Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: That Tom Guy is Actually Pretty Nice

Ten minutes later, Kudo Shinichi, wrapped in a blanket, was explaining to Ran with a head full of sweat.

From the reason his body had shrunk, to the idea of hiding in the Mouri house, to the matter of the Black Organization, he didn't hide anything, including the fact that the mother who had picked him up yesterday was his real mother, Kudo Yukiko, in disguise.

Even the matter of Tom was explained as they had discussed before, as a collaborator seeking revenge on the Organization.

Although he was completely unprepared for this before, having been screwed over by Tom to this extent, he naturally couldn't continue to pretend. He could only honestly explain everything to Ran to obtain her forgiveness.

To be honest, after he started speaking, he felt as if everything had become much easier.

He no longer needed to deceive Ran, and in the future, he wouldn't have to worry about his identity being suspected by her.

If there was any regret, it was probably that he could no longer take a bath with Ran in the future?

In any case, Kudo Shinichi quickly cast this thought aside.

No, that's not right. I've already changed back to my original form, so I can't live in the Mouri house anymore. Since my parents probably haven't left Japan yet, should I go find my mom and ask for a human-skin mask to give myself a new identity?

Back when I went to Hawaii with my dad to learn all sorts of skills, why didn't I think of learning this skill from my mom too? Otherwise, it wouldn't be so troublesome now.

As for Ran, her emotions had also gone through a rollercoaster-like change in these ten minutes.

From anxiety at the beginning, to shock, then to anger after being deceived, and worry when she knew the truth.

She could never have imagined that the two men in black she had seen at the amusement park would be involved in a powerful transnational criminal organization, and that they had even fed him a poison to turn him into his current state.

She recalled that the day Conan appeared was indeed the day Kudo Shinichi disappeared.

After that, she had been suspicious. After all, ever since Conan came over, her father had suddenly become a great detective and had inexplicably gained the title of "Sleeping Kogoro." Could there be something fishy about that?

But her suspicion at that time had been muddled through by the voice-changing bow tie invented by Dr. Agasa.

Now it seemed that all the changes in their family in the past few months had been self-directed and self-acted by the shrunken Kudo Shinichi.

Ran, who had been worried about Shinichi getting into such big trouble, suddenly became a little angry again.

After all, she had been deceived for so long. If it weren't for Shinichi suddenly feeling unwell today, who knows how long he would have kept this matter from her.

Thinking that the two of them had even been taking a bath together just now, Mouri Ran's hand couldn't help but clench tightly. If it weren't for the fact that Kudo Shinichi was still drenched in sweat, she probably would have beaten him up on the spot.

Kudo Shinichi, who had returned to his original form, looked nervously at Ran's hand holding the cup, afraid that she would use too much force and directly crush it.

After a good while, feeling that Ran should have calmed down, Kudo Shinichi continued to explain to her, both guaranteeing and playing the victim, and finally managed to soothe her.

After calming down, Ran finally asked Kudo Shinichi again about the current situation.

"So have you found an antidote now?"

Confirming that he had finally passed Ran's trial, Kudo Shinichi wiped his forehead, then shook his head. "I'm not too sure either. This was all sent to me by that Tom. I thought at first it was to treat my cold."

He clenched his fist. He could feel that he was still very weak now, and he even had a vague feeling in his heart that he had only temporarily changed back to his original form.

And just at this moment, a knocking sound suddenly came from the window of Ran's bedroom. Ran was startled.

You have to know, this was not the first floor. Who would come to knock on her window?

Kudo Shinichi, on the other hand, keenly sensed that it should be Jerry's sound. He immediately told Ran to open the window and see.

Ran looked at Kudo Shinichi with some suspicion, but out of her trust in him, she still did as he said cautiously.

After opening the window, she saw a piece of paper placed on the windowsill. But looking around, she couldn't see a single figure.

Ran quickly took the note, closed the window properly, and turned back to Kudo Shinichi.

She hadn't discovered anything on her side, but Kudo Shinichi had seen it. Not long after Ran turned around, Jerry's little head had popped out from the side of the window, greeted him, and then made a gesture of farewell. It seemed its mission for tonight was over.

Looking at Jerry's expression, it seemed he was just a little curious about his current situation but did not show a particularly surprised look. It seemed he had expected it long ago.

"It's a note. It seems to have a lot of things written in it," Ran glanced at Kudo Shinichi, and only after confirming it was okay did she open the note.

"I wonder how you feel about the gift I sent you. Although there is still drug resistance at the moment, and the duration probably won't be too long, it should still be a pleasant surprise for you.

The next time we meet, I will tell you what on earth you drank today. But I think, since your big sister Ran already knows your identity, before you deal with the organization, you probably won't be in such a hurry to want to change back into Kudo Shinichi, right?"

Ran read the contents of the note with a puzzled expression, then looked at the Kudo Shinichi in front of her.

Kudo Shinichi, on the other hand, sighed helplessly. The note was clearly prepared in advance. It seemed his reaction after drinking that bottle of liquor was completely within the other party's expectations.

That Tom's personality is really terrible.

He had been suggesting that he have a showdown with Ran before. He was still hesitating, but the other party had clearly seen that he was not ready at all and had simply pulled this trick, forcefully giving him a push from behind.

The current situation was really just as the other party had said. His parents and Ran all knew his current situation.

To avoid being noticed, he really didn't need to be in a hurry to change back into Kudo Shinichi.

"This is the collaborator I mentioned to you. He was the one who suggested I explain the truth to you before. I was originally thinking of finding a suitable opportunity, but I didn't expect that guy to pull this on me. To use such a precious antidote now is really a waste," Kudo Shinichi said with a bitter smile, repeating the suggestion the other party had given him.

To Kudo Shinichi's explanation, Ran let out a "hmph." Having grown up together, she clearly didn't believe that he would have honestly revealed his identity to her. If she hadn't happened to run into him today, he probably would have continued to hide it.

Speaking of which, she even had to thank that Tom for letting her know what kind of danger her childhood friend was facing now.

Although I haven't met that Tom yet, he seems like a pretty nice guy.
