The cool midnight breeze rattled the windowpanes of Xiaowen's bedroom. Inside, the quiet hum of the air conditioner was suddenly shattered when his heavy winter quilt was yanked clear off his body.
"Wake up!" Qingxue shouted, hovering above him and using her spectral energy to ruffle his hair. "I need to tell you something urgent!"
Xiaowen groaned, burying his face in his pillow as his hands blindly searched the mattress for warmth. "Gosh... You promised to protect me from other ghosts, but you're harassing me just like them. It's midnight."
"At least I am not breaking your stuff or leaving black bruises on your neck like they do," Qingxue countered, crossing her arms in mid-air. "Now sit up!"
Xiaowen let out a long, dramatic sigh, rubbing his bloodshot eyes as he forced himself into a sitting position against his headboard. "Okay, fine! Speak. What could possibly be so important at this hour?"
