Chapter 109: Revitalizing the Senju Clan with Tsunade
Mito Uzumaki?
Shouldn't it be Tsunade? Could it be that Hiashi Hyūga doesn't know that Tsunade also learned the Yin Seal?
The time Tsunade learned the Yin Seal should have been after she left Konoha, and she had never returned since. Thinking about it this way, it made sense.
As for why Hiashi mentioned Mito Uzumaki—the answer was simple. The Yin Seal was, in fact, a sealing ninjutsu of the Uzumaki clan. Tsunade must have received Mito Uzumaki's true teachings. Other clans might not know what the Yin Seal was, but the Hyūga, who could see the flow of chakra, very likely had records of how a ninja's chakra changed after the seal was activated.
This was also why he had used the Yin Seal to prove his origin. Of course, if Hiashi didn't even have this much insight, he wouldn't have minded showing him the Flying Thunder God Technique as well. At that point, no one would be able to question his "pure pedigree."
"While I would like to say she is my teacher—in reality, our relationship is a bit complicated. It's hard to explain in just a few words."
He put on a hesitant expression, and Hiashi immediately understood, not pressing any further. It seemed to be a private matter concerning the survivors of the Senju or Uzumaki clans. It was indeed not appropriate to know too much about such things.
At this moment, Hiashi thought back to his naive speech from earlier.
If a person with no ability said such things, they would only be seen as childish. But with him as an inheritor of the Senju legacy, his words now became a declaration of his ancestors' will, and the banner of the Will of Fire he carried became even more vibrant!
Hiashi took a deep breath. "Since you are an inheritor of the Senju, why haven't you said anything?"
"At that time, you would have definitely received the full attention of Lord Hokage. You might have become the strongest of Konoha's new generation. It wouldn't even be impossible for you to become Hokage in the future."
As he spoke, he gestured for him to sit down again and even had Natsu pour him more tea.
Makoto sat down with perfect composure, as if nothing had just happened. After taking a sip of tea, he spoke the words that would shock Hiashi to his core.
"What if... Lady Tsunade and I want to revitalize the Senju Clan?"
The teacup Hiashi was raising to his lips froze for a full half-minute. The amount of information contained in that single sentence was simply too enormous.
With this sentence, everything unreasonable about him suddenly became reasonable.
Despite having such talent and strength, he was writing books in Konoha instead of being a ninja. When the Third Hokage challenged him, he brought up Hashirama Senju's Will of Fire ideology. And now, he was boldly discussing political marriage in front of him—if it were anyone from any other clan daring to marry the outstanding kunoichi of various clans at the same time, they would certainly be attacked by all sides.
But the Senju clan—that was the clan that had dissolved itself, integrated into Konoha, and become the progenitor of many of the current clans!
If he were to call on the Senju clan members to return, would he receive an overwhelming response, instantly forming a new clan that would reshuffle the power and influence of all existing families?
At that time, many people would surely want him dead. The Uchiha clan from a few years ago was a perfect precedent. The Uchiha had merely wanted to rebel and seize power. Once their coup succeeded, they would at most take some key positions, while the vast majority of Konoha's ninja and civilians would continue doing what they had always done.
But what he wanted to do was more than that. Once the Senju clan was revitalized, what they would want to take back would include not just power, but also land and wealth, and even the powerhouses from many small and medium-sized clans. This was almost equivalent to forcibly reshuffling the entire deck of Konoha and driving the biggest clans out of the center of power.
Would those old folks in the Hokage's Office tolerate such a thing?
Obviously, there was no possibility. They would probably be ten times more furious than when they learned the Uchiha were planning a rebellion.
Hiashi truly had no desire to drink tea anymore. He put down his cup, a bitter smile on his lips. He should have just let him go home earlier. Why did he have to chat with him? Now look, they'd chatted their way into a disaster.
How should he handle this?
