Arc 2 – Re:LifeChapter 9 – The Voice of the System
Arin sat on a rock beside the broken trees, staring at the glowing blue screen before him.His heartbeat had finally steadied, but his mind was full of questions.
He looked up at the sky — still gray, still silent — and then whispered,"System… what is Necromancy?"
The screen flickered, and the same calm voice spoke inside his head.
[Necromancy: A Myth-tier Class.][It grants the power to command souls and awaken the dead.][In this world, only one necromancer has ever existed — and his name was erased from history.]
Arin's eyes widened."A Myth-tier class? Then… why me?"
No reply. Only the cold wind brushed against his skin.
After a moment, he asked again, his voice quieter now."Then… who killed me?"
The system was silent for a few seconds before answering.
[Your previous death was not physical.][It was a dream — a fragment of your lost memory.][You were never truly dead.]
Arin froze. "A… dream? Then what was all that pain? That voice saying I was dead?"
[Dreams are fragments of the truth your soul cannot yet handle.]
Arin lowered his head, frowning."So that wasn't real… but it felt real."
The system didn't respond this time. Only a faint hum came from the glowing screen.
He sighed. "Fine. I'll figure it out myself."
Just then, a faint noise echoed from deep within the forest — a growl, weak but desperate.Arin looked up sharply.
"…A wolf?"
He stood, following the sound through the fog and shadows. The growl turned into a whimper. When he reached a small clearing, he froze.
A tiny wolf cub — silver-furred and barely breathing — was cornered by three green-skinned goblins. They laughed, waving crude spears, closing in.
Arin clenched his fists. His heart raced again, and the system suddenly chimed:
[Tutorial Quest Activated]Quest: "Rescue the Creature."Objective:Save the young wolf from danger.Reward:+10 Attribute Points (Can be assigned to any stat).
He looked at the glowing window, then at the helpless cub."So this is my first mission, huh?" he muttered.
The goblins noticed him, hissing and pointing their weapons.Arin felt something stir deep inside his chest — that same dark energy he'd felt when the system awakened.
"Alright," he said quietly, eyes glowing faintly blue and black again. "Let's see what this new life can really do."
The shadows beneath him rippled like water — and the goblins took a step back, fear flashing in their eyes.
