Chapter 7 - Return

Lying on the body of the elite boar, Vaalk felt strangely comfortable for some reason. "Must be the random trial I just went through, there's no other way to explain why this guy's body feels much better than any bed I've lain on."

'But forget that! I need to test my gluttony skill!' He hopped off the body of the boar, stretched his hand out, calling out gluttony skill in his head, and the huge boar slowly turned into a stream of energy that flowed into his body through his hand.

|Elite boar absorbed - Evolution points +30|

"My stats must have increased by a lot, considering how much stronger and lighter I'm feeling."

"But I most definitely cannot start recklessly absorbing anything and everything, considering how long this one took and how it literally ate everything up."

It took Vaalk roughly 10 minutes to completely absorb the boar. Gluttony absorbed everything, down to the blood that pooled at the bottom of the pit and its bones, leaving nothing left of the fierce beast but a clean, empty spike pit, if you choose to ignore the spikes that look like they've seen better days.

"I'm also healed..." He could feel a dull throb where the boar had grazed him with its tusk during the chase. The wound was barely a scar now.

"But I don't know if it's a result of leveling up or an effect of using Gluttony. It could be both."

He considered spending the Attribute points he gained from leveling up a few times, but his rational mind kept him in check. He was in the forest, although it was the outskirts, it's never a bad thing to be too safe.

He chose to retrace his steps to find the spot where he killed the smaller boar. There were some small-sized predators already circling the boar's carcass. Chasing them away, he used his newfound strength to lift the boar, slowly trudging towards the village.

"Damn, this thing is super heavy! How much does this big guy even weigh? I wouldn't have been able to lift one of its legs if I hadn't absorbed the other big guy."

He felt multiple pairs of eyes watching him from the bushes as he made his way back to the village, but he didn't pay them any mind. 'Probably those little guys I chased away earlier.'

His analysis skill came in handy on his way back; it allowed him to recognize every plant, tree, and path he took. Luckily, he didn't have to spend as much time trying to make it back to the village with the weight of the boar he was carrying.

Vaalk finally stumbled his way back to the village, with the boar strapped to his back using some vines he found along the way. He looked like a child carrying a grown adult. It was a comical sight.

Even the young goblins that would usually hide whenever they saw him couldn't help but pause, with some of them already in the motion of running. The older goblins were shocked by the sight of the boar, and then held their laughter when they caught sight of Vaalk.

"He's probably going to need a new back after this." A small goblin with a missing tooth whispered to himself before turning around and bolting when he and Vaalk made eye contact.

Vaalk gave the back of the fleeing goblin a confusing look.

'Why is he running away? I merely wanted to agree with him. My back really is killing me. I hope that old man has some medicine for this. If he doesn't, I'll freeload off of him for the next couple of days.'

The shaman shivered, 'Is someone plotting me evil?'

Vaalk looked worse for wear, at least worse than he did during the fight with the elite boar; he felt like giving up and lying down right there in the middle of the road and sleeping. But he kept moving until he made his way back to the shaman's house.

Bang Bang Bang. He repeatedly hit the shaman's door with his foot.

"Open up, old man, I come bearing gifts!"

Like clockwork, as soon as the door opened, a ladle flew straight through the air, hitting Vaalk in between his eyebrows. The shaman's aim was impeccable.
