Chapter 121 - Chapter 108: Entering Greed Island

Greed Island is a real game. The island itself is in the sea east of Yorknew City. The island is very big and divided into cities with different jobs.

In the cities there are NPC Nen beasts. In the wild, there are monsters made of Nen beasts, and a few normal little animals that were already there.

Game players have two magic abilities, "BOOK" and "GAIN."

"BOOK" is the magic to call up the game book. The game book is a book where you can store game cards. There are two sides to put cards, one side is the special card slots you fill to beat the game, and the other side is for free cards.

To beat the game, you need to put 100 special cards into the right slots in the "BOOK". When you beat the game, you can pick 3 special cards to take out of the game world to use as the biggest prize.

Besides the special cards, there are many other cards in the game, from big monster cards to small stones you find on the road.

In the game, when players get items, they change into cards automatically. If you want to use the card, just hold the card and say the other magic word: "GAIN." The item card will turn into an item, or it will turn into an item after a minute if you let go of it.

The above is a basic introduction to the game's abilities.

Of course, "BOOK" and "GAIN" are only for players. People like Saiki Kusuo who sneak in and are not players won't have items changing into cards. They can't use the cards they get, can't store them, and they will turn into items after a while.

They can't use the ability cards, and even basic money cards will quickly turn into real money. When they shop with NPCs, the NPCs won't take real money.

This is one problem they might face in the game.

Saiki Kusuo has been to many places on Greed Island, so he can freely pick where they land.

He picked Andoni Ba, a bounty city.

Saiki Kusuo teleported everyone to a wild forest near the bounty city. As soon as they landed, he felt he was being watched.

It was very weak, mostly just the game masters watching the island's happenings, but when Saiki Kusuo suddenly showed up, they got some attention.

Why are they being watched? The island is real, and other non-game creatures should be born and live there. If it's just about feeling life energy, you could just think of them as birds suddenly landing on the island.

What's the difference? Is it because... they showed up instantly?

——Should we wait and see?

Chrollo stared at Saiki Kusuo. The fact that he still wasn't relaxed meant things weren't as simple as he thought before coming.

3 seconds, 2 seconds...

Saiki Kusuo's focus-powered senses were very wide. Suddenly he sensed someone rushing here from dozens of miles away!

It was late at night, so it couldn't be a coincidence. Saiki Kusuo decided quickly. In the next moment, Saiki Kusuo grabbed the two of them, jumped away, and ran!

Even with Saiki Kusuo holding back, his running speed still made it feel like the strong wind would blow their heads off.

But Saiki Kusuo kindly put up a barrier, so the other two didn't feel anything, only saw the scenery rushing by.

Far sight!

Strong Nen users are also good at feeling things. Saiki Kusuo dared to lock onto the other person for only a moment before stopping his far sight. He learned that the person was still heading toward where they had teleported to.

The game master only thinks that place is a problem. So, nothing tracked their movement?

Saiki Kusuo thought: If there were any other animals not in the Greed Island game, they grew and bred slowly and naturally, but they showed up instantly and suddenly.

That must be the only difference.

The three-minute wait for teleporting was just over. Saiki Kusuo decided not to teleport for now, and they should even find other humans living here and blend in.

Saiki Kusuo hesitated and ran with the other two into the bounty city while using In.

It was dark, and the people in the bounty city were resting. Without other people noticing, Chrollo and Alluka didn't notice they were using In.

The three of them quietly stayed quiet until Saiki Kusuo finally stopped touching them.

[It's okay for now. We should try to find a hotel in the city.]

"We aren't players. Is that possible?" Chrollo used his cane to help himself walk, also using the cane to pick up Alluka's fallen suitcase.

[The advantage of players is only that they can use and store cards. We can get money cards from the NPCs by doing tasks, and just use the cards before they change back to real money.]

That's if there is a chance to earn money at night. [If not, just sitting in a restaurant should be fine, the NPCs won't kick us out.]

Even at night, some NPCs are still there. The three of them walked into a broken-down old hotel in a small lane. In the dim light, an old lady was sewing cloth shoes.

The old lady didn't even look up when the three of them came in.

Chrollo took a step forward with his cane and politely greeted her, "Hello, grandma. Sorry to bother you so late. Can we stay here tonight?"

The old lady slowly looked up, "Oh, poor children, look at how tired you are. You can stay. It only costs 300 money to stay in a double room."

"Thank you for your concern, but as you can see, we had an accident and are badly hurt! We don't have any money right now. Can we do some work here to earn money for a room?"

The old lady's blurry eyes looked at them, shook her head, and looked back down, "I don't have any work here to earn money. Please ask someone else."

They asked a few more questions, but the old lady didn't answer anything else, and only focused on the cloth shoes in her hands.

[Is it because she's too poor, so she doesn't care about anything except getting money?] Saiki Kusuo guessed.

He didn't think he would be guessing people's thoughts, no, this is an NPC. Because it's something programmed, there are no thoughts, and you can't know what it will answer.

Learning from the lesson, after leaving the broken-down hotel, they found a cleaner-looking hotel.

"Normally, the game should have ways to do tasks and get money to stay here," Chrollo thought.

Saiki Kusuo knew there were, but the NPCs wouldn't offer the chance unless you asked with the right words.

"From the questions and answers just now, being polite doesn't add any value. Saying we are hurt doesn't get any pity either."

It must be hard for you to greet people politely.

"So I guess the NPCs here are probably very stiff. We should try asking in different ways."

That is right.
