Beerus stared at the black-haired man who had appeared behind him and felt his headache getting worse.
"And who are you supposed to be? Where did another God of Destruction come from?"
How many unknown Gods of Destruction had crawled out while he was asleep?
It had only been forty-some years. At least, that was what Beerus remembered. So why did it feel as if he had slept for forty thousand? First Bardock. Then that fat pink idiot. Now this man, standing there in God of Destruction attire with a cold face and a flickering ball of light floating beside his shoulder.
He looked a little slow, too.
"Broly," the man said.
"Broly?" Beerus searched his memory, found nothing, and snorted. "Never heard of you."
The moment Buu heard that voice, his flattened body began struggling to pull itself back together. He fought with it for a while, but after everything Beerus had done to him, all he managed to form was a round, pudgy head.
"Broly!" Buu burst into tears at once. "I missed you!"
He cried like a child, tears streaming down his face.
The little ball of light beside Broly flickered. Ai sighed softly. "Buu, how did you get beaten this badly?"
Broly looked down at him. "Since when do you cry this much?"
"I cried because I missed you!" Buu sniffled.
After a second, he added, "Ai, I missed you too."
"You're not allowed to miss Ai," Broly said.
Buu looked completely lost. "Why?"
"Because she's mine. Only I'm allowed to miss her."
Buu stared at him, still not understanding.
Beerus glanced between Broly and Ai, then smiled colder. "What? Are we taking turns now? Fine. Keep coming."
"Buu is my second-best friend," Broly said. "You beat him like this. I won't forgive you."
Buu froze.
That hurt.
He had always thought of Broly as his best friend, and here Broly was calling him second-best.
Beerus, on the other hand, found it funny. "Oh? Then who's your best friend?"
"Ken."
"Ken? That little Angel?"
Broly did not bother answering. He raised a hand instead, and two Senzu Beans appeared between his fingers. "I'm not taking turns with anyone. I'll beat you myself."
He flicked one of the Senzu Beans toward Beerus.
Beerus caught it and looked down at the tiny bean. "Trying to poison me before we fight?"
"It's a Senzu Bean," Broly said. "Eat it, and your strength will recover."
As he spoke, he flicked the second bean into Buu's mouth. Buu swallowed, and his ruined body immediately puffed back into its normal round shape.
Beerus watched Buu recover, then looked at the bean in his own hand.
"You want me to recover before fighting you?" Beerus sneered. "Arrogant. I don't need it. Against someone like you, one ten-thousandth of my strength is enough to make you crawl."
He said that, but he did not destroy the Senzu Bean. Instead, he quietly put it away.
"In that case, we start," Broly said. "Ai, Buu, move back."
"Okay," Ai replied, her light flickering.
Ai and Buu withdrew to a safer distance. Once they were far enough away, Buu opened his mouth and spat out a small doll-like figure. The figure changed shape the moment it landed, returning to Bardock's form.
Buu raised his hands, covering Bardock with healing light. Bardock's wounds vanished, and his strength returned to its peak.
"Thank you, Little God of Destruction," Bardock said.
Buu grinned. "Say it again. I like hearing that."
Bardock could only repeat it.
As he spoke, he turned toward the battlefield and saw Broly standing opposite Beerus. His eyes brightened. "Broly is back."
"Mm-hm," Buu said, settling into spectator mode. "Now it'll be fun."
Broly looked at Beerus one last time. "You're sure you won't eat the Senzu Bean?"
"I already told you," Beerus said. "Against you, one ten-thousandth of my power is enough to turn you into cosmic dust."
Broly answered with action.
Dark green fire erupted around him. His hair shot upward, then grew long and wild behind him, lightning snapping across his body as his pressure filled the sealed battlefield.
Legendary Super Saiyan Three.
Beerus's pupils shrank.
The power coming from Broly was not God ki. It was raw energy, pure and violent, but it was dense enough to stand beside a high-level god's power.
Broly vanished in a dark green streak.
"Wait—" Beerus blurted, finally sensing danger.
Broly did not wait. He drove his head straight into Beerus's stomach, and Beerus spat blood as his body folded around the impact. Before he could recover, Broly kept driving forward and slammed him into the thick barrier.
The sealed space rang. Beerus coughed up more blood, feeling for a moment as if even his heart had been jolted loose.
"Damn you!" Beerus roared, trying to counterattack.
Broly had already jumped back. He sprang upward with an uppercut that caught Beerus under the jaw and lifted him from the barrier.
