed the reason — and this couldn't help but make her worry about Mobius dropping by again in the future.

Because if that happened, neither she nor Lumine would be able to outcompete Mobius — the two of them simply couldn't out-eat her.

And more importantly — they couldn't beat Mobius in a fight.

Mei-onee-san…

You should be able to put that nasty little brat in her place, right?

At this moment, Miko thought of Mei, whom she hadn't seen for a good few days now.

She felt that Mei ought to be able to handle Mobius.

"Miko? Miko!" Just as Miko had drifted off into thought, Kaito's voice came from beside her, calling her name.

"What is it?"

Snapping back to herself, Miko reflexively asked what was up.

But Kaito didn't even need to answer — taking a look around and seeing that she was the only one still standing there, Miko had already grasped the situation.

"We're going to eat, obviously — what are you thinking about? Miko, what's going on? Somehow you seem a little strange today." Saying this, Kaito walked back over to Miko, who was still rooted in place.

"Honestly, I was just thinking about the whole Mobius situation."

After thinking it through quickly, Miko came out with that answer on the spot, and at the same time started walking toward Kaito.

No matter what, she'd hold off on bringing up the Mobius matter for now. Even though, technically, she was talking about Mobius right at this moment, that was a different thing altogether.

"Today, Mobius released that sealed Demon God at the bottom of the sea — fortunately, Friend Kaito got there quickly, otherwise things would have ended up very badly."

Huh?

Suddenly hearing Childe say this, Miko froze for a moment — she had not known about this.

What's going on?

Mobius released a sealed Demon God???

And just today, no less???

Not having expected that Mobius had done something like this today as well, Miko was stunned, and couldn't help but exchange a glance with Lumine.

"She was just trying to grab my attention — she knew I was nearby, so that's why she let it out." At this point, Kaito offered up this line.

"Then… you're all right?" Once she'd gotten the situation straight in her head, Miko quickly looked Kaito over.

"I'm fine. That Demon God was a total pushover — knocking it flat was a walk in the park."

Kaito gave a smile and made clear that the Demon God was just a weakling.

In any case, he didn't want Miko worrying over him.

Of course, that Demon God truly had been a weakling — and that didn't really change anything either.

"Haha — with Friend Kaito around, of course it's all fine, nobody got hurt." Truth be told, right now Childe very much wanted to ask exactly where Mobius was — he had never managed to track her down.

But he also knew Mobius likely had no interest in seeing him again. After all, he hadn't managed even such a simple task — the impression he'd left her was just too poor.

Sigh…

Though on the surface he was smiling, inside Childe was quietly letting out a sigh.

There was nothing for it — this cooperation mission had failed to come together.

He genuinely felt helpless about it. Such a simple task, and he just couldn't get it done — it was practically cursed.

"Come on, come on — we've got to get going and eat already. I'm starving to death."

Seeing the topic had been more or less covered, Kaito once again hurried everyone along to head off and eat — he really was famished.

"Let's go, let's go, let's go!" Childe, too, was glad to get to the meal quickly so that he could ask his questions.

Either way, the things he ought to know, he still wanted to find out — otherwise it would just be too frustrating to bear.

"Let's go, then." Miko, who had been mulling over whether to bring up the Mobius matter right then and there, decided to wait a little longer.
