BOOM!
As the two beams of light faded, the X-Scissor had already struck Alakazam.
Because X-Scissor is a Bug-type move, it has a type advantage against Psychic Pokémon, resulting in double damage and causing considerable harm.
"Kazam!"
Alakazam cried out in pain. Seeing this, Luana frowned and shouted loudly, "Alakazam, get out of there quickly!"
Alakazam looked up and saw that Scyther was already raising its scythes for a second time. Panicked and with no time to think, it quickly used Teleport to move to the other side of the field.
But just as it reappeared, before it could even catch its breath, it saw that Scyther had already changed direction and was once again charging menacingly toward it.
Left with no choice, it had to use Confusion again, trying to keep its enemy at a distance. But Scyther used the same tactic as before, using Quick Attack to dodge the Confusion and rapidly close in on it.
Back in the bug Pokémon forest, Scyther's tenacious and unyielding spirit had left a deep impression on Natsui. Now, it was Alakazam's turn to witness its power.
On the other side, seeing Alakazam in a tough spot, Luana was secretly annoyed but didn't want to just sit back and wait for defeat.
Damn it, it's so persistent. I can't shake it off…
"Alakazam, use Reflect quickly!"
Alakazam raised its hands, and a barrier made of psychic power formed in front of it.
At the same time, Scyther's X-Scissor was already swinging down on it again.
Although the name 'Reflect' has the word 'reflect' in it, it doesn't actually reflect the enemy's attacks. Instead, it creates a protective wall in front of the user, thereby weakening the enemy's physical attacks.
The next second, the X-Scissor passed through the Reflect barrier and struck its body.
Despite being weakened, the type advantage still caused Alakazam immense pain.
Luana sighed. A moment ago, she had been mocking someone else for being unable to command their Pokémon, but she never expected that after Natsui attacked his own Pokémon, the tide of battle would turn so drastically.
Does that Scyther have masochistic tendencies? Does it need to be beaten up to return to normal?
I really don't get it…
Sigh, but that has nothing to do with me. I need to find a way to turn this disadvantage around…
With this thought, she turned her head towards Marowak and shouted, "Marowak, go help out!"
Marowak, which was entangled with Charizard, heard the command and immediately abandoned Charizard to try and rescue Alakazam. But it had barely taken a few steps before Charizard flapped its wings, flew in front of it, and blocked its path.
Charizard gave Marowak a menacing grin, its meaning couldn't be clearer.
Trying to get past me, shorty? No way!
"Marowak, we can't delay any longer! Use Double-Edge quickly!"
Urged by Luana, Marowak suddenly accelerated, ramming its hard skull helmet into Charizard.
As a Ground-type Pokémon, Marowak was naturally skilled with Ground-type moves. However, against the Flying-type Charizard, Ground attacks were ineffective, so Luana could only use this Normal-type move to attack.
It could be said that both of her Pokémon were in extremely unfavorable situations.
Marowak charged with reckless abandon, but Charizard just flapped its wings lightly, flew into the air, and easily dodged.
However, Marowak didn't mind. It took the opportunity to continue moving forward to help Alakazam, but Charizard naturally wouldn't let it go, launching a surprise attack from above with Wing Attack.
Forced, Marowak had no choice but to dodge.
"Excellent! Keep it busy just like that!" Compared to Luana, Natsui was in a much more relaxed mood. Seeing Charizard firmly in control, he turned his head and shouted to Scyther, "Scyther, finish Alakazam quickly! Use Fury Cutter!"
Scyther swung its arms, delivering five or six slashes in a row. Although Alakazam dodged two of them, it was still hit by the Fury Cutter.
This time, Alakazam couldn't take any more. It fell backward and was completely unable to battle.
The referee raised his hand.
According to the rules, if even one Pokémon from a side faints, that side loses. With Alakazam being the first to fall, the result was clear to everyone.
"Alakazam is unable to battle! The winner is the challenger, Natsui!"
It's finally over…
As the dust settled, Natsui couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
He was happy to have won, but it had to be said that this battle was far more tiring than a typical gym battle.
Unlike the chaotic street battles with opponents of varying skill levels, managing two Pokémon simultaneously in a high-intensity Double Battle at a gym was indeed mentally taxing.
But thankfully, he had won.
Recalling his two Pokémon to his side, Natsui looked at the fainted Alakazam with some sympathy.
He could imagine that for the next few days, Alakazam would probably have the same nightmare every night.
A nightmare of a Scyther with a scar on its forehead, raising its gleaming scythes, chasing it relentlessly, and attacking it madly…
Losing the match and still having to be tormented. How pitiful…
Luana walked up to Natsui.
Now that the battle was over, she had reverted to her loud, boisterous self from when they first met.
"Congratulations on your victory!" She seemed completely unconcerned about her loss, clapping Natsui heavily on the shoulder with a laugh. "Wow, to beat me with a disobedient Scyther, you're really something!"
Natsui was already used to such pleasantries, and his response was almost automatic.
But man, her hand is strong. She almost made me cough up blood…
"Not at all, your Alakazam and Marowak were also raised very well. I just got lucky this time."
"So modest! Alright, this is your well-deserved prize. Please accept this Jade Star Badge."
As she spoke, Luana took a small badge from her pocket and placed it in Natsui's hand.
Sabrina also came closer. Natsui looked down and saw that this badge, like the other Orange League badges, was made from a shell. In terms of shape, the Jade Star Badge looked more like a gray conch shell with a six-pointed star drawn on it.
Natsui said his thanks and was about to turn and leave with Sabrina, but after just a few steps, Luana suddenly called out to him again.
"Please wait a moment!"
"Hmm?" Natsui looked back. "Is there something else?"
Luana hesitated for a moment, then asked, "After you finish the Orange League challenge, you'll be traveling to other regions, right?"
"That's right," Natsui nodded. "After I defeat the head trainer here, I plan to go to the Johto region to continue challenging its league."
"That's wonderful!" Luana smiled. "In that case, I was wondering if I could ask you for a favor."
"A favor?" Natsui exchanged a glance with Sabrina. "Let's hear it. If it's convenient, then of course, it's no problem."
