Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Orphan's Song

Upon returning to the Hidden Leaf exchange group, Uchiha Yato immediately sought out Hyuga Hizashi.

After all, during Uchiha Yato's absence, the Hidden Leaf exchange group wasn't completely idle - they could engage in some sightseeing and learning within the Hidden Sand Village.

To be honest, Uchiha Yato himself didn't know what exactly could be learned in the Hidden Sand Village, as their medical system and other aspects still couldn't compare to the Hidden Leaf.So this time, Uchiha Yato came to the Hidden Sand Village for study as part of a poverty alleviation project.

It was also an opportunity to get out of Sarutobi Hiruzen's sight. Otherwise, if anything happened to upset Hiruzen, the unlucky one would definitely be Uchiha Yato.

Hyuga Hizashi said, "The Hidden Sand Village is generally quite lenient with us. Apart from two Anbu monitoring us, we're allowed to move around freely."

A chuunin remarked, "They have very little water resources, and the food they produce doesn't taste good."

There was no helping it. The Hidden Leaf was located in a resource-rich area, and ninja raised in such an environment naturally looked down on the food from barren desert regions.

Uchiha Yato addressed everyone, "Let's all try to endure it."

"You can have some extra food on the side, but don't go overboard. After all, we're in enemy territory now. Let's not cause any real unpleasantness."

Uchiha Yato liked stirring up trouble, but he wasn't suicidal.

Who knew if there might be some shameless secret technique that could take someone out in an instant.

Playing it safe was always the better option.

Hyuga Hizashi had also heard about the matter between the Third Kazekage and Uchiha Yato.

Hizashi asked with concern, "Can you really get them the song?"

"If I remember correctly, this was something your Uchiha clan only released recently."

"Don't end up in an awkward position later."

Hizashi wasn't mocking him; he was genuinely concerned about Uchiha Yato.

Besides, it was a matter of the Hidden Leaf's reputation. As a member of the Hidden Leaf, he naturally wanted to support his village.

Uchiha Yato wasn't worried at all.

To maximize the song's impact, Uchiha Yato needed to find people to rehearse it.

After all, the song was nominally a gift from the Third Kazekage to the orphanage children.

He had to make sure the leader's request was handled beautifully, so everyone would go after the Third Kazekage.

Oh, wait—no.

"Admire" the Third Kazekage.

Uchiha Yato said to Hyuga Hizashi, "Help me find some local children willing to assist."

"I'll give them candy as payment."

Though he didn't know what Uchiha Yato was planning, Hizashi was familiar with the rules of the main and branch families.

Naturally, he followed Uchiha Yato's decisions.

To put it bluntly, the system established by the Hyuga clan's Byakugan had somewhat cultivated a servile nature in the branch family members.

Seeing Hizashi's unquestioning compliance, Uchiha Yato wondered if he should find a way to remove his Caged Bird seal.

Uchiha Yato believed his Doraemon-like system would fulfill this small request.

...

Three days later.

These past few days, Sasori and Uchiha Yato had been together.

The rehearsals were left to Hyuga Hizashi.

After hearing the song Uchiha Yato had written, Hizashi kept his head down and stayed silent.

He only hoped that if this really happened, it wouldn't affect the friendship between the two villages.

Uchiha Yato was also very straightforward—if anything went wrong, he would take full responsibility.

Uchiha Yato had harvested quite a few Emotion Coins these past two days, all thanks to Sasori.

Today, the Third Kazekage had gathered everyone in front of the orphanage.

Because today, the Third Kazekage was going to put on a grand show.He had also read the reports from the Anbu over the past two days.

While Uchiha Yato was writing songs for him, he also invited children from Sunagakure to perform dances to accompany his music.

This instantly livened up the atmosphere between the two villages, earning the Third Kazekage's full support.

Uchiha Yato summoned Tom to assist on-site.

Since the Uchiha Clan had previously taught the exchange group how to operate audio equipment and the like, they handled it with ease.

At this point, Hizashi still couldn't resist trying to persuade Uchiha Yato to abandon the plan.

Uchiha Yato said, "Don't be so pessimistic. Letting Sunagakure liven things up a bit isn't bad."

Hizashi thought to himself, I just hope the Third Kazekage doesn't find out the truth later and decide to roast us all.

Under the expectant gazes of the crowd, a series of speeches began at the entrance of Sunagakure's orphanage.

This kind of opening should have been all too familiar to everyone.

But this time, since everyone knew there was a different program in store, they weren't particularly interested in it.

Uchiha Yato had also previously fed the Third Kazekage some Bewitching Soup.

He deliberately showed the Third Kazekage the dance performed by the Uchiha Girl Group, assuring him that the event would be just as exciting.

This made the Third Kazekage put on a stern act, scolding Uchiha Yato, "There's no need for something like this when it's meant for the children."

Of course, his hands betrayed him as he quietly pocketed both Uchiha Yato's recording tape and the player.

Seeing that the timing was right, Uchiha Yato stepped forward to make his final statement to everyone.

"I know you're all eager, but I ask you to hold on just a little longer."

"This event is exclusively sponsored by the Third Kazekage."

"Please remember the Third Kazekage's name, and we hope you all enjoy the program he has prepared for you."

For some reason, hearing Uchiha Yato repeatedly emphasize the Third Kazekage's involvement made Chiyo feel uneasy. She couldn't quite put her finger on why, so she decided to wait and see.

Then, the music began.

The opening melody was quite cheerful, winning over many in the audience.

But then the lyrics started:

"Without clouds, there's no rain in the sky"

"Without trees, where would flowers lie?"

"Fish can't live without water's embrace"

"But which child has no home to face?"

The first part of the lyrics sounded fine, but the latter half took a strange turn.

Then came a burst of laughter.

The singing continued:

"Who says we have no home?"

"Who says we have no home?"

"The orphanage is warm and bright"

"Our teachers love us day and night"

At this point, some of the orphanage children's emotions began to shift.

Not with joy—but with sorrow.

Because of war, they had lost their parents.

Because of illness, they had lost their parents.

Because of abandonment, they had lost their parents.

Hearing these words now made their hearts ache, but their teachers had taught them to stay strong, so they endured in silence.

Then the next lyrics made them burst into uncontrollable sobs.

"You have no mom or dad"

"None of you have a home"

"No kin to lend a hand"

"All alone, do you fear the unknown?"

(If you want to hear the original song, search for Orphanage Paradise.)

Okay, these lines were an absolute bombshell.

Not only did the orphanage children cry, but even the kids who had rehearsed earlier felt their emotions stirred uncomfortably by the lyrics.A single child's cry set off a hundred others in unison.

At this moment, Chiyo finally understood what Uchiha Yato was playing at.

This guy had plunged the entire Hidden Sand Village into a cacophony of children's wailing.

There was no helping it—the cheerful music paired with such "emotional" lyrics was devastatingly effective.

The children who had once held favorable impressions of the Third Kazekage instantly turned their hatred toward him.

Uchiha Yato had made it abundantly clear to everyone beforehand that all of this was done under the Third Kazekage's orders, so the responsibility lay entirely with him.

In an instant, the Third Kazekage's face turned green with fury. He immediately ordered the Anbu to maintain order while he made a hasty escape from the scene.

Dealing with Uchiha Yato's mischief could wait—if he got caught now, he would undoubtedly be dragged out by the villagers for a public execution.

And so, this incident began to ferment within the Hidden Sand Village...
