Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 - False Systems (3)

"Strength" (STR), of course, means power. It's about the body's capacity for physical impact, not just fists and muscles; holding a door, pulling a bowstring, carrying a boulder. If Liam tries to lift something and fails, then he can see that his STR is not enough. This will teach him his limits, but also motivate to strengthen himself.

"Dexterity" (DEX) is control. It's about how well the body responds to the brain's commands: accuracy, reaction speed, and finger coordination. In many RPGs, DEX is used to measure arrow accuracy, the ability to steal, or avoid traps; in my system, DEX will affect everything sensory and motor-related. I decided not to use Agility because the functions are too similar, and in many systems DEX already includes speed as well as agility; if I included both I would have to make a very subtle distinction, and that could make Liam confused. Neat simplicity is more convincing than overlapping complexity.

"Intelligence" (INT) means intelligence, though in RPG terminology it doesn't always mean it's about who's smart. INT is usually used for magical abilities, spellcasting, or understanding knowledge. Again... Since I don't know if there is anything related to supernatural elements in this world, I focused INT on the capacity to think logically, plan, understand symbols, or recall information. If Liam managed to solve a puzzle or find a pattern, the system would suggest that his INT played a role.

I deliberately did not include Wisdom (WIS) or Charisma (CHA), although in many RPGs they are commonly used alongside Intelligence. Wisdom relates to brainwashing resistance; in other words, a player with a high WIS does not necessarily mean a wise individual. Charisma, on the other hand, is often a measure of how likable an NPC is; something that affects game mechanics. But those two terms are too abstract for me to defend right now; too easily misunderstood, too easily disproven. One of the biggest difficulties of failing to explain Charisma is the appearance of synchronization with the real world; if Liam has high Charisma but is rejected by many people, the system will be immediately suspicious and can be abandoned immediately. The reason I chose Intelligence instead of wisdom was simply because it was easy to misinterpret; Intelligence could refer to intelligence, cleverness, or even magic mastery.

"Constitution" (CON) is the body's endurance; this will be the foundation of HP, SP, and even resistance to pain. In practice CON measures the body's ability to deal with long-term stress; whether it be due to injury, disease, poison, or extreme fatigue. If Liam could outlast his friends in the rain, or not faint easily when injured; then the system would record it as an effect of high CON, he would feel that his endurance could be understood and even improved.

The entire window stood in a vertical rectangular shape, floating in front of Liam's sight without touching the ground. The background color was set to appear a soft light blue, something familiar with a soothing feel. I divided the window structure into three sub-groups; each with a title located at the top center of each sub-panel, large and prominent. It cannot be touched by the outside world, cannot be seen by anyone except Liam himself; even if an adult is standing behind it, all they see is space.

The first title: "AVATAR PROFILE". Underneath appears a three-dimensional hologram of Liam; allowing him to rotate the avatar so that he can see from any point. Right now, he was wearing clothes made of cheap linen, with a brownish cream shirt and whitish cream pants; a stark contrast and mismatch. With a gesture or speech, the items on his body could be removed which gave the preview feature to see his body without the "items".

Below the hologram, eight sets of information data are neatly arranged in three horizontal rows: "Name", "Race", "Class", "Level", "Status", "Age", "Height", and "Weight". Each term is enclosed in a transparent light blue box (slightly lighter than the overall panel background), with bold white text and a smooth white border around it.

The title "RESOURCE STATISTICS" appears floating in the same style: large, bold, centered. Four main data points appeared below it: "Hit Points" (HP), "Mana Points" (MP), "Stamina Points" (SP), and "Experience Points" (XP). Each was still enclosed in a shining light blue [longer than before] box, with bold white text and a thin white border as before; at the end was a statistical restriction.

"ATTRIBUTE STATISTICS", below which are the four main attributes: "Strength" (STR), "Dexterity" (DEX), "Intelligence" (INT), and "Constitution" (CON); the border and text are still the same as before. Underneath is the same border, except that there are "+" and "-" symbols that are useful for increasing stats or canceling enhancement points. Then the last is "Attribute Points" (AP), the value obtained from various aspects used to increase attributes.