"You arrogant brat!" Beerus kicked out in fury, but Broly rose again with another uppercut and cut off the attack before it could land. Beerus was knocked upward, dropped back down, and landed hard on his rear, his anger now mixed with humiliation.
He swept a leg out, trying to take Broly off his feet. Broly hopped over it and brought an elbow down on Beerus's head.
Beerus's vision blurred.
Broly had forced him into a corner of Ken's barrier, and once Beerus was there, he did not get room to breathe. A heavy punch sank into his stomach. Broly grabbed the back of his head and smashed his face into the barrier floor, then pressed down and dragged him across the invisible surface.
When that was done, Broly flipped him over and punched him in the stomach again. Beerus choked, his arms and legs lifting from the force, and Broly seized his arm and began slamming him around the sealed space like a rag doll.
Back at Capsule Corporation, everyone stared at the projection in stunned silence.
They all knew Broly was strong. No one had expected him to beat Beerus like this.
Merus gave a helpless little smile. "Beerus-sama must be in a lot of pain."
"It was a good thing he didn't eat the Senzu Bean," Ken said.
Merus blinked. "You mean he should have eaten it, right?"
"No. Not eating it was the right choice."
"Why?"
"If he ate it, he could take more punishment. Broly would just beat him longer."
Merus had no reply.
Broly beat Beerus for ten full minutes.
By the end of it, Beerus was bruised, swollen, and nearly unrecognizable. He had not lost because he was incapable of fighting back in theory. He had lost because Broly had forced him into a corner before he could bring out his real strength, then pressed him down so hard that he never got the chance.
Beerus lay on the barrier floor, glaring up at him with pure resentment.
Broly crooked a finger.
The Senzu Bean hidden on Beerus flew out and landed in his hand.
Broly held it up. "Want it now?"
Beerus nodded weakly.
"Too late."
Broly stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face. "That was for Ken."
Beerus cried out.
Broly punched him in the stomach next, forcing another mouthful of blood from him. "That was for Bulma."
Then he kicked Beerus across the floor. "That was for Buu."
Buu's eyes lit up. "Broly, let me do that one myself!"
He rushed over, leapt into the air, flipped once, and dropped rear-first toward Beerus's face.
Beerus's expression changed. With the last bit of strength he could gather, he thrust one fist upward.
The punch sank in somewhere no one wanted to look too closely at.
Buu's face turned red.
The entire audience went silent.
A heartbeat later, Beerus screamed. Disgust hit him harder than panic as he tried to pull his hand back without thinking about where it had gone.
Ai flickered anxiously. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Buu said, scratching his head.
"Doesn't it hurt?"
"Not at all." Buu shook his head. "It actually feels pretty good."
Ai fell silent.
Disgusting.
Beerus finally pulled his hand free. For reasons no one wanted to understand, he brought it near his nose and sniffed.
He almost passed out.
What did I just punch?
Broly covered his forehead, speechless.
Buu stepped on Beerus's face. "That was for Bardock."
Then he kicked Beerus upward and flew after him. "And that one was for Goku."
Beerus gritted his teeth. "That Saiyan and I were only sparring!"
Buu leaned close to his ear, grinning. "Also, those first three times I hit you? I did it on purpose."
Beerus's eyes widened.
Purple-red light flared from his battered body.
Buu stiffened.
How did he still have that much energy?
Beerus slapped him so hard that Buu's head spun around his neck several times.
Buu stared dizzily ahead.
Scary.
"You fat bastard!" Beerus roared. "You think I'm easy to bully?"
Destruction energy gathered in his hand. "Die!"
He hurled the attack at Buu.
Broly moved before it could land. He grabbed Buu by the clothes, yanked him behind himself, and crossed both arms in front of his body.
The destruction energy swallowed Broly in a violent purple-red blast.
Beerus gave a weak, satisfied laugh. "Idiot. Throwing yourself in front of that fat fool."
At least one of them was handled.
That much destruction energy should erase him completely.
The purple-red light slowly faded.
Broly was still standing.
Beerus stared at him, disbelief spreading across his battered face. "You… you're fine?"
"Nothing special," Broly said.
Beerus's voice shook. "What are you?"
Buu popped up beside Broly, grinning as if he had been waiting for this exact moment. "You still don't know? Broly is the Great God of Destruction. He commands all Gods of Destruction. Officially certified, too!"
