Chapter 407 - Chapter 410 Those had been Korlic's final words to her

"Maiden of Lust, do you have no other name? If not, I fear I won't be able to carve a proper headstone for you."

Those had been Korlic's final words to her. The last words he spoke as a living man. What followed was a long, cold death, until she was finally reawakened recently.

The reason she hadn't sought out Korlic this time wasn't just because she couldn't handle his high-speed "affections" again. It was because she couldn't bear to look into his eyes—eyes that, even in the midst of carnal release, still radiated a profound pity for life.

"Korlic was a good man... I only met him too late," she whispered in her final moments.

If she had met Korlic before she became a succubus, perhaps she wouldn't have walked this path of insatiable desire. Korlic had a strength that could heal the soul. To a woman as scarred as she had been, such a man was an irresistible light.

"Yeah, too late. Time for you to sleep," Hailab grunted.

He released her shattered arms and pulled his leg out of her mangled chest. Then, he locked his arms around the succubus's waist in a crushing embrace. The two figures looked almost as if they were about to share a final dance, despite the fact that neither of them looked human anymore.

"I hate hearing about how 'good' other people are," Hailab growled, his expression turning feral, like a hyena baring its teeth. "Because if I were still alive, all those 'good' men would be bowing at my feet!"

He tightened his grip. "Korlic was a good man, sure. But he was also a married one. You and him? That was just an accident."

His arms constricted like a boa constrictor crushing its prey.

"If we had met a little earlier... before you saw Korlic, before you became a demon... maybe you would have liked the feeling of being conquered by me instead."

Then, the arcane energy within him detonated.

In a single heartbeat, a dozen wounds burst open across his body. In the throes of agonizing pain, his strength flared one last time. Pain always made him furious. Perhaps if Hailab could ever truly extinguish his rage, he might have become a beloved Ancestor.

But the Barbarians needed a warrior, not a charmer.

"I'm no good man," Hailab whispered, his eyes burning with desire. "But at least I would have given my wife my everything—unlike Korlic, who was too stingy to ever truly give himself away."

In the final moment before the end, Hailab no longer cared about his responsibilities as a warrior. Both existences were coming to a close. The difference was that Hailab was merely exiting the stage, while the Maiden of Lust was falling into an eternal sleep.

"You will never find a lover to suit your heart," the Maiden's body began to crumble into ash under his grip. Her final words lingered in the air. "You understand nothing of tenderness... or how to accept love."

"I don't get it," Hailab grumbled, looking thoroughly annoyed. "When I was alive, women avoided me like the plague. They'd rather swarm that philanderer Vorusk than stand near me for a second."

The arcane energy reached its zenith. His flesh disintegrated in a blinding flash. All that remained on the ground were a few stray hairs from his beard.

This time, he had died with his dignity intact—or at least, with more than Korlic had. He had fallen in combat, not because his life-force had been sucked dry.
