"I'm currently tailing a target carrying non-standard items. He might be a high-value individual. I've decided to follow him and see where he returns to. You guys take the captured one to the 12th Division, then wait for my next orders," Shihoin Yoruichi relayed through the Denreishinki.
"Understood! Please be careful, Vice-Captain!"
Once her mind was made up, Shihoin Yoruichi suppressed her Reiatsu and quietly trailed behind the Reishi Shell Academy Student.
The target wasn't strong—he couldn't sense Yoruichi at all once her Reiatsu was hidden.
And with her mastery of Shunpo, Yoruichi could keep up with him easily, even while limiting her Reiatsu output.
One hour later.
The Reishi Shell student still hadn't stopped; he continued moving at full speed.
'He's looping…' Yoruichi thought. The surroundings were starting to look familiar—this wasn't her first time passing through here.
She had observed that the target was highly cautious and had strong counter-surveillance awareness. Even though he hadn't detected Yoruichi, he still avoided heading directly to his destination.
But for someone trained in the Onmitsukidō, such tricks were laughably easy to read.
His caution only confirmed Yoruichi's belief that this was a key target.
'Don't rush. Sensei always says I'm too impatient… If I want to accomplish big things, I need to stay calm!' Yoruichi curbed her impulse to leap in and capture him immediately.
A short while later, the student finally changed direction, likely having concluded that no one was tailing him.
Yoruichi smiled and immediately followed.
He led her to a bustling market district.
'Damn, there are a lot of people here,' Yoruichi frowned. 'If a conflict breaks out here…'
The student slipped into the crowd.
Yoruichi followed quickly.
But the street was packed, and she didn't want to attract attention—her pace inevitably slowed.
At a junction, a merchant caravan turned in from a side street, blocking Yoruichi's line of sight.
'He's gone…' Yoruichi's heart skipped a beat. The caravan had forced her to fall behind.
She couldn't afford to lose sight of him.
"Make way!" Yoruichi shoved through the caravan.
But when she emerged from the alley on the other side, the student was nowhere to be seen.
Shunpo! In a flash, Yoruichi landed on a nearby rooftop, eyes scanning the street sharply—but still, she saw nothing.
"How could I have lost him?!"
It had only been a few seconds—and he was gone.
A sudden thought struck her—The caravan!
He hadn't left—he must've hidden inside!
She spun around and spotted the caravan still nearby, not far from the intersection.
Relieved, she followed again.
Soon, she saw the caravan enter a small courtyard.
From the roof, Yoruichi concealed her presence and watched as the Reishi Shell student crawled out of one of the cargo crates.
'So cautious. Even his way in was stealthy. This place must be important. If I weren't so clever, I'd have lost him.'
"Yasuda, weren't you reporting to the Spiritual Arts Academy? Why are you back?" asked the caravan leader.
"Our identities were exposed. I saw Nakano get caught, so I returned to lay low," the student replied.
"Nakano got caught?" The leader frowned. "You haven't even enrolled yet. The Shinigami shouldn't know who you are. How did this happen?"
"I'm not sure. Weren't the Shinigami investigating rampant faith activity in the Huaku District and nearby areas? Maybe that's how we were exposed."
"If even pre-enrollment agents are being found, those already in the Academy must be in serious danger." The leader's expression darkened. "Looks like the infiltration plan has failed."
"Yeah. These Shinigami are a pain. The layout in Huaku didn't work, and now even our infiltrators have been exposed," the student sighed.
"We'll need to rethink our strategy. Lord Miyamoto still needs manpower. Your spiritual body is stable—go assist him for now," said the caravan leader.
"Yes, sir!" the student nodded.
Once they entered the building, Yoruichi pulled out her Denreishinki and called for backup.
There were too many suspicious people involved—she couldn't handle this alone.
Soon, more than ten Onmitsukidō Shinigami arrived at her side.
"Vice-Captain, what's the situation?" Ōmaeda Kishinosuke leapt onto the rooftop.
"Our primary targets are the blond caravan leader and the guy in student robes. They need to be taken alive. The rest… do what you can," Yoruichi instructed.
From what she had seen, these two clearly held higher positions than the others.
"Move out!" Yoruichi signaled.
The Onmitsukidō Shinigami split up, positioning a few guards outside the compound to prevent escapes.
The rest split into two squads of three. One squad followed Yoruichi through the front; the other followed Ōmaeda Kishinosuke around the back.
A guard barely had time to react before Yoruichi appeared behind him in a blur of Shunpo and knocked him out.
She didn't enter through the front but instead paused outside, sensing the Reiatsu signatures within.
The occupants hadn't detected the intrusion and weren't suppressing their Reiatsu, allowing her to approach silently.
Yoruichi's first target was the Reishi Shell student. He was in one of the rooms.
She drew her tranquilizer crossbow and aimed through a gap in the window.
Thwip!
The student didn't even react before the dart hit him.
A moment later, he collapsed to the floor, knocked out by the tranquilizer.
