MHGA Chapter 399: Madoka's Worry
Tanjiro and Laios simultaneously attacked both of Shagaru Magala's wing claws, leaving deep wounds.
The pain from both wing claws being damaged caused Shagaru Magala to violently erupt with strength.
The sudden burst of brute force stretched the Restraint Bolt chains taut, creating a piercing, grating sound before snapping completely under immense strain.
Once the chains broke, their accumulated force erupted, sending thick and tough restraint cables whipping out like lashes, striking distant solid concrete pillars with such force that internal steel reinforcements were exposed.
"ROOOAAR—!"
Under the sheer might of the Elder Dragon, multiple Restraint Bolts snapped apart simultaneously.
The first restraints to break were those binding Shagaru Magala's strongest limbs—its powerful wing claws.
With both wings freed, Shagaru Magala immediately swept outward with immense force, forcing Tanjiro back and brutally smashing Laios, who had no time to retreat, deep into the ground.
With its freed claws, the dragon swiftly grasped and tore away the remaining bolts still anchored to its body, violently wrenching several hunting devices out of position.
After dealing with all the restraints, Shagaru Magala attempted to fly again, intending to crush the small bipeds that injured it. However, its wing faltered mid-flap, nearly causing it to crash back down.
The damage inflicted by Tanjiro, Laios, and Rakuro had significantly compromised its wings and back, diminishing its flying capabilities.
Though Shagaru Magala could still fly, it could no longer soar to heights unreachable by the hunters.
The hunters paid a considerable price for this…
A dazzling, rainbow-hued Felyne skillfully maneuvered a cart through the hunting grounds, swiftly retrieving Laios from his crater, who had been smashed into a barely recognizable state under his armor, transforming him from a well-armored canned lunch back to normal and whisking him away.
Shagaru Magala's crushing blow hadn't destroyed Laios's gear, but the hunter himself beneath the armor had been severely pulverized.
"I'll be back soon!" Laios yelled to the other hunters, gripping the cart's edge before disappearing from view.
Kairo Retsu leaped decisively from the Dragonship, wielding his Great Sword, joining the hunters as they charged toward the grounded Shagaru Magala.
The skies may belong to these mighty flying beasts, but the ground was undeniably the hunters' domain.
"Surround it! Surround it!"
Kairo Retsu roared, eyes blazing with excitement. "Don't let it fly back up! Drag it down!"
Answering Kairo Retsu was not the voice of another hunter, but the resounding blast from Naofumi Iwatani's Heavy Bowgun.
The powerful crossbow's roar was clear and resonant. Explosive bursts of energy engulfed Shagaru Magala, penetrating its scales with specialized ammunition, dealing real damage.
Unafraid, the hunters pressed forward relentlessly, weapons raised, challenging the Elder Dragon's might.
"ROAR—!" Shagaru Magala bellowed furiously, engaging the hunters directly.
Homura Akemi watched intently from the Dragonship's deck.
It felt like a scene ripped straight from another world.
A ferocious dragon versus fearless, almost monstrous hunters.
Just the sound of each strike clearly conveyed how monstrously powerful both sides were.
Watching this scene unfold, Homura considered her own potential role in this battle.
She glanced into her shield's internal space, where she had stored the conventional human weaponry she gathered through repeated time loops.
Could she seriously attack that dragon with ordinary firepower?
Her expression turned complicated.
Never mind piercing the dragon's scales—which seemed tougher than Walpurgisnacht—Homura wasn't even certain her bullets could meaningfully harm the hunters engaging this dragon head-on.
"But… there must be something I can do," Homura murmured, looking around before raising her shield and vanishing instantly.
Meanwhile, Laios, transported by the rainbow-colored Felyne, was swiftly carried toward the safety point prepared by other Felynes.
Soon after, Laios was unceremoniously dropped onto the roof of Mitakihara City's gymnasium.
Other Felynes had already set up tents on the rooftop, along with cooking equipment—ready to serve fresh, delicious Felyne Meals at any moment.
"So the base really was built here, huh?" Laios scratched his head.
He didn't quite know what a "gymnasium" was—being unfamiliar with modern society—but he knew the place beneath him was filled with residents of Mitakihara City taking refuge.
Madoka and her friends were sheltering in this very gymnasium.
Wherever Felynes were, was undoubtedly the safest place; hence, the hunters chose to establish their hunting base here.
"With Felynes around, it should be safe here," Laios mused, eyes unconsciously drifting toward the Felyne-operated stove nearby.
He had fainted once, losing his earlier meal buff due to being carted away, so…
In this situation, he prioritized food!
Laios promptly made the decision dictated by his instincts.
Inside the gymnasium, Madoka gazed anxiously in the hunters' direction.
Just moments ago, Madoka vaguely heard dragon roars echoing amidst the storm.
She was fully aware the hunters had begun battling Shagaru Magala, while the Guildmaster and others continued protecting them from Kyubey's schemes.
Mami Tomoe, Sayaka, Kyoko… their original tragic fates had been averted. They were safely sheltered here.
Perhaps all they needed now was to wait out the crisis to fully avoid that terrible destiny.
Yet, inexplicably, Madoka remained worried.
It felt as though…
Everything had gone too smoothly, enough to evoke suspicion that an unseen danger still lurked hidden in the shadows.
