Chapter 99 - CHAPTER 99

The arrival of Yoruichi Shihōin completely reshaped Kurotsuki Renya's training regimen.

Under Lisa Yadōmaru's supervision, a new and meticulously structured schedule was drafted to balance every aspect of his spiritual and physical growth.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning, Renya trained under Hiyori Sarugaki and Mashiro Kuna, focusing on controlled Hollowfication drills while simultaneously refining his Hakuda (hand-to-hand combat) techniques.

In the afternoons, Akita Bōgen—one of the Visoreds adept at Kidō—oversaw his practice in the Way of Binding (Bakudō) and Way of Destruction (Hadō) spells, strengthening both control and adaptability.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, mornings were devoted to Yoruichi's lessons—perfecting Shunpo (Flash Step) and advanced Stealth Force assassination techniques, including her personal variant of Shunkō (Flash Cry)—the fusion of Hakuda and Kidō that manifested as divine lightning.

In the afternoons of those same days, Renya would isolate himself to refine his body through magnetic field conditioning—a technique Kisuke Urahara designed to train the body's reiryoku flow through controlled electromagnetic fields. At the same time, he continued studying the resonance and potential of his Zanpakutō's spirit.

Seven days a week. Only the evenings and Sundays were truly his own.

Yet, to him, such rigor wasn't suffering—it was purpose.

Back in Seireitei, he had lived just as relentlessly.

Renya had no interest in remaining a passive observer of fate. He wanted the power to protect the people who had become his new family.

So he pushed himself without hesitation.

The day after Yoruichi moved into the Visoreds' warehouse, she summoned Renya to the open-air training field at dawn.

"Today," she said, her tail flicking, "we're perfecting your Shunpo. You've got potential, but you can still go faster."

Renya rubbed his eyes, yawning. "Understood, Senior Yoruichi… just—maybe a bit less yelling? I was up late discussing the latest Shōnen Jump issue with Aikawa-san."

"Less talking, more focus," she scolded, then leapt gracefully—her paw striking his head with a thwack.

"Ow! Alright, alright, I'm awake!" he yelped, clutching his scalp.

Yoruichi smirked. "Good. Now, how do you expect me to teach you Shunpo like this?"

Renya blinked. "Uh… you're still a cat. How can you demonstrate anything?"

Her golden eyes narrowed mischievously. "Simple."

A pulse of energy rippled outward—then, in a burst of light, the black cat vanished.

Standing before him now was a tall woman with dark brown skin, long violet hair, and sharp golden eyes that glowed with confidence and amusement.

Renya froze.

She was—unquestionably—stunning. Sculpted muscles, elegant curves, the aura of a goddess.

And—

"W-wait—you're not wearing anything!" Renya stammered, spinning around instantly, his face crimson.

"Oh?" Yoruichi looked down, then laughed heartily. "Guess I forgot clothes weren't included in the transformation package. Been a while since I've used this form."

Renya stood stiffly, trying not to move, eyes shut tight. "S-Senior Yoruichi, please—just—just put something on!"

Her laughter deepened. "You're blushing that much? My, you really are still a kid. I remember Soi Fon being the same way when she was your age—so uptight and serious."

At that, Lisa Yadōmaru suddenly appeared, adjusting her glasses with an exasperated sigh.

"I'll get her something to wear," she said dryly, disappearing and reappearing moments later with a uniform.

Yoruichi inspected the clothes. "A… sailor outfit?"

Lisa shrugged. "Closest thing I had that might fit you."

Renya turned around as Yoruichi dressed behind him, though the rustle of fabric and the soft snap of a waistband made his ears burn.

"Alright, you can look now," Yoruichi said cheerfully.

Renya turned—and his jaw nearly dropped again.

The outfit was tight, far too small for her frame. While the top managed to fit (barely), the skirt was short enough to make him panic all over again.

Yoruichi struck a teasing pose. "So? How do I look?"

"Uh—I—it doesn't really fit, Senpai," he stammered.

"Good enough," she said breezily. "Now, let's start training."

Renya focused desperately on her face, avoiding even a downward glance.

"Your Shunpo," Yoruichi began, adopting a more serious tone, "isn't wrong—but it's inefficient. You're using the standard Onmitsukidō pattern, but your physique limits your acceleration."

