After a vigorous half hour of lowballing the same merchant, Eve managed to snag a sandwich with just TWO golden coins instead of the normal three.
Eve began to wander the streets as she munched on her sandwich. She didn't really know if she should put her hood back on because no one had called her out yet, so she decided to bask in the rays of the sun for a little longer.
As she rounded the corner, she met a large group of people. Curiously, she decided to inspect the scene.
"I will show you exactly who has the right to Julie's heart!"
The people began to cheer louder.
"You are nothing more than a beast! One such as you deserves no heart of Julie!"
As Eve got closer, she put her hood back on to avoid the wandering gaze of the people. Two bloody teenagers were trading blows like it was the end of the world.
Eve turned towards one of the spectators. "Why are they fighting?"
The older woman turned towards her. "They want to win the heart of a girl. David and Goliath are really going all out"
Eve began to study the two boys. Haymakers upon haymakers, no guard, no nothing. Two men with pure hatred in their hearts for the other one, giving it their all, regardless of the people's opinion. Goliath knocked David down, yet David got up again. After another punch, David knocked Goliath, yet Goliath got back up again. The sight reminded Eve a lot of the Colosseum, but she decided the two guys were not in real danger.
Some people started yelling the name of Goliath. "Goliath! Goliath! Goliath!"
Some people started yelling the name of David. "David! David! David!"
Eve decided to just watch, since she wanted to see something while finishing her sandwich.
Swiftly, after Eve began to munch on her sandwich, David got knocked again, yet this time, he didn't get back up. Some people got a bit scared thinking he died. He wasn't dead; he was just too tired to get back up. Goliath stood victorious next to him, his fist raised high in the air. After an endless hour of haymakers, he finally won.
He turned back towards Julie, but she wasn't there. "Where is she?" He asked the crowd.
Some people began to laugh, and a guy shouted, "She left with another guy a while back!"
Goliath was left absolutely stunned. David was still lying on the floor, and he started laughing, too. "Ey Goli, let's go drink something"
Goliath turned towards him and helped him back up. "Alright, but you are paying since you lost"
When David got back up, the crowd started applauding, and one guy yelled, "Go get your beers, boys! You two deserve it!"
The older woman started whistling.
Eve felt weird seeing a crowd so pleased with the concept of an anticlimactic fight. A fight with a rather happy ending deserves such recognition? She left soon after.
As Eve kept walking, she grew a bit bored. "Hey...Nightfall"
Whispers started to form in Eve's mind. "What do you wish, girl?"
Eve thought for a good second, but she didn't wish for anything now. "I just wanted to see how you are doing."
Nightfall grew silent; it didn't expect to hear that. It never expected to hear that. "I am doing...acceptable, what are you trying to accomplish?"
"Nothing really, I was just curious."
"Don't stick your nose where your pot is not boiling."
Eve's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "What a weird thing to say, you know...you don't need to sound so mysterious all the time."
Nightfall's eye blinked. "As you wish."
Eve looked a bit happy to hear that, but she didn't really like it when Nightfall sounded so weird. "You mean that?"
"No."
Eve's mood plummeted, and she grew quite mad. "Oh, whatever, go back to sleep"
Its eye closed.
Eve kept wandering the streets for a good while, and so she sat down on a random bench. Across from her, two old people were talking and smoking from pipes.
"The earth is degenerating today. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer obey their parents, every man wants to write a book, and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching."
The other man turned towards him. "Brother Andrew! Blasphemy! I am the only one you know who writes."
The brother Andrew took a long drag from his pipe. "Exactly!"
The other man puffed in frustration after a while of silent smoking. Brother Andrew wanted to ask a question, but he had to take a long drag from his pipe first. He exhaled the smoke. "What day even is today? Since the God of Heaven decided to change a day. Shouldn't it be Monday?"
The other man puffed and looked back at him. "Nonsense, it's Tuesday"
Brother Andrew puffed and looked at him furiously. "You are a writer! And yet you don't know the days of the weekend?"
Eve began to cough loudly from all the smoke those two old people were making.
The other man puffed some more, and he pointed a finger at the other man. "YOU don't know the days of the week!"
Brother Andrew took a long drag from his pipe, and he exhaled. "Nonsense!"
The two men kept puffing and arguing without a worry in the world. Eve left because the smoke was getting to her since she was trying so hard not to burst into laughter.
As she kept walking, Eve got an apple. The vendor even gave it to her for free since this apple came from a knowledgeable tree. She didn't mind the taste, even though it tasted good and evil, somehow.
