Kross was taken aback when the doll spoke.
For a few seconds, his mind refused to process it—it was really talking. But the shock didn't last long. The thing wouldn't shut up. It blabbered nonstop, its rough voice echoing in the room. "Stupid Alpha! Put me down, you brute! You think you can just grab me like some sack of potatoes?" it shouted, kicking its small fabric legs.
Kross blinked, stunned, then frowned as the doll kept cursing him. "Oh, for crying out loud," It muttered when he gripped it by the back of its tiny shirt and holding it farther away.
Lyra stood frozen, half relieved, half terrified. "Pippin, stop it!" she begged, but the doll only growled, "Tell this idiot to quit manhandling me!"
Kross' patience thinned.
