Chapter 29 - CHAPTER 29

Song Qingwan at first thought everything was just a coincidence.

But after listening to Lu Junhan's calm explanation, she suddenly realized the truth.

Yes—

Although the Lujia villa had heavy security and a top-tier anti-theft system that made it impossible for outsiders to sneak in, if the old man had really wanted confidential documents from Lu Junhan, he would have directly sent one of the elite soldiers he had trained himself.

Those men had gone through his devil-style training and could complete missions without leaving a trace.

Yet strangely, the old man never did that.

Instead, he kept sending those obvious "shadows" from the Lu Group—people Lu Junhan would immediately recognize. It was almost as if the old man was afraid Lu Junhan wouldn't notice his little tricks.

Now, looking back, it was obvious. The reason so many people in the company had been "exposed" and eliminated wasn't a coincidence—it was tied to the old man's hidden intent all along.

Song Qingwan rubbed her forehead helplessly and sighed:

"So after all this circling around, the truth is… the old man wanted to step away from the company a long time ago. But I thought he was deliberately making trouble for you every day because he wanted to train you!"

After all, her father had always believed in iron-blooded education. His soldiers were tempered by the harshest training until they became weapons themselves.

Not just her, but outsiders too thought the same. Watching the old man and Lu Junhan fight so fiercely, anyone would believe the old man wanted to completely devour the Lu family.

No wonder they had all misunderstood.

She frowned and asked:

"In that case… what have you been so busy with lately? I hardly even see you."

Lu Junhan took a drag from his cigarette, the smoke curling around his cold face. His voice was indifferent:

"The old man may have fewer people in the company now, but don't forget—he still holds a large number of shares and industries."

Song Qingwan was speechless.

This brat! Clearly, he thought the old man hadn't given him enough yet. He actually wanted the old man to hand over everything.

"Don't even think about it," she shook her head, almost laughing, "You know Dad's temper better than anyone. He values power more than his life! The fact that he gave you 9% of the shares already surprised me. Honestly, if the situation hadn't forced him, I'd have thought the sun was rising in the west!"

"Give me 9% of the shares? You're overthinking it." Lu Junhan's dark eyes were like ink, his lips curling in a cold sneer.

"Do you really take the old man for a fool? He's shrewd. Even if he didn't hand me those shares, I could have taken them tomorrow. He couldn't keep them."

That was the truth.

The old man only gave them away because he knew they couldn't be held onto. By doing so, he bought himself temporary peace in the old house and avoided open conflict.

In the end, it was still the old man profiting.

Song Qingwan: "…"

She felt more than ever that she and these two—her father and her nephew—weren't from the same world at all.

The old and young were locked in a vicious struggle, yet she, standing on the side, only felt awkward and out of place.

"So you've been busy with those 9% shares these past few days?" she asked.

Now that she knew the inside story, she naturally sided with Lu Junhan. Smiling faintly, she nudged him playfully:

"Alright, brat, I didn't expect you to be this capable. To even snatch shares out of Dad's hands… that's impressive."

But then, glancing at the tall figure of the old man fishing in the distance, she sighed softly, her voice turning serious:

"Still, after this, Dad will definitely be on guard. I'm afraid the rest of his shares won't be so easy to get."

Lu Junhan's eyes remained calm and cold. He lowered his gaze, took another drag from his cigarette, and said nothing.

---

Meanwhile, at the pond, the old man's furious roars rang out.

The little girl flinched, covering her buzzing ears with her soft little hands.

Her round eyes blinked, and after a moment she shook her head. Her milky voice piped up obediently:

"Grandpa, Lili won't leave. Daddy asked me to play with you."

She always listened to her father. If Daddy wanted her to play with Grandpa, then she would play with Grandpa!

Because Lili was a good baby!

She squatted obediently by the pond's edge, her chubby face glowing under the sun, her lashes like tiny feathers. Her delicate little figure looked like an innocent elf from a storybook.

But the old man didn't think she was cute at all.

Instead, he thought she was noisy, clingy, and utterly unbearable!

"Stay with me? Hah! I don't need anyone to accompany me!" The old man's face turned dark as he gripped his fishing rod. "I do just fine alone!"

Had it not been for the fact that she was his great-granddaughter—and that Lu Junhan would come looking for trouble—he might have tossed her into the pond already.

But the girl still refused to leave.

The old man's temper snapped completely, and he roared again:

"You little brat! Don't you understand human words? I told you to stay away from me! Do you hear me? Look, my fish are scared away because of you! How am I supposed to catch anything with you sitting here chattering?"

But the little girl looked up at him with big, watery eyes, her small voice soft and serious:

"Grandpa, it wasn't Lili who scared the fish away. It was you. You can't blame others wrongly."

"You—!" The old man nearly choked. He shot to his feet, his chest heaving.

After a long moment of forcing his breath calm, he picked up his chair and rod, spun around angrily, and barked:

"Fine! You won't go, then I will!"

"Grandpa, don't run away! Or Daddy won't find us later—"

The little girl panicked, scrambling to chase him.

But just as she turned, she saw a tall figure walking toward her.

Her steps froze. Her bright eyes lit up, and the next second she flew into the man's arms, clutching his sleeve tightly.

"Dad!" she cried sweetly.

Lu Junhan lowered his gaze, his palm resting gently on her soft hair. His lips curved faintly, and he let out a low "Mm."

The girl's little face flushed as she pulled at his sleeve, tugging him in a certain direction.

"Daddy, Grandpa, he went over there—"

"It's fine. Don't worry about him," Lu Junhan interrupted softly. He took the fishing rod from a servant and handed it to her. "Want to fish?"

"Yes!" The little girl's eyes sparkled like stars. "Daddy, will you teach me?"

"I'll find someone to teach you," he said at first.

Her face immediately fell, eyes dimming.

But then he checked his watch, paused, and added: "Half an hour. Once I finish my work, I'll come back."

The girl's eyes lit up again. "Then… then Daddy will teach me after?"

"Mn." His cold voice softened just a little. "Play by yourself for now."

The little girl hugged the fishing rod that was taller than her, her whole face glowing with joy.

"Okay! Daddy, you must come back soon. Lili will wait for you!"

Lu Junhan looked at her happiness and couldn't stop the slight curl of his lips.

"Yeah."

---

Not far away, the old man had already settled himself on the opposite side of the pond.

No noisy little girl by his side, no chattering in his ears.

For the first time in the day, he felt physically and mentally at ease.
