MHGA Chapter 303: Mutual Destruction… Feels GREAT!!

"But still…"

Kairo Retsu quickly reined in the hunter's natural thrill before a hunt and focused on the quest in front of him.

"I originally thought just dealing with Dalamadur and the effects of the Frenzy Virus was already serious enough… but now they're saying there are Frenzied monsters invading?"

"That already sounds bad!!" Kazuma tensed up, gripping his bow. "Why are there more monsters invading?! I thought we only had to deal with otherworld monsters?! And this world's all reinforced concrete—there's nothing edible for monsters here! Unless… they're eating people?!"

"Who knows? Maybe the Frenzied monsters lost their minds and stumbled in by accident," Kairo shrugged. "But you reminded me… if what showed up is some ferocious carnivore, we could be looking at serious casualties."

"Let's see where the map says the monster is… and which one it actually is…" Kairo muttered while opening the quest details. But the moment he saw the image on the screen—a massive beak filling the frame—he froze.

It was unmistakable.

A Bird Wyvern so iconic it was like a Slime from a tutorial village…

The Great Jaggi.

"NO FREAKING WAY!! YANKUKU-SENSEI!!!"[¹]

—————————

Night had fallen over the Re:CREATORS world—prime time for disturbances.

A shrill, erratic bird cry rang out as a Frenzied Great Jaggi—wreathed in black virus miasma and with eerie violet-red eyes—burst out from the forest into a countryside field.

Its already aggressive temperament, twisted further by the Frenzy Virus, made it slam its enormous frame straight into a small farming truck parked in the field.

Boom!

The force sent the vehicle flipping through the air, crashing into a nearby tree with a massive crack.

If not for the lack of people in the area at that hour, the Jaggi's appearance would've already caused chaos.

Even so, two bystanders spotted the monster from afar. One, trembling in fear, hid behind a warehouse, sneaking out their phone to film the beast with just the camera lens peeking out.

The other had already dialed emergency services.

"We've got a MONSTER here!!"

While the pair hid, the one filming suddenly noticed several dark figures approaching from the sky.

Zooming in, the camera captured a full-armored man with a Great Sword the size of a door strapped to his back—alongside three others with distinct appearances, all clinging to Wingdrakes and descending toward the Frenzied Great Jaggi.

One wore a beige outfit and had the face of an elderly man (Joseph in disguise), another was a green-cloaked youth with a bow, and the last was a short-haired, heavily armored man.

"What… what are they?!"

The two witnesses stared, utterly shocked, as the impossible scene unfolded.

Meanwhile, Kairo's eyes gleamed with excitement as he eyed the rampaging Jaggi from the sky.

"Perfect! A wide-open area! No terrain obstacles! No cursed ledges or elevation traps!" He shouted upon landing. "This one's mine! Today, your Guildmaster will shine! I'll show you what it means to be a true veteran hunter with over a decade of experience!!"

"No one's fighting you for it!" Kazuma called back.

Laios, however, had stars in his eyes—one hand holding a notebook, the other operating his camera excitedly.

"Jaggi cartilage, skin, and gizzards are all considered delicacies," he muttered. "Roasted, they're exquisite… But can Frenzied meat still be eaten? I could risk a bite just to find out…"

Kairo, wholly focused on the hunt, had no idea what Laios was plotting. His mind was on harvesting the materials from this Frenzied beast to forge new gear.

"LookInMyEyes!" Kairo called as he charged toward the Great Jaggi.

"Squaaaawk—!" The infected beast screeched, eyes burning with virus-induced rage as it barreled straight toward him.

Its beak lunged mid-charge, aiming for Kairo's chest in a deadly peck.

"Let me test your strength first."

Thanks to Granny Felyne's lovingly prepared Felyne Meals, Kairo had been strengthening his body in the Gathering Hub for weeks. He was curious—just how powerful was a Frenzied Great Jaggi?

He brought his Great Sword up horizontally and braced for impact.

Clang! Sparks flew as the Jaggi's beak slammed into the broad blade. Kairo's hands went numb and he staggered back two steps from the sheer force of it.

"Yeah… Frenzied Jaggi packs a punch." Kairo quickly widened the distance. When the monster spun around for a tail swipe, he ducked and flared his Great Sword backward, charging up a Heavy Slash.

As the Jaggi turned back around to face him, Kairo's charged slash came crashing down—

WHAM! His sword struck its skull dead-on, colliding with hardened scales and jagged bone with a burst of sparks. The Jaggi reeled from the impact, dazed—but now furious.

"TMD!! You think I'll show up like some stumbling scrub again, like I did fighting Kokushibo?!"

Kairo bellowed with confidence.

"Thanks to Himmel's training, I've fully integrated my hunting techniques with a stronger physique! I'm now a perfected hunter!"

"Don't think some Yankuku-sensei knockoff will bring me down!"

He dodged nimbly as the enraged Jaggi spat a ball of fire at him.

It didn't understand his taunts.

It just slammed its massive beak into the ground and charged with all its weight toward him.

Its movement was predictable—its patterns too simple. The Frenzy Virus had stripped it of whatever limited battle cunning it once had.

Kairo kept his Great Sword poised, charging another Heavy Slash, eyes locked on the beast. A grin tugged at his lips.

"Try me… I dare you!"

Just as the Jaggi reached him, Kairo swung upward with full force—

CLAAAAANG!!

The sound echoed through the field like clashing steel. The massive monster, several meters in length… was sent flying backwards by the single, fully charged strike.

"Mutual destruction… FEELS GREAT!!"
