Yanran's expression changed, anxiety flashing in her eyes.
"We can't delay this any longer ....his poison is too dangerous."
Ye Chen smiled softly. "Yanran, let me try. Perhaps I can remove the poison."
"You?!"
Yanran blinked in surprise.
"Senior Brother, even Elder Gu He said he couldn't do it.
Are you sure? You're not even an alchemist .... how can you detoxify him?"
The brand of poison on her grandfather was something even the president of the Alchemist Association had admitted he could not solve.
But Ye Chen only smiled faintly.
"If you trust me, let me try. Once I succeed, you'll understand."
Yanran hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded.
"All right, Senior Brother. Come with me .... I'll take you to see Grandfather."
She grabbed his hand and led him toward the main hall.
Through the half-open doors ahead, Ye Chen could see the silhouettes of several people standing inside.
"Senior Brother, come in quickly."
Nalan Yanran gently pushed the door open. The low voices in the hall immediately fell silent.
Dozens of eyes turned toward the entrance. When they saw that it was Nalan Yanran, the young lady of the Nalan family, no one reacted much.
But when they noticed the young man following behind her .. Ye Chen ....a flicker of surprise appeared in their eyes.
Ye Chen wasn't even wearing the alchemist's badge. To these people, it was strange that Nalan Yanran would personally bring in someone who clearly wasn't an alchemist.
Ye Chen's gaze swept slowly across the hall.
Inside the spacious room sat more than ten alchemists dressed in identical robes.
Each of them wore a third-grade alchemist's badge proudly on their chest. Most were middle-aged, and two of them had hair as white as frost.
Ignoring the curious stares, Ye Chen let his eyes fall on the man seated in the main position.
This man wasn't wearing alchemist robes .... he sat with his legs firmly planted, exuding a natural aura of authority.
His sharp eyes, like those of a tiger, turned toward Ye Chen, momentarily stunned by his youthful appearance.
Nalan Su quickly stood up, cupped his hands politely, and then looked toward Yanran with curiosity.
"Yan'er, who is this young man?"
Nalan Su rarely stayed in the capital and had met Ye Chen only a handful of times. Though the boy looked familiar, he couldn't quite place him.
"Father, this is my Senior Brother."
At that moment, a faint blush colored Yanran's face as she made the introduction in a soft voice.
Bringing Ye Chen here felt like bringing her fiancé home to meet her parents .....her heart thumped nervously, and a hint of shyness flickered in her eyes.
"Your Senior Brother?"
Nalan Su was momentarily taken aback.
"Junior Ye Chen of the Mittel family greets Uncle Nalan."
Ye Chen stepped forward with a respectful salute. This was, after all, his future father-in-law ...he dared not be rude.
Recognition dawned on Nalan Su's face, and a smile spread across his lips.
"So it's Nephew Ye Chen. It's been years, and you've grown so tall already."
The other alchemists in the room exchanged startled glances.
Ye Chen was not just any youth ..... he was the number one genius of the Mittel family and the personal disciple of the Yunlan Sect's master.
The news that he had recently been appointed Young Sect Master had already spread throughout the imperial capital.
Now realizing that this was the Young Sect Master himself, the gathered alchemists couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and curiosity.
Was he here for the same reason they were .... to help detoxify the old patriarch?
"Nephew Ye Chen, please sit."
Nalan Su's tone became even more cordial. After a pause, he asked, "By the way, did Master Gu He come today?"
He still remembered that last time Yanran had said Ye Chen would invite the Pill King to treat the old patriarch's poison.
Ye Chen shook his head. "Uncle Nalan, even Elder Gu He cannot remove the branding poison."
"What? Even Master Gu He can't do anything?"
Nalan Su's face darkened.
The other alchemists in the hall also looked grim.
Gu He, the Pill King, was the only sixth-grade alchemist in the entire Jia Ma Empire.
If even he had failed, what chance did they .... mere third-grade alchemists .... have?
A heavy silence settled over the hall, as though an invisible weight had pressed down on every soul present.
Nalan Su's heart sank, but he quickly forced his expression to remain calm.
This was not the time to let despair take hold.
Straightening his back, he looked around at the assembled alchemists .... ten of the empire's finest, each one a master in their own right.
"I'm sure you all understand the plight my family faces," he said, voice low but steady.
