Chapter 7 - man who turned to black soul

Jack's question sends Lea into deep thought, like it was something very heavy for her to answer.

After some time, Lea starts speaking.

"He was my brother. My hero. The one everybody loved. He took care of me when I first landed here."

Jack stays quiet.

"We all loved him very much and trusted him, but in the end, that trust was broken."

Jack looks into Lea's eyes. They were hiding pain, but her voice made it clear that she was heartbroken.

"Jack," Lea continues, "can I ask you something?"

Jack nods.

"How did you die?" Jack asks.

Lea's face shows no expression.

"I was dead the day I was born. My mother had me when she was young, and my father wasn't ready to take care of me or my mother. She was afraid, so she threw me in a trash bin."

Jack feels bad for asking about Lea's past life.

"I'm sorry," he says.

"No, don't feel bad," Lea replies. "It is what it is."

Lea then tells Jack that she was picked up by an old woman who took care of her. After the woman's death, her son started treating Lea like a slave. She was sexually harassed, often beaten, and forced to work in the house. The man wouldn't let her leave. Sometimes he wouldn't give her food, and sometimes he made her sleep in the cold without proper clothes.

One day, she had enough and killed the man while he was sleeping. She ran away, but running away only brought more sorrow. She had nothing. She searched for jobs, but because of her clothes, no one was willing to give her a chance. She slept on park benches and ate food from trash that had been thrown away.

One day, a man approached Lea and asked if she would work for him. She accepted without hesitation. That decision turned into hell. She sold her body to survive. She was mistreated again. If she refused orders, she was beaten badly. The man gave her drugs, and as time passed, she became dependent on them. She couldn't leave. She begged for drugs, and men took advantage of her. She was broken and had no choice.

One day, after a man refused to give her money after work, she was beaten and choked until she couldn't breathe. The last thing she saw was a white soul, and she felt relieved that she wouldn't have to return to that hell. That was when she landed in Nowhere Land.

Jack asks her how she feels about Nowhere Land.

Lea tells him she is happy here. For the first time in her life, she felt like she had found a home.

Lea goes quiet for a moment.

"You asked me who Sam was," she says softly. "This is what happened."

"The first day I landed here, I was lucky enough that Silas found me and took me in. I was still young. I lived with Silas, and that's when I met Sam. He was another young man Silas had taken care of.

"Sam, Silas, and I lived together like a family. Sam was like an older brother to me. We used to have fun. We were inseparable. We were happy."

Lea pauses.

"But heaven couldn't see me happy, and everything changed."

"Sam suddenly changed. He started avoiding me. He wouldn't talk to me and began hating Silas. He told me to stay far away from him. The man who once cared about me started hating both me and Silas.

"I don't know the reason why, but he was always angry. I tried to talk to him many times. I even said sorry, but he wouldn't listen. He fought with Silas often.

"One night, as I was going to bed, I heard people quarreling. I got out of bed and saw Sam and Silas fighting. I was too far to hear clearly, but people said Sam was accusing Silas of not being a good person.

"He had told me before not to trust Silas, saying Silas was a bad person. I thought he was joking or angry over something stupid."

"The fight became serious. I tried to stop them, but Sam slapped me and told me not to interfere. When I looked into Sam's eyes, I knew he wasn't the same. There was something dark in him. He turned into a black soul.

"We tried to help him and bring him back, but he was too far gone. He had reached the point of no return."

"The fight went out of control. The people of the town tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen. He kept saying Silas would kill us all and that he was only using us. Sam said Silas was a black soul.

"When people didn't believe him, Sam asked Silas to show his eye—the one he kept covered. Silas removed the cover in front of everyone. He was blind in one eye.

"Seeing that, Sam couldn't believe it. He attacked Silas again."

Lea's voice trembles.

"I had enough. I shot him."

"The man I loved was standing in front of me, but if I didn't shoot him, someone else would. I couldn't let him die by someone else's hand, so I pulled the trigger. I missed a vital point, and he escaped."

"The people were terrified. They said we had to kill him, or he would return and haunt us. I tried to tell them he wouldn't hurt anyone, but Silas was determined. He said he couldn't risk the lives of everyone for one person."

"So we decided to lure him back into town."

"After two or three weeks of searching, we couldn't find him. I was relieved. I thought maybe he was alive."

"But fate had other plans."

"He returned to the town while we were away searching for him. When we came back that night, ten people were dead."

"The town was terrified. We had to stop him, or more people would die."

"We split into two groups. Half searched for him, and half stayed in town, waiting."

"I still remember the day Sam returned."

"We chased him, but he was strong and fast. Then suddenly, he stood in front of Silas, trying to talk."

"Bang. Bang."

"I shot both of his legs. He couldn't move."

"Silas, being kind-hearted, told me to give Sam a proper goodbye."

"We set him on fire."

"And that was how we said goodbye."
