Sarah had looked through a few pages of the book. Some parts talked about the people Sarah saw with Marcus near the campfire. It said that Matthew sets up traps in the forest, Cacy is quick and silent, Nickel has a sharp sense of hearing as well as sight, and finally Marcus was the smart one among them. Sarah then went to the last page of the book and saw a name written on it along with a house address. It was written as:
Greg Mutambo
Ingola central, east road, house number 4.
Sarah found a side bag and took it. She hung it on her shoulder and put the book inside. She then carried the injured girl on her back and carried her out of the cabin. They walked through the forest hoping to find the exit, but as they walked, Sarah's leg was caught on a rope and she was pulled up. The injured girl fell off Sarah's back and landed hard on her back, making her wake up. When she looked up she saw Sarah dangling on a rope.
The girl had no idea of what was going on. She crawled toward the tree where Sarah was dangling from. She used the tree for support. When she looked at Sarah one more time she remembered her and broke a branch off the tree and began to walk away. Sarah saw her but did not bother to shout for her because she couldn't hear a thing.
Sarah looked at her leg which was caught on the rope. She tried to undo the knot in order to get her leg free. When she did it, she quickly held on to the rope and began to climb up. When she reached the branch of the tree and mounted on top of it, she felt a bit relieved. As she was up on the tree she saw a ranger outpost. She then thought to herself that she might find something to use to call for help.
She climbed down the tree and before she could even start walking she remembered Samantha and was still worried for her. Sarah had no idea of where Samantha could be and was still wondering why she attacked her earlier. Sarah then reassured herself, "I might find something that could help call for help." Sarah then began to walk to the outpost.
Samantha stood at the door of the cabin. It was made of oak wood but wasn't furnished. The doorknob seemed to look rusty. Samantha took hold of the doorknob and pulled the handle down. When she took a peek inside she could barely see a thing. It was dark inside. The only thing that seemed to at least give some light in the cabin was the moonlight that beamed through the windows.
Samantha stepped one foot into the cabin. When her foot touched the floorboard a loud creak was made. Samantha got startled and raised her foot without hesitation. She then heard a soft whisper come from behind.
"What's wrong?" it asked.
"Nothing, Penelope," Samantha replied, "just got startled."
Samantha then walked into the cabin. As she went further away from the door she bumped into a small table. When she did, she quickly caught it before it could fall. She then noticed there was an oil lamp and a matchbox. She opened the matchbox and saw only one matchstick. She lit it up and used it to light up the oil lamp.
"At least we have some light, right, Penelope."
"Yeah," Penelope replied, "just be careful, okay."
"Alright, I will."
Samantha walked through the cabin. She went through the living room, the bedrooms, and the kitchen but couldn't find Vanessa's diary. As she passed through the hallway she asked Penelope a question concerning the book.
"All you have to know is the book will help us a lot," Penelope answered.
Samantha then lowered the lamp and made a fist. She then asked,
"Why can't I trust Sarah again?"
"Sarah is dangerous," Penelope answered. "You just can't remember the horrors that she did with Mai."
"I know, but—"
"Sarah never bothered to tell what happened at that place because she knows she was nothing but a monster."
Samantha then looked down. Unsure of what to say as a response, she kept quiet. But as she looked down she noticed a loose floorboard. She knelt down and pulled the floorboard and saw a small shoebox. She opened it and saw a small notebook and asked Penelope, "Do you think this is Vanessa's diary?"
"Maybe," she replied, "open it."
Samantha opened the book and saw the first page. There was a sticky note that was stuck on the page. It read:
To my darling daughter Grace from your father.
She flipped the page and saw the name of the owner of the notebook. Right before Samantha could read the name she heard footsteps coming from the door. She took the book in her hand and blew out the light. She then quickly hid herself in one of the bedrooms.
A man was inside the cabin. He walked around and noticed that a loose floorboard had been removed. He continued to walk and entered one of the bedrooms and saw an oil lamp on the floor next to the bed. Right before he could even pick up the oil lamp, he heard something moving in the closet. He walked towards the closet and held the knobs gently. He then, without hesitation, opened the closet doors and shone his flashlight at what he saw.