"I roughly understand your meaning, Makoto-kun," Hiashi said, feigning calmness. "It is just that the Hyūga clan has no intention of getting deeply involved in Konoha's internal affairs. Our clan has always maintained a certain distance from the transfer of power."
"Therefore, regardless of what you are thinking, the Hyūga clan and I are powerless to help."
Makoto was not surprised by this answer. Hiashi's abilities were indeed insufficient to deal with those old foxes in the Hokage's Office. But since he had already said this much, he naturally wouldn't allow Hiashi to just retreat.
If he wanted to live safely in Konoha for the next few months, he either had to strike first and take down Danzō, or he had to increase the number and weight class of his allies. Relying on individual ninja was clearly not enough to keep Danzō quiet. That left him with only one option: to try and pull in a teammate of the Hyūga clan's caliber.
What if he failed, you ask? Then he would just go and build a relationship with Tsunade early and return during the Konoha Crush!
He smiled faintly. "Lord Hiashi, can the Hyūga clan truly remain aloof?"
Hiashi did not reply, clearly intending to show him the door.
He continued, "I won't even mention the day Hinata was almost kidnapped by the Cloud, and all the scheming the Hyūga clan had to endure."
"Just the problem of the Caged Bird Seal between Hinata and Hanabi—can you solve it?"
Hiashi clenched his fists, glaring at him. He respected his heritage and background, but that didn't mean he would remain indifferent when threatened. In terms of pure strength, there were few in Konoha who were his match.
Makoto ignored his imposing aura. "Let's assume that in the future, I become a powerhouse renowned throughout the ninja world, and I marry either Hinata or Hanabi. Naturally, no one would dare mention carving the Caged Bird Seal on their foreheads."
"The Hyūga clan would also gain greater room for development. Of course, you can assume I'm just dreaming."
"But what if Lady Tsunade and I really do revitalize the Senju clan? Does the Hyūga clan not want to secure its position in the future?"
After speaking, he took the initiative to stand up.
"Thank you for the tea, Lord Hiashi. You can pretend you never heard what I just said. I can also stop contacting Hinata and Hanabi from now on."
"But would that really be good for the Hyūga clan, and for Hinata and Hanabi? I trust you will make a wise judgment."
He nodded to Natsu, then walked towards the door.
But just as he stepped outside, he saw Hinata and Hanabi kneeling on the floor. Their pale faces made it clear they had been kneeling for some time.
"What are you two doing?" he asked, puzzled.
They looked up at him in surprise. Hanabi asked, "Father didn't punish you?"
"Lord Hiashi is such a kind person. Why would he punish me?"
Hanabi said nothing, but the question marks all over her head clearly said: What does the word 'kind' have to do with my father?
Just as he was about to tell them to stand up, Hiashi unexpectedly followed him out.
He glanced at his two daughters. "Since Makoto-kun is leaving, you two should see him out. When you interact with him in the future, you must remember not to be discourteous. Understand?"
Hinata and Hanabi quickly bowed to their father. He then nodded to Makoto. "If you have time, Makoto-kun, you are always welcome at the Hyūga compound. Consider it a small token of my gratitude for you helping my two daughters."
A smile curved Makoto's lips. "Then thank you, Lord Hiashi."
Hiashi's statement clearly meant: I won't allow you to get too close to my daughters just yet, and I want to observe you for a while longer. Only then will I decide which side to bet on. After all, his words were just words for now. What kind of waves he could actually make was still an unknown.
He was already very satisfied with this result. He had even been prepared for a complete falling out, for Hiashi to try and capture him, and for him to have to flee.
"How did you do that?!"
The moment Hiashi was out of earshot, Hanabi jumped up, grabbing his hand, her eyes shining like stars.
Hinata also looked like a curious kitten. She truly didn't understand how he had made their strict father adopt such a kind attitude.
"It's simple—"
He pinched Hanabi's nose, then turned to Hinata and said with a grin, "I told him I'm the only one who can make his daughters happy, and he believed me."
