Anya rubbed her head and looked around, realizing she had already been transported to the Northern Stronghold. She muttered with sarcasm, "No warning before using the Heavenly Transfer Technique. Good thing my physical condition is decent."
She swiftly arrived at the location using Shunshin and pushed open the lab door of the Serpent Master. Just then, a black-cloaked ninja turned away from her and disappeared using Shunshin.
That brief moment sent an uneasy feeling through Anya's heart, as if something clicked in her mind.
Before she could process it, Orochimaru let out an annoyed grunt, "Who do you think this place is? Coming and going whenever you feel like it without even a greeting?"
Why is everyone so quick to get mad these days? First the little secretary, now Serpent Master too?
Unbothered, Anya walked over with a grin and said, "This time I've brought you something you've always longed for, Serpent Master."
Orochimaru replied flatly, "Oh? What is it? Just show me."
"This," Anya took out the pair of eyes gifted by Obito—Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan.
The previously indifferent Orochimaru's eyes narrowed sharply, and he asked carefully, "Mangekyō Sharingan... Whose is this?"
"Itachi Uchiha's. Tsukuyomi in the left, Amaterasu in the right."
Orochimaru steadied himself, "I remember he was your foster son. Originally, I thought you would try saving him."
Anya sighed, "Someone who seeks death cannot be saved."
"So, the Sasuke I trained has awakened his Mangekyō as well?" Orochimaru questioned, "What abilities does he have?"
"I don't know. I haven't seen them yet."
"You bringing these eyes here can't possibly just be for research purposes," Orochimaru, understanding her well, asked bluntly, "Tell me, what are you planning this time?"
Anya didn't beat around the bush either. "I want you to extract the cells from these eyes and bring Itachi back through Impure World Reincarnation."
"Fine. I'd also like to see his reaction when he sees me alive. That should be quite interesting," Orochimaru readily agreed.
"Here, the sacrifice." Anya casually tossed forward a Suna ninja.
Orochimaru seemed rather surprised, "Isn't that village—the Sand Village—Sasori's home? Is this how you treat his subordinates?"
Anya shrugged casually, "Konoha is also your village, isn't it? We killed plenty back when we were conducting underground experiments there. What, did you get soft-hearted in your old age?"
Orochimaru chuckled bitterly, "Indeed. It's been far too long since my hands last tasted blood. I almost forgot we're both stained with blood."
After receiving Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan, Orochimaru displayed a complex expression in his eyes. Once upon a time, this was the very object of his obsession. However, after several failed attempts and having created the Chakra of Nine Tailed Beasts here later on, his fixation toward it wasn't nearly as intense as before.
Once he extracted the cells from the eyes themselves, Orochimaru immediately performed Impure World Reincarnation on the sacrificial body. Soon enough, Itachi's form enveloped the vessel and opened its eyes.
When Itachi saw the two figures before him, his eyes widened slightly in surprise, then he remarked, "Foster Father, was it you who rescued Orochimaru? Didn't expect the two of you to actually work together."
Just with a single glance, before Anya and Orochimaru could even speak, Itachi had already understood everything. That kind of intelligence was exactly why Konoha had placed him as a double agent on both sides back then.
Orochimaru sneered coldly, "Itachi, you never would've imagined this day would come, huh? Right now, I can actually control you."
"Ahh." Itachi sighed, ignoring Orochimaru entirely and turning straight to Anya. "Foster Father, since you've reincarnated me through the Impure World Reincarnation, what is it that you need me to do?"
Anya looked at Itachi approvingly for a moment, then spoke in a tone of disappointment, "You've always been sharp-minded and highly intelligent, able to see through many things. You've gradually guided Sasuke's growth, but you should also know that your mother is still alive. Have you ever considered how devastating your death might be for her?"
Itachi wore an expression of sadness. "I know. Mother has always been so gentle. It's me who has continually failed her."
"Your mother has also awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan. Her ocular ability is the Celestial Eye; she nearly exhausted all her life force just to see you boys. Now, I've sealed her Mangekyo, but if she were to learn of your death, the shock might cause her Mangekyo to break through its seal, leading to serious consequences." Anya said solemnly. "That's precisely why we've brought you back—to persuade her and prevent her from grieving too much."
"Mother has awakened the Mangekyo as well," Itachi gasped, stunned beyond words. "No wonder sometimes when I was within the Akatsuki, I occasionally felt like I was being watched. So that sensation was real after all."
Orochimaru, standing nearby, hadn't expected yet another Mangekyo user to emerge in the world. Judging from the description, its ability sounded quite strong too—more geared towards auxiliary functions. His eyes gleamed with interest, but when he considered Mikoto's connection to Anya, he quickly let the idea go.
"Foster Father, please take me there. I want to meet Mother," Itachi's voice was filled with longing.
"Alright, let's go."
Anya waved goodbye to Orochimaru, grabbed hold of Itachi's arm, and soared into the air, exiting the stronghold.
Pushing their speed to the limit, the two quickly reached the Clan District. Using soul perception, Anya slightly furrowed his brows—how come there were so few people left in the clan? Nevertheless, Mikoto was still here.
Arriving at the courtyard gate, Anya gave Itachi a signal.
Itachi extended his hand, preparing to push open the gate. When his fingers finally made contact, even someone as calm and wise as him hesitated—actually unable to push forward.
Throughout his entire life, he had considered many people, except for his mother...
"Who is it outside?" Mikoto's gentle voice rang out.
Itachi trembled all over, yet finally resolved himself. He pushed the door open and stepped inside, announcing, "Mother, it's me, Itachi."
Mother and son stood frozen in place, tears silently streaming down their cheeks.
Anya hated to break such a heartfelt moment. He softly shut the courtyard door behind them and vanished in an instant, using Shunshin to reappear beside his two children. Overflowing with maternal warmth, Kurenai Yuhi was happily playing with the kids.
Suddenly appearing, Anya scooped Bai and Rainbow each into one arm, lifting them high up in the air repeatedly. The laughter of the two children filled the yard. Meanwhile, Kurenai Yuhi wore a surprised look on her face and cheerfully said, "You're back."
Anya boldly moved in and kissed Kurenai before asking, "Why are you home alone? Where did Haku and Konan go?"
"Oh, Konan stayed here for a few days, then said she wanted to send her two friends back to Rain Country's Sanshouo Hanzo village for burial. Haku was deeply concerned for her well-being, so he went along too."
A flicker of light passed through Anya's eyes. The Rinnegan belonging to Nagato had already been switched by him before he died. Even if Obito went looking for Konan, it would be useless. In those eyes, Anya could clearly sense a dormant power teeming with untapped potential—definitely worth further research. However, he needed to find Hakuto first.
