Chapter 128 - Aftermath

(3rd person POV)

Mcgonagall led Snape and Quirelmort towards the direction the sounds came from and all three were alarmed to find a mountain troll laid out on the floor while three Gryffindor's stood there in shock. Snape bent over the troll to examine it carefully while Quirelmort feigned dread and fear of the beast dramatically. Mcgonagall however was furiously glaring at the three students before her.

"What on Earth were you thinking of?" she said with cold fury in her voice. "You're lucky you weren't killed! Why aren't you in your dormitory?" she demanded.

"It wasn't luck though was it?" Snape said as he stood up from the troll.

"What do you mean by that Severus?" Mcgonagall asked with a deep frown.

"It's subtle but there are burns in the beasts ears. Fresh burns." he said darkly.

She walked over the the creature and checked for herself and indeed found the burns in question.

"Explain in detail what happened here, including why you three were here at all." she demanded from the students.

"It was my fault Professor. I thought I could handle the troll, read about them you know. These two came to try and stop me and got caught up in it." Hermione lied awkwardly but in a way that was hard to disprove.

Mcgonagall narrowed her eyes on the other two "Is this true?" she demanded.

""Yes, professor."" both said playing along.

"Very well, now what happened?" she asked a little softer.

"We came right when the troll was knocking the stalls over. It looked like it was about to crush Hermione when it swung to the left for some reason. Hang about, now that I'm really thinking on it didn't that happen every time it looked like the ruddy beast was about to hit us?" Ron said with a scrunched up confused expression.

"There was always something else before it did it too, a sound, like static from a television without signal. A sort of buzzing sound." Hermione chimed in.

Mcgonagall and Snape shared a look at that.

"Thank you, I believe we should have a clear picture now. But how was the troll defeated.

"It was Ron, he used a levitation charm on the club mid swing and dropped it on the trolls head." Harry said putting all the glory on the red head.

"Luck then, typical." Snape scoffed.

"Despite the outcome being favorable you were all incredibly reckless and so I'm docking ten points from Gryffindor for each of you. Severus can I trust you the handle the troll?" Mcgonagall said sternly.

The man nodded slightly and the older woman turned back to the trio.

"Follow me, you need to get back to the dormitory and you clearly can not be trusted to go straight there by yourselves." she said firmly and led the trio away.

When she left Snape just glared at the troll with a dark look.

(normal POV)

I winced a bit when I heard Snape mention the burns and again when the golden trio pointed out the sound my interference caused.

"You good mate?" Terry asked concerned.

"Yeah, my injuries are just acting up a bit." I lied and he nodded in acceptance before letting it go.

I mentally slapped myself though because I highly doubted Snape and Mcgonagall didn't put two and two together here. They definitely knew I had been the one who interfered or at least heavily suspected it at the least. In the end I could only accept the situation for what it was and move on.-

One regret I had though was that I didn't get to really eat dinner at all before Quirelmort showed up. That meant I couldn't temper my body tonight or I'd be miserable till breakfast in the morning. This left me slightly uncomfortable since it had been my habit for quite some time now. We all did get some food as the house elves brought some but it was by no means a feast like normal. I spent some time reading before bed but otherwise that was the end of my first Halloween at Hogwarts.-

As we moved into November winter came with a fury as the cold wasted no time at all showing up in force. The grounds were covered in frost every morning and Hagrid had taken to defrosting broomsticks on the Quidditch pitch. His new tagalong, Darget the Dimorphodon, usually came with him but you'd hardly be able to tell with how bundled up the thing was on the guy's shoulder. The newly born raptor, Talon, refused to leave the warmth of the half giants hut flat out. It was also to no surprise a WAY better guard dog than Fang the actual dog.-

It was downright hostile if Hagrid wasn't there to vouch for you. Thankfully Hagrid understood that he absolutely couldn't keep it at his hut and was in the process of setting up a place for it in the forest. Dumbledore might have given the green light for the Dimorphodon and Ark phoenix since they weren't really dangerous unless provoked but the Raptor was where the line was drawn. Of course that was only when the thing was fully grown and could take care of itself and not a tiny but ferocious thing. Speaking of the Ark phoenix a rather funny thing had been going on there.-

Fawkes, the actual phoenix familiar of Dumbledore had been cozying up to my bird. Not trying to mate or anything like that but sort of like when you meet a stranger and immediately hit it off as good friends. The old man made the introduction and the rest as they say is history. I didn't bother giving the bird a name and simply called it Ark from where it came from, lazy I know but nothing for it. The bird will lose all memories when it eventually has to be reborn from ash so naming it is pointless.
