MHGA Chapter 204 – A Hunter's Family Problems

Tanjiro and the others had actually come to help defuse the situation for David.

Upon learning that David was being scolded by his mother, the group had gathered to discuss what they could do.

In the end, it was decided that, since they were all David's age, they would be the best ones to help reassure Gloria—so she wouldn't start thinking the Hunters were some shady organization…

"..."

Gloria sat in silence, staring at David and the others in front of her.

She still had doubts about what David had told her—but there were simply too many unexplainable things.

After all, the fact that all her cyberware had vanished… was undeniable.

But if what David said was true—was he really going to abandon school to become one of these so-called Hunters?

Then what would his future hold?

David had outstanding grades at Arasaka Academy. If he simply graduated and joined Arasaka, he would undoubtedly achieve great success.

But now, David had not only dropped out without permission, he had also secretly installed dangerous military-grade cyberware—and was now talking about becoming a Hunter…

"Ms. Gloria, we don't really have the authority to speak on David's behalf," Tanjiro said politely. "But the Guildmaster was genuinely concerned about your health, so he wanted us to do our best to ease your worries."

"Ms. Gloria, David only borrowed the power of the Hunters because he wanted to save you," Tanjiro continued earnestly. "He truly treasures you—that's why he wanted to protect you."

"I…"

Gloria sat down heavily. "I understand…"

"The Scavenger hospital was real, wasn't it…? If they managed to get me out of there and fully treat me, David must have paid a heavy price for it…"

"And as his mother, I couldn't do anything for him… What kind of mother does that make me…"

"Mom!" David looked up, emotional. "As long as you're safe and healthy, I'll do anything—just…"

"Hmm? But we… didn't ask David to do anything?" Tanjiro interjected innocently. "The one who saved you was the Guildmaster! He's always looking out for all of us!"

"Then…"

Gloria turned to David. "Then what do you need to do?"

"Mom, I have something I want to do—" David said hastily. But just then—

A person suddenly appeared in the room. Gloria gasped and leaned back in shock.

She had clearly seen that man materialize out of thin air.

And he was dressed in clothes completely out of place in Night City—like some medieval royalty, wearing a fur-lined cloak and even… a crown?!

"David, I'll take it from here!"

Laios stepped forward in full regal attire.

"L-Laios?!" David blinked in disbelief.

He hadn't expected Laios from the Gathering Hub to show up in such extravagant formalwear…

Could it be that Laios was actually some kind of VIP all along?!

David, still unfamiliar with the other Hunters' backstories, began to question everything.

"Ms. Gloria," Laios began. "I understand how you feel. As a parent, it's only natural to worry about your child's future…"

He spoke from the heart.

Though Laios had a strained relationship with his own family, he knew all too well how much they had fretted over his future for a long time.

"So if you're worried about David's future—please don't be!" Laios declared. "Even outside this world, David can live just fine!"

"And the reason is simple… because I'm a king!" Laios added stiffly, clearly still not used to the title.

"Huh? A king?!" David was stunned.

His impression of Laios had been that of a quiet adult who liked flipping through monster encyclopedias at the Gathering Hub.

And now he was suddenly a king?!

"So I'd like to invite you to my kingdom for a banquet," Laios said. "If you see it for yourself, you'll no longer have to worry about David."

"...Huh?" Gloria stared in a daze.

Meanwhile, Kairo Retsu and Joseph were still cruising the streets of Night City.

Then Kairo Retsu got word: Laios had invited David and Gloria—along with Tanjiro and the others—to the Golden Country in the world of Delicious in Dungeon for a royal banquet.

"Laios really is good at… solving problems from a different angle," Kairo Retsu muttered, scratching his head. "Now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense. Gloria's concern is David's future…"

"If David's future is secure and filled with possibilities, then Gloria wouldn't have anything left to object to!" Kairo Retsu looked genuinely impressed. "As expected of Laios… when did he even set this up?"

"Feels more like something Kabru would've helped Laios think through," Joseph muttered, unimpressed. "I never thought we'd be helping people deal with family issues between missions."

"Well, what choice do we have? David's family situation is pretty rough—you can't just leave that hanging." Kairo Retsu slung an arm around Joseph's shoulders. "So, how about I help you work things out with your family? Don't be shy! Let your warm-hearted Guildmaster lend you a listening ear!"

"Ugh! That's disgusting!" Joseph shivered. "Why do you sound like Caesar all of a sudden…? I can handle my own family problems just fine, thank you!"

"I don't have that many family problems, okay? My grandma absolutely adores me!" Joseph said proudly. "But…"

He hesitated for a moment. "I guess I do need to sort things out with my mom."

"You'll get there."

Kairo Retsu said it plainly. "We've got plenty of time…"

"But for now, let's get back to what really matters—hunting."

Kairo Retsu's expression turned serious. "Well, Joseph?"

"Did you find any good spots for the hunt?"

Hearing this, Joseph gave a sly grin.

"Of course! After scouting all over Night City, we've found plenty of spots perfect for fighting Kirin!"

"Good."

Kairo Retsu grinned wide.

"As Hunters, we can't go into battle without using the terrain to our advantage!"

"After all—we're Monster Hunters!"
