Chapter 199: Assault on the Lunar Base III
Seeing the bullets bounce right off the spacesuit, Tsubarov cried out in disbelief, "That's impossible—impossible! There must be a bulletproof vest hidden under that suit. Yes, that's got to be it!"
Then he pulled the trigger again, firing several rounds straight at Lady's head.
But even after emptying his pistol, the result didn't change. The energy shield covering Lady's body didn't so much as ripple—each bullet was deflected the instant it got close.
Lady drew her own pistol calmly, aimed it at Tsubarov, and said, "Looks like the tables have turned. You won't be the one executing me today—it'll be me executing you."
Tsubarov's face went pale, and his legs gave out as he collapsed to the floor. "You can't kill me! I'm still useful to OZ and Treize! I can build new—"
Before he could finish, Lady pulled the trigger. She fired several shots into his head and chest, killing him instantly.
"You shouldn't speak Lord Treize's name so casually," she muttered. Raising her left hand, she looked at the spatial-compression wristband on her wrist and said to herself,
"This bracelet really is amazing. Lord Tolle saved me again. With this, Lord Treize will surely be safe as well."
And so, without Tolle's knowledge, the course of the Gundam Wing world had been altered. After all, the MD forces' main production base had now been seized by OZ troops under Treize's command.
The original large-scale, global invasion of Earth was no longer possible. At best, only localized or small-scale incursions could still happen.
With Tsubarov dead and the lunar base captured by Lady, the colonies' mobile suit production wasn't even enough for their own defense. What could the Romefeller Foundation use to launch a full-scale assault on Earth now?
At that moment, Duo and Chang Wufei, having escaped from prison, hurried to the hangar where two Gundams were stored. They boarded the Gundam Deathscythe Hell and the Altron Gundam, then charged toward the MD manufacturing plant.
But when they arrived, all they saw were piles of Virgo drone wreckage—and standing among them, the Tallgeese Wing Zero, with a group of space-type Leos gathered at the entrance behind it.
Tolle gazed at the Deathscythe Hell and Altron Gundam, thinking how cool they looked. If only his own Wing Zero Snow White Prelude were finished, he'd love to show it off too.
Before he could dwell on the thought, Duo, without saying a word, lunged forward in the Deathscythe Hell, swinging his twin beam scythe straight at Tolle's Tallgeese Wing Zero.
But Tolle, who had his mind focused and senses sharpened, easily dodged the strike. He countered with his knight's lance, knocking the Deathscythe Hell to the ground, then stomped down hard on it with his left foot to pin it in place.
Not wanting the space-type Leos behind him to be destroyed by the two Gundam pilots, Tolle opened his communicator and said to Wufei,
"Chang Wufei, long time no see. You've switched suits, huh? This new one looks even cooler than your old one. But tell me—has your piloting improved? Want to test it out?"
Hearing the disguised voice, Wufei recognized it immediately—it was Darks. He clenched his teeth. "Darks! What are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here? Obviously, I came to save you two. Otherwise, how do you think you escaped so easily and got your Gundams back?
"And this is how you treat your savior? Your friend attacked me without a word—so much for gratitude."
Inside his cockpit, Duo let out a sheepish groan. "Ahaha… sorry about that. Our mistake. But could you maybe take your foot off my Deathscythe Hell first? Getting face-planted in my first sortie isn't exactly good luck."
Tolle chuckled and lifted his foot, letting the Deathscythe Hell stand up again. Then he said to Wufei, "Wufei, shall we have another match?"
"My pleasure," Wufei replied. He raised the Altron Gundam's twin beam trident, taking a ready stance.
"Wufei, let's change the rules this time," Tolle said. "Fighting each other here isn't the right time or place. There are still plenty of drones outside—how about we see who can destroy more?"
Wufei thought for a moment, then nodded. "Fine. We'll do it your way."
Tolle couldn't help but feel a bit amused. Wufei was actually quite honorable—a true martial spirit. And now he was happily letting himself be used to clear out the drones. Poor guy, working hard without realizing he was being played.
"I won't take advantage of you," Tolle continued. "My suit's long-range firepower is stronger. It'd be unfair if it was just you, so why don't you and your partner count your kills together?"
After some thought, Wufei agreed. He might be proud, but he wasn't stupid—he could tell when the odds were in his favor.
The three Gundams left the hangar, only to find the area outside swarming with Virgo drones. A few Taurus units still hovered in the skies above the lunar base, their numbers even greater than when Tolle had left earlier. Clearly, Tsubarov had hidden additional forces at every exit.
The few dozen space-type Leos brought from the Barge base had nearly been wiped out. Of the ten who infiltrated the base with Lady, those still alive were simply lucky.
The moment the three Gundams emerged, the Virgos detected them and immediately opened fire, unleashing beams from their cannons.
Duo took the lead, raising the Deathscythe Hell's active cloak to block the oncoming beams.
When the barrage ended, the Deathscythe Hell spread its cloak wide, raised its twin beam scythe, and dove into the drone formation. With every swing, it reaped Virgos like a grim reaper harvesting souls.
When it spotted a cluster of enemies further down the same path, it hurled its spinning destroyer shield, slicing through several drones and tearing them apart.
Meanwhile, Wufei strolled calmly onto the battlefield. His Gundam's hands transformed into dragon claws, which he used to crush two Virgos' heads on either side.
Then the twin beam cannons mounted on his back rose like dragon tails and fired two beams, blasting apart another drone's head.
Wufei then retracted his dragon claws and drew his twin-beam trident. Charging into the fray, he spun the weapon rapidly above his head, generating a glowing ring as he dashed through the battlefield—cutting down any Virgo that came near.
