Chapter 42 - CHAPTER 42 (S2)

CHAPTER 42 (S2)

Ruby looked like she was about to have a mental breakdown right then and there. I walked over to her, sitting down beside her. She stared at the ground, with an unpleasant expression on her face..

"Hey, I'm sure it will be fine.." I reassured her. She slowly turned her head towards me, looking me deadpan in the eyes.

"I know.. but that's only if she believes us! Other than that, she might bail on us! I don't want to lose her trust like that." Ruby complained, in an upset voice. She sighed. I looked down, taking note of her leg shaking up and down. I looked back, glancing at the two men looking at us, I focused on Christian, hoping to get some kind of assurance that I could comfort her, but he shook his head. Not to mention, Nicole looked fairly upset as well, I suppose seeing Ruby upset has an affect on him too.

For now, all we could do was let this sink in, and get a move on as soon as possible. For all we know, Rexine is in big trouble if Ivy finds her. I sighed, as I stood up and walked over to Nicole and Christian. Nicole kept glancing at Ruby, and Christian... was leaning against a wall, with a troubled expression.

A few moments passed by, silently. No one said anything. But, Ruby broke through the silence.

"Let's find her." She spoke, more like a command than a suggestion.

"Who- what? It's dangerous, we have to make a plan first–" Nicole replied, but got cut off short.

"Then let's make a plan. We can't leave Rexine.. she'll get influenced easily since it's her sister who's the villain.." Ruby stated. She was right, though. Rexine would probably choose family over friends, that fact seeped through her entire personality.

Christian sighed, looking at Ruby. "Yeah, alright.. better not be late, though. We have no idea if she's already with Ivy or not.. but I doubt it." He commented.

"Yeah, no way. We JUST saw them like ten minutes ago, there's no way Rexine found her that fast." Nicole added, as I nodded.

Ruby walked over to us, with a pen and a fairly large piece of paper. She slammed it onto the kitchen counter and gave me the pen. "Draw." She demanded.

I cocked my head to the side, giving her a confused stare. "Draw what..?"

"The layout. On this floor." She commanded. I didn't want to make her more upset-mad then she already was, so I started drawing from the room we were in.

It didn't take too long, but I managed to draw the entire layout of the floor. It was somewhat a bit complex, but easy after you've got the hang of it.

"Alright.. so we're all currently here," I pointed to the map I had just drawn.

"And these are all the rooms, at the sides." I spoke as I pointed again.

"So how do we know where Ivy and Rexine are right now?" Christian asked. I rolled my eyes.

"I DON'T know. That's the thing, we're supposed to find them, idiot." I replied, turning back to the map.

Christian scoffed, but didn't say anything further. Once I finished explaining the exits and rooms, we left the counter, then started looking for protection and weapons. We split up across the apartment, and went searching for protection for ourselves.

I got a pretty sharp broken metal pipe, and a metal piece of scrap.. that was pinned to the wall.. fortunately if anything. I halved it, with a pair of scissors. I put it over my shirt on my arm and put another layer of cloth over it.

Once we all found protection and a weapon each, we went back to the kitchen. Everyone seemed to have pretty solid protection and weapons... Except for Nicole..

"Seriously dude? Tape? And a butter knife?" Christian said, looking at Nicole, who put tape over his shirt on his arms, holding a butter knife with one hand. Nicole laughed awkwardly and tilted his head innocently.

"What? That's all I found!" He exclaimed. Ruby walked past Nicole, over to the drawer and took out a real sharp looking knife, then handed it over to Nicole.

"At least take a REAL knife." Ruby suggested, and crossed her arms.

Nicole let out a low exhale and took the REAL knife.

"Okay, so.. the leaders will be you and Christian." Ruby stated. I swear I felt my eye twitch. Seriously? Him? Out of Nicole and Ruby? God damnit, Ruby. I decided against arguing about it, since it was no use anyway. I could also hear Christian scoff, but didn't protest either.

Once we all were ready, I led the way. Where were we going? Towards the only footsteps that echoed through the hallways. My footsteps were silent, as the others followed along behind me. I walked past the long hallway, the footsteps that we heard leading us dangerously close to a dead end.

I cautiously followed the echoing sound of the soft footsteps, the others following right behind me.

Nicole was third in the single formed line, and he had stopped moving, oddly. Ruby asked him to keep moving, but he stayed silent like he was listening to someone or hearing something. Then uninformed, he started quietly walking to a room. We all had to follow as we couldn't speak since we had to be extra quiet. We just followed behind him, and we stopped in front of an apartment room door. He slowly but surely opened it, but nothing. There was nothing and no one there. Nicole had a confused expression.

"I swear I heard muffled noises from this-" he was cut off, a zombie from behind the door coming up and bumping into him. We all stayed silent, not knowing how to react. Nicole froze up. Although, before it could violently start attacking, Ruby reacted fast, pushed the zombie, making it fall to the ground and then closing the door shut. Nicole's hand was still on the door handle when Ruby closed the door, making their hands make slight contact. We all sighed in relief, Ruby now looking at Nicole with slight disappointment. Whatever the case though, we had no time to argue or scold Nicole. We then headed back into position, as we were a bit far away from the footsteps.

I started walking towards the sound once again, the others following behind.

I was so focused on following the sound, that I hadn't stopped to realize how close we had actually gotten. I only managed to realize when Christian grabbed my arm right before we turned a corner, and stopped me. I leaned my weight against the wall, and we all eavesdropped on who sounded like Ivy.

I stumbled forward, because Christian grabbed me so suddenly. I let out a half yelp, but covered my mouth halfway. I guess we attracted their attention, because the footsteps stopped, so did the talking. What did I do next? Reveal our hiding spot. I had just peeked a tiny bit to see if they were still moving, but oh brother was I in trouble. They were looking directly at the corner we hid. I took off immediately, running the opposite direction.

"RUN!! THEY KNOW WE'RE HERE!" I yelled back to the three, and then they also started running as well, catching up to me. Eventually, the other three were on my tail, and ivy and redhead were together.. oh boy.

"Come back here!~" the redhead shouted to us. And heck, ivy and the redhead really seemed like athletes. They were catching up to us and fast. As Ruby was at the back, she was losing stamina and it was evident. And eventually, she was within the reach of ivy..
