"Jon can you use this Hyperbolic Time Chamber here" Arya asked
"I can but don't think about training in there I won't have you used these years of your life for training" Jon said
"Yeah, you are still a kid and you don't need something like this" Robb added
"Hmph," Arya pouted and stared back on the screen.
[MEEREEN - GREAT PYRAMID]
"I'll stand guard outside your door tonight, Your Grace."
"We all guard tonight."
"Leave me."
[BARRISTAN, DAARIO, MISSANDEI, and GREY WORM leave the room. DAENERYS hears a noise coming from outside and goes out on her balcony to investigate.]
"Don't! It could be a trap" Rhaegar hissed.
Daenerys looked at her brother and then back at the vision.
[When she's out she hears a soft growl and turns to see DROGON, perched on the top of the pyramid and close to fully grown.]
"He's grown so much so fast" Daenerys said in awe. Suddenly she was no longer feeling guilty, was not feeling any of her insecurities. Her confidence was seeping back into her.
[He slowly climbs down to her balcony. DAENERYS extends her hand. DROGON sniffs it hesitantly, and then takes off into the night, soaring over Meereen.]
"You haven't lost him yet," Rhaegar said, loudly and kindly.
Daenerys smiled, her eyes glassy.
[PENTOS - COUNTRYSIDE - CARRIAGE]
"There's a bug."
"Yes, best be careful. You might accidentally consume some solid food."
"I don't think a bug can be considered 'food" Tyrion muttered a little green.
"It's a delicacy in Essos" Varys smirked.
"Not like that I'm certain...
"When I agreed to come with you, did I misrepresent my intentions? Besides, what is there for me to do inside this fucking box?"
"That looks like a very fancy and large fucking box" Jaime countered.
"Yes, well I might be too drunk to appreciate it...'
"You don't like it?"
"I want to take a walk."
"You can't. Cersei has offered a lordship to the man who brings her your head."
"She ought to offer her cunt. Best part of her for the best part of me. Well, I suppose a box is as good a place for me as anywhere."
"Are we really going to spend the entire road to Volantis talking about the futility of everything?"
"Wait, didn't you say you were taking me to Meereen?"
"I believe so."
"Why Volantis then?"
Varys shrugged.
"You need to pass through Volantis to reach Meereen."
That was over the roads built during the Valyrian era, the longer way if Varys was honest. The shorter route was to go straight, passing close by Qohor. His future self must have a reason then... but what?
"You're right. No point."
[TYRION realising their location.]
"The road to Volantis? You said we were going to Meereen. What's in Volantis?"
"The road to Meereen."
Varys hummed. It didn't sound like his future self had a reason...
"And what do you hope to find at the end of the road to Meereen?"
"I told you. A ruler."
"We've already got a ruler. Everywhere has already got a ruler. Every pile of shit on the side of every road has someone's banner hanging from it."
"You were quite good, you know. At ruling. During your brief tenure as Hand."
"I didn't rule. I was a servant."
"The second strongest man? You were a servant to one man, while the real was at your beck and call, or at least as many of the realm that bent the knee to Joffrey. You were a ruler, a decent one at that" Joanna said.
"I doubt that" Tyrion muttered. He was interim hand and had to tip-toe around to not step on someone's tail. Not that he had done a good job at the latter.
"Still, a man of talent."
"Managed to kill a lot of people."
"War would demand that of you," Jaime said kindly. "You saved people, focus on that more than on what you had to do to save them."
"Is that what you said to yourself when you put a sword through the Mad King's back?" Robb questioned, not unkindly. It was a simple question, born from curiosity.
Jaime understood that. Years of having heard the scorn in the words, he knew when he was being cursed. This was not one of those times.
"I tried, but hard to do when everyone rubs it in your face" Jaime answered with a smile, not a taunting one but a genuine one.
Robb nodded, looking away.
"Yes, but showed great promise in other areas as well."
"She wanted me to leave King's Landing. She begged me. I wouldn't go."
"Why?"
"Cause I liked it. Power. Even as a servant."
"What servant has power?" Robb muttered softly.
"I don't think he means servants as the ones that work for us" Jon reasoned. "If you think about it, those who serve us are our servants. And we serve the King, so we are his servants."
"That makes more sense" Robb nods.
"People follow leaders. And they will never follow us. They find us repulsive."
"I find us repulsive" Tyrion muttered.
"I find us repulsive."
Jaime snorted.
"And we find them repulsive, which is why we surround ourselves with large, comfortable boxes to keep them away. And yet, no matter what we do, people like you and me are never really satisfied inside the box. Not for long."
"You're right. Let's go for a walk."
"No."
"How many dwarves are there in the world? Is Cersei going to kill them all?"
[KING'S LANDING - QYBURN'S ROOM]
[A dwarf head is placed on her desk.]
"Well, that answers that question" Tyrion snorted
[KING'S LANDING - RED KEEP]
[CERSEI and QYBURN enter the room, taking the open seats on the small council.]
"Uncle Kevan's on the council" Jaime smiled.
"Our sister has some brain then. Him as a member of the council after the years he's served father is a good decision" Tyrion nods.
[CERSEI sits at the head of the table.]
"Of course she takes that seat" Tyrion snorted.
"You're the Hand of the King?"
"No, Uncle. Clearly, it would not be appropriate for a woman to assume that role.''
"Must have killed her saying those words" Renly said dryly.
"I'm merely advising my son until he comes of age and chooses a Hand for himself."
"Your Grace, I would be willing to serve provisionally as the King's Hand until he becomes old enough-"
"You're a good man, Lord Tyrell,"
"Must be killing her to say those words and not gag or glare" Margaery smirked.
"But I don't imagine you'll have the time. In addition to being Master of Ships, the king has appointed you Master of Coin."
"Has anyone ever handled two positions at the same time?" Daenerys questioned.
"There have been men who held multiple offices, but not at the same time" Jon Arryn answered.
"There was a brief moment where Ser Tyland Lannister held the office of Master of Coin and Master of Ships" Jon added after Jon Arryn had spoken. "It was during the dance. Aegon II had asked Dalton Greyjoy to sit on the council as Master of Ships and bring the Iron Islands to the Greens' side. But he chose to not heed the call and later attacked Lannisport."
"Our ancestor was called to sit on the council?" Theon whispered to Yara, who shrugged. Neither knew the history that well, even if they knew Dalton Greyjoy and his role in the Dance.
Around the same time, Jaime commented to a snorting Tyrion how the Iron Islands were stupid even back then, thinking that the outcome was the same as when Victarion Greyjoy attacked Lannisport. Tyrion reminded him that Dalton Greyjoy was a bigger problem for the Lannisters then than Victarion Greyjoy had been for them.
Daenerys though nodded her thanks to both men.
"He called your experience and wisdom in financial matters unparalleled."
"I don't think I said that" Tommen whispered.
"Mother probably said you did so it made you look better" Myrcella whispered back.
"But why? It's a lie. We shouldn't lie."
Their whole life was a lie, but Myrcella would not remind her baby brother of that cruelty...
"It's something Kings have to do sometimes" she smiled.
Tommen did not look like he was happy with that. Why must a king lie at all?
"He said he would be honoured to have you represent the crown's interests in the same."
"The honour is all mine, Your Grace."
"Your Grace, in the past on several occasions, a Grand Maester has served as the King's Hand."
"Septons have, Grand Maesters, possibly not" Jon Arryn frowned. He looked at Brynden who shrugged. So neither of them had an idea.
"Cersei isn't stupid enough to name him the Hand" Tyrion snorted. One thing he and his sister shared was their mutual dislike of Pyccelle, even if Cersei used him unlike he did.
