MHGA Chapter 197: Kazuma's Ridiculous Luck! Monster Traces Discovered!

Let's rewind a bit.

While Kairo Retsu was off drinking with Jackie, and David and the others had gone to see Vik—Kazuma… wasn't so lucky.

At this very moment, Kazuma was being stuffed into the trunk of a car by a bunch of thugs, destination unknown.

"Can't believe we snagged a dumbass who hasn't even installed a single piece of chrome," the guy in the front passenger seat scoffed while driving. "Ran a scan just now—no implants! Guy looks nearly grown too, how the hell does someone his age still walk around all natural?!"

"No joke, this one was a tough nut," the other thug jeered. "Took two full doses of sedative to knock him out! Tough as a wild boar."

"That dose'll keep him out for a whole day." The driver grinned. "All we gotta do is drop him off at the filming site. Then it's payday, baby."

"Damn rich pervs," the passenger spat. "Hiring us to grab some organic dude just to record a braindance… sick bastards."

"You don't get it. That's the thrill—they want ones without implants for those extreme BDs." The driver chuckled. "All chromed-up subjects are easy. But guys like this? Practically a rarity!"

What those thugs didn't realize… was that the supposedly unconscious Kazuma had already shaken off the drugs—drugs strong enough to KO a wild boar for a full day—and was wide awake, listening to everything from inside the trunk.

"Damn it! I got kidnapped?!" Kazuma seethed.

He'd come to Night City to see the legendary sexbots, and now he was being hauled off to star in a black-market braindance?!

His hands and feet were bound in solid iron chains… These thugs really went full overkill! Using iron chains just to tie someone up?!

Listening to their chatter, Kazuma could tell this wasn't going to be some harmless BD shoot. Having seen David's story—and played the game—Kazuma knew exactly what "black BDs" entailed.

And it was not good.

Kazuma was practically in tears.

He was supposed to be ridiculously lucky with games of chance, bets, and all that! So why did his daily life always end up being so catastrophically cursed?!

Sure, the drug's effects had worn off, but with his limbs chained up, there wasn't much he could do. He couldn't break free right away.

Should he call for help?

Kazuma imagined what would happen if he went crawling back to the Gathering for help—or worse, begged Kairo for rescue…

He filtered out the more righteous members in his mind and imagined the reaction from the others.

And instantly went red with rage.

Those bastards would definitely mock him for half a year! Even after that, they'd keep bringing it up every chance they got!

"No way! I refuse to become the butt of the Hunters' jokes! I'll escape using my own wits!"

Kazuma squirmed toward the trunk's edge, peering through a crack to see where they were.

Looked like they'd been driven to some remote area full of shipping containers… and what seemed to be a small power station in the distance?

Kazuma didn't know why—but the moment he saw that facility, he felt something was off.

That unmistakable sense of impending doom… like when you're about to fight one of the Demon King's lieutenants.

As that thought passed, he suddenly heard one of the thugs up front shout:

"Holy sh*t! What the hell is THAT?!"

The very next moment, Kazuma felt the car lurch and tilt sharply—must've been the driver jerking the wheel. Then came a violent crash.

"What the hell kind of monster—?!"

Gunfire erupted outside the trunk. Kazuma heard the panicked screams of the thugs.

He also heard a weird metallic clanging—like bullets ricocheting off something hard.

Then came the sound of hooves—sharp and crisp. A few heavy impacts later, the shouting stopped altogether.

"!"

Kazuma's eyes widened in fear. He held his breath, straining to see what had happened.

Through the crack in the trunk, he caught only a flash of silver streaking past his vision—racing toward the power plant.

"Wait, what about me?!"

Kazuma struggled frantically, trying to escape the trunk. He began casting magic on the chains—fire and ice, alternating, trying to weaken the metal.

After a few grueling minutes, he finally managed to wriggle out of the trunk, though his legs were still chained.

"That just now…"

Kazuma looked up toward the power station—just in time to see it explode.

A massive shipping container was blasted into the air by the shockwave—hurtling straight toward him.

Instinctively, Kazuma tried to run.

But the chains around his legs tripped him.

"So what the hell is my luck even GOOD FOR?!"

Kazuma screamed as the falling container slammed down on top of him.

Cue the usual—rainbow sparkle Cat Cart.

Kazuma was dumped at the Gathering Hall gates by a cheerful multicolored Felyne Palico, face down and completely exhausted.

"Huh?"

Naofumi Iwatani had just come out of the canteen, heading to the storage shed for supplies, when he saw Kazuma getting carted back.

"Weren't you with the Guildmaster in Night City? How'd you get back so fast?"

"Was it fun in Night City?" Naofumi asked kindly.

Kazuma just lay there on the ground, slowly curling into a fetal position. He buried his face in his knees and sobbed.

"Not fun at all!!! A shipping container fell from the sky and Cat Carted me! Waaaaahhh…"

"…A container?" Naofumi raised an eyebrow.

Perplexed, he thought for a moment, then decided to contact Kairo Retsu—who was still drinking with Jackie in Night City.

"What? Kazuma got Cat Carted?!" Kairo stared blankly. "How the hell do you get Carted in Night City? We haven't even started doing anything yet!"

"…Wait a sec. Why is the exploration progress bar moving up on my HUD all of a sudden?"

"Holy crap! No way! That's Kazuma for you—doing the impossible again! Found monster traces before we even started scouting! His luck really is through the roof!"