She paced around him as she explained. "Shunpo isn't just spiritual pressure poured into the legs—it's a symphony of motion: the ankle's pivot, the knee's recoil, and the burst of Reiatsu that propels the body. But your legs are short and thin, and your frame lacks leverage. That means your current Shunpo is almost entirely spiritual power-based—with little physical support. If you want to go faster, you need stronger legs."

Renya nodded, understanding her critique. His frame was small, and despite the conditioning, his physical propulsion was still the bottleneck.

"Like Shunkō or Raijin Senkei, the output is limited by what your body can channel," Yoruichi continued. "And I don't intend to use artificial enhancement to fix that."

Renya tilted his head. "Then what do you suggest, Senpai?"

Yoruichi's golden eyes gleamed. "Ever heard of the Quincy technique called Hirenkyaku?"

Renya's eyes widened. "That's the Quincy version of high-speed movement—like Shunpo, but based on manipulating Reishi underfoot, right?"

"Exactly," she said, pleased. "A Shinigami uses Reiatsu to burst forward. A Quincy collects Reishi beneath their feet and glides through the air. Hirenkyaku is faster than the average Shunpo, but lacks top-tier flexibility. Still, you could adapt its principles."

Renya crouched, intrigued. "So I'd need to gather Reishi beneath my soles… like forming a foothold midair."

"Right. Think of it as standing on condensed energy, then releasing it as thrust."

Renya concentrated, letting his Reiryoku flow downward. A faint shimmer appeared beneath his feet—particles aligning like a glowing step. He leapt upward and hovered briefly.

Yoruichi grinned. "Nice control. That's solid Tengairyoku—the base for aerial movement."

Renya smiled faintly. "Soi Fon taught me that. But to adapt Hirenkyaku…"

He inhaled, compressing his energy tighter beneath him. Then—boom—he shot forward several meters and landed smoothly.

Yoruichi's eyes widened. "You—actually did it?"

Renya shook his head. "Not quite. I forced the output by burning reiryoku. I can't sustain it yet. The movement was raw power, not refinement. My spirit particle control isn't on par with a Quincy's."

He stood thinking aloud. "The Quincy's strength comes from external manipulation—they draw ambient Reishi and shape it. Shinigami internalize their energy instead. That's why their techniques differ. The balance of control and conversion efficiency makes the difference."

Yoruichi crossed her arms, watching him think. He was sharp—too sharp for his age.

Renya continued, "Only Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi ever replicated Hirenkyaku's principle in Soul Society, using artificial Reishi clusters for short bursts of speed. The limit's clear: it's faster than most Shunpo users, but below the level of masters like you or Soi Fon."

He frowned. "So direct imitation won't work for me either."

Yoruichi smiled knowingly. "Of course it won't. But that's not what I'm teaching you."

Renya blinked. "Then…?"

"I want you to merge the two—use your spiritual power to ignite motion, but stabilize it with a Reishi base. In short: replace physical leg strength with controlled spiritual propulsion from below."

Renya's eyes brightened. "A dual-channel acceleration…"

Without hesitation, he focused reiryoku through his calves and simultaneously condensed spirit particles beneath his soles. His legs bent slightly—then, with explosive synchronization—

BOOM!

He vanished.

A split second later, a crash echoed across the training ground as he collided with a rock formation, shattering it.

Rubble scattered. Renya emerged, brushing dust from his shoulder. "Didn't time the output properly… too much thrust, too soon."

Yoruichi blinked, stunned. "You little prodigy… I only gave you the hint."

Renya stood, analyzing his stance. "Still unstable. But it works. The technique's scalable if I balance Reiatsu output with particle density."

Yoruichi smiled slowly, pride softening her expression. "Heh. I knew it. You really are something special, Renya."

That morning, the sun climbed high over Karakura Town, shining on shattered stones and the faint scorch marks of his training.

Yoruichi looked at the boy before her—not a child anymore, but a prodigy carving his own path.

And somewhere in the depths of her golden eyes, she saw a reflection of another young soul she once trained—

Soi Fon, once the same way: sharp, determined, and unrelenting.

But Renya… he was something entirely new.

A Shinigami who bridged power through logic, instinct, and creativity.

A storm yet to come.
