Leonardo returned to the hospital hours after leaving, this time for an important medical document he had forgotten during his previous visit.
He walked quickly through the cold white corridors, his eyes tirelessly searching for the office holding the file.
At that moment, he saw Rehana and her mother Salima wandering in a corner of the hall.
He paused for a moment; his gaze carefully traced her features—her long black hair falling over her shoulders, and her blue dress that highlighted the softness of her figure.
He approached without losing his composure and stood before them.
He spoke in a deep voice carrying a natural harshness:
"You're… Rehana, right?"
Rehana looked at him steadily, trying to hide her nervousness, and replied calmly:
"Yes, that's my name."
They exchanged brief glances, charged with much left unsaid.
Carefully, as if to quell a doubt inside him, Rehana asked in a quiet but clear voice:
"Where is Mateo's mother? Where is she now?"
Leonardo paused for a moment, his expression turning cold, then answered shortly and coldly:
"She died… due to childbirth complications."
Rehana was surprised by the answer, whispering softly:
"May God have mercy on her."
But she wanted to ask more, yet immediately noticed the signs of discomfort on his face.
Before she could continue, Maria entered the room with a gentle look and warm voice:
"Let's all calm down, things don't need tension."
She approached Leonardo and gently placed her hand on his arm, trying to soothe him.
Leonardo nodded, then looked at Rehana and said firmly:
"It's better for you to stay away from my affairs and my child's."
His words were a clear warning, yet his eyes held a hidden worry he couldn't hide.
Then he left the room, leaving behind a silence heavy with questions.
Rehana stood for a moment staring at the closed door, feeling the story was much deeper than he could say.
Maria smiled softly and said to her:
"Secrets don't kill, but the fear of facing them might."
Rehana knew this was the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
