The next day, Amon woke up early in the morning. After taking a refreshing bath, he stepped out and got dressed in his academy uniform.
The high-collared white shirt fit snugly against his lean yet well-toned body. He slipped into his black trousers and fastened them with a belt, neatly tucking in his shirt. Around his collar, he knotted a navy-blue tie. Finally, he put on his single-breasted black blazer. The navy-blue tie and matching trim on his blazer's shoulders signified his status as a first-year student.
Looking at himself in the mirror, Amon combed his messy black hair into a more presentable style. He grinned.
"I look so handsome," he said to himself, still admiring his reflection.
He glanced at the clock. It read 6:40 AM. The opening ceremony was scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM, with classes following at 8:00 AM.
Grabbing his pager, he slipped it into his trouser pocket and headed out. As he made his way toward the auditorium, he followed the route displayed on the academy map on his pager.
The campus was buzzing with activity. Students were walking in every direction. Some were alone, some in pairs, and others in small groups.
'I need to make friends soon. I can't survive three years here all by myself,' Amon thought.
He stopped in front of a grand set of doors—the entrance to the auditorium. Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside.
The auditorium was massive, with over a thousand seats arranged before a large stage. He spotted the section reserved for first-year students and found a seat near the front.
Slowly, more students began to arrive. The colors of their ties and blazer trims identified the second- and third-year students, with red and violet respectively.
Once the auditorium was full, a figure appeared on stage without warning.
She had long, snow-white hair, clearly marking her age. Yet her face held an ageless beauty and calm maturity. Her silver eyes exuded wisdom and power. Dressed in a dark gray robe adorned with black patterns, she stood like a figure out of myth—beautiful, mysterious, and intimidating.
She was none other than Isabel Dawnheart, Headmistress of Arcadia Academy—a name known throughout all the continents.
The sheer aura she radiated silenced the crowd. Even without speaking, her presence alone made it clear that she was far from ordinary.
"Welcome to all first-years, and welcome back to our returning second- and third-year students who have successfully completed their previous years," she began, her voice powerful and commanding.
"This place is not for the weak-willed. Being weak is not wrong, but choosing to remain weak is."
She looked across the auditorium, her gaze sweeping over each student.
"You are all here because you have potential. You stand at the threshold of something greater than yourselves. You are all here in pursuit of power. But remember, power alone has no meaning. Purpose gives it meaning. Power without control is nothing more than failure."
Amon felt the weight of every word. Normally, he wasn't someone who paid much attention to speeches, but her words gripped him. He couldn't ignore them.
"Some of you will rise. Some of you will fall. That is the nature of the world. And that is what we nurture here."
With that, the opening ceremony continued. Several professors came forward to explain the rules and regulations of the academy, most of which were already available on their pagers.
After the formalities, the students slowly began leaving the auditorium.
Amon made his way toward Class A, located on the upper floor of the right-wing tower of the main academy building.
The classroom was spacious, designed to comfortably accommodate 100 students. Amon chose a seat near the back of the middle row and waited quietly as more students arrived.
At exactly 8:00 AM, all the seats were filled.
Seraphina Luminous and Eliana Sylvaris were seated at the front. The girls' uniforms were similar to the boys', with the only difference being their black, flowing skirts that reached their knees.
Eliana, the elf, was strikingly beautiful. Her platinum-blonde hair shimmered in the morning light, and her deep sea-blue eyes added to her ethereal charm. Her pointed ears peeked out through her hair.
'An actual elf... She's breathtaking,' Amon thought, unable to take his eyes off her.
Beside her sat a girl with short black hair that ended in red streaks. Her crimson eyes were intense, and two wolf ears poked out from her head. A long, furry tail was barely visible beneath her skirt.
Amon tilted his head.
'Wait... Doesn't that mean that if she gets excited, her tail might start wagging? Won't that lift her skirt?'
Amon mentally slapped himself for thinking such a ridiculous thing.
The girl was Aisha Darkfang, the beastwoman ranked fourth in the year. She was taller than Amon and had a strong, curvaceous figure. She sat near the window with a bored expression.
Amon's gaze shifted and landed on Marcus, who was sitting a few seats away from him. Marcus had an air of confidence, as if the classroom belonged to him.
Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted. A sharp ripple tore through the air.
A portal opened right in the middle of the classroom, and from it emerged a monstrous spider the size of two elephants.
The room was instantly filled with dread.
Amon's eyes widened in horror as the grotesque creature roared, sending waves of fear through the students. Most jumped from their seats, panic-stricken.
Except for four.
Seraphina, Eliana, Marcus, and Aisha stood their ground.
Seraphina immediately conjured a glowing orb of light—an advanced spell—and launched it at the creature. Simultaneously, Marcus hurled a fireball toward it.
The spider remained unfazed. A translucent mana shield flared up, blocking both attacks with ease.
It roared again, this time even louder, forcing Seraphina to take a step back.
Aisha, her expression now brimming with excitement, summoned a greatsword from her spatial ring and dashed toward the monster.
Eliana took out her bow and aimed at the spider.
And with that, the classroom was thrown into chaos.
The day had only just begun.
