"Ah, poor young master, that's just tragic!"
Han Feng had seen what just happened and couldn't help feeling a little sympathy for Childe. No matter when, spoilers were the worst. They stole away the anticipation. Especially for detective manga — the thrill comes from following the protagonist's deductions. If someone just bluntly names the killer, what's left to read? All the tension, all the mystery, gone. No wonder Childe now looked like he'd lost faith in life.
Han Feng's mind drifted back to his previous life, to watching Detective Conan with comment streams enabled — as soon as a new episode started, the barrage of spoilers would pour in. If you could imagine it, someone had already posted it; sometimes the culprit was circled in red at the very opening. Utterly insane. Because of that, Han Feng never turns on comment overlays anymore — he's been scarred by spoilers.
"Heh, didn't expect La Signora to be into that!" Han Feng shook his head with a smile. If she weren't an Executioner, with that level of spoiling she might've been punched into next week.
At that moment two more customers walked in: Jean and Klee.
"Good morning, Boss Han!" Jean called.
"Good morning, Brother Han Feng!" Klee chirped.
"Morning, both of you—take whatever manga you like," Han Feng said with a smile.
Jean returned the smile, left a pouch of Mora, and walked to the shelf. After browsing she picked the manga That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Klee, watching Jean go, padded up to Han Feng and tugged at his sleeve.
"Brother Han Feng, when are you taking me to blow up fish?" she asked, clutching his leg with starry eyes. Ever since she heard about the bomb comics yesterday she'd been buzzing with excitement and barely slept. She'd been eager to bug Jean into taking her out this morning.
Han Feng tousled Klee's head. "Did somebody find your reward yet?"
"Nope! I hid it really well!" Klee sneaked a look at Jean, saw she wasn't paying attention, and sighed with relief.
"All right — go pick a manga first. I'll take you later." Han Feng said, smiling.
"Yay!" Klee ran off to the shelf and grabbed Tom & Jerry, then joined Jean.
"Noelle, are you going to Liyue soon?" Noelle watched Klee leave and asked Han Feng curiously. She remembered he'd promised to take Klee to Liyue to blow up fish.
"Yeah. When the fish shows up, we'll go," Han Feng answered with a faint smile. With the Rite of Descension approaching, Osial's appearance might not be far off.
"The fish shows up?" Noelle mentally pictured any fish politely poking its head out to be bombed and frowned. Seeing Han Feng's mysteriously calm face, she didn't press. If he wanted to tell her, he'd tell her.
More customers streamed in and Noelle hurried to greet them. The shop grew busier; Han Feng checked the system panel.
[Host: Han Feng]
[Manga: One Piece — East Blue, Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon, Chuunibyou, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cooking Master Boy, The Overly Cautious Hero, Detective Conan, Journey to the West, Tom & Jerry, Doraemon, Mr. Vampire…]
[Task 1: Serve 10 customers to draw one manga. Progress: 16/10 — 1 draw available]
[Task 2: Accumulate 250 customers to receive an exclusive reward. Progress: 14/250]
"Heh, a draw is available, but Task 2 upgraded again?" Han Feng noticed the change. The first time the special reward came at 30 customers, the second time at 100, and now it had jumped to 250.
Still, he wasn't worried — with current traffic, three or four days, maybe two or three at best, and he'd hit it. But the immediate thing was the draw. Every pull made his chest tingle with expectation.
"System, draw a manga." Han Feng commanded.
[Drawing…]
[Draw Result — The Avengers (Part 1)]
[The Avengers (Part 1): A sudden force emerges within the Tesseract and the villain Loki brings about a catastrophe, stealing the cube and destroying the research site — catching S.H.I.E.L.D. off-guard.
Director Nick Fury realizes he must form the strongest alliance of heroes to save the planet. Iron Man (Tony Stark), Thor Odinson, Captain America (Steve Rogers), Hulk (Bruce Banner), Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), and Hawkeye (Clint Barton) assemble as the Avengers and, combining their strengths, defeat Loki's invading forces to protect Earth.]
"Movie-style manga again." Han Feng wasn't too surprised — that genre had shown up before. What was unexpected was that it was The Avengers. In his previous life this had been a huge, thrilling blockbuster — dozens of heroes, spectacular battles, blood-pumping conflict. This manga would probably give Teyvat a very different kind of spectacle.
Han Feng smiled faintly and placed the new manga on the shelf.
