Winter in the Mauryan Empire had arrived. The people were buying woollen clothes to keep them warm from the cold. The prince , Rudura asked one of the servants to buy the clothes that would keep Rudura warm. However, the servant couldn't find the clothes that Rudura requested , not because they weren't available, but because the clothes that Rudura requested were very specific and hard to make. He requested clothes with these measurements -
For Shirts :
Size - 32 centimetres ; Color - Blue or Black ; Feature - It should be light weight and perfect for exercises and running.
For Pants :
Size - 28 centimetres ; Color - Blue or Black ; Feature - It should be light weight and perfect for exercises and running.
Rudura then asked his father , Chandragupta Maurya to help him. Chandragupta Maurya asked the Royal Weaver to make clothes according to measurements written by Rudura on a sheet of paper. The Royal Weaver was the most skilled weaver in the entire Empire and because of his skill , he was the made the Royal Weaver. He asked a servant to bring the following items for his craft -
Blue and Black threads
He then went to the Royal Clothes Making area which was specially build by Chandragupta Maurya for The Royal Weaver to conduct his work.
He sat down on the Royal Loom and the servant Brought the items that the Royal Weaver asked for.
He began his work by interlacing the two sets of yarns , the warp and the weft , on the loom.
He tied the warp threads , which are the vertical thread to the loom (the blue threads) and the weft threads (The black threads) were going to woven into the warp.
The loom itself kept the warp threads taut and it separated out threads as The Royal Weaver weaved and because of that , The Royal Weaver weaved the blue warp threads.
But before The Royal Weaver started weaving , The Royal Weaver prepared the loom with the warp threads.
Once the warp threads were measured , the warp was tied and wounded onto the back beam of the loom.
The Royal Weaver wounded it evenly so that the back beam of the loom prevents the warps threads from tangling and maintain an even tension along the width of the project.
The Royal Weaver then brought the warp thread towards the middle of the loom where The Royal Weaver had four harnesses.
On each of those harnesses were heddles.
The heddles had an eye through which each individual thread of the warp was threaded.
The four harnesses had four sets of warp threads attached to them so that the the Royal Weaver could separate the warp threads while the Royal Weaver weaved according to the pattern.
On the loom , harnesses one and three were attached to treadle or pedal one so that when the Royal Weaver pressed on that treadle , harnesses one and three lifted , separating those treads from the rest of the warp.
Once the heddles was threaded , the Royal Weaver then threaded the warp through the reed of the beater bar.
The reed evenly spaced the warp across the width of the project and was also used by the The Royal Weaver to beat down the weft threads to make the clothes more uniform.
Then the weaver tied the warp to the front beam of the loom. The front beam of the Loom.
The front beam is also called the cloth since the the cloth is rolled onto the beam as the weaving progresses.
Then , the loom was prepared so that the Royal Weaver can weave.
To weave , The Royal Weaver separated outs sets of thread by pressing the treadles of the loom.
By pressing treadle , one of the loom harnesses one and three were lifted along with the warp that was thread through the heddles. Those lifted threads created an opening called a shed thread the Royal Weaver shooted his shuttle with his weft threads.
In that single pass , the Royal Weaver had gone over under over under all of his warp threads.
He then Brought the all of his warp together Brought the beater bar down to move that weft thread closer to the cloth the Royal Weaver was weaving.
To continue his weave , he then pressed treadle two , lifting up harnesses two and four and their corresponding threads. The Royal Weaver then shooted his shuttle through the open shed again , trailing behind that black weft thread and then the Royal Weaver brought warp together and brought that beater bar down so he had a more uniform cloth.
He repeated this process several times and all the clothes were prepared.
He showed all the clothes to his majesty and the prince , Rudura.
All the clothes were made accurately , according to specifications.
Rudura finally got his winter clothes.
Finally.......... I got my winter clothes
