Su Qinglan sat beside him for a long time, just watching the slow rise and fall of his chest. Only after a while she turned her head toward Xuan Long, who was sitting near the stone bed.
"Xuan Long," she said softly, "have you eaten anything? You must be tired too… All this happened because of me."
Her voice was filled with worry.
Xuan Long looked at her for a moment, then gave a small nod. "Don't worry. I ate a lot in the morning. And even if I didn't, beastmen can go hungry for many days. You don't need to worry about me."
Su Qinglan wanted to argue, wanted to tell him he should still eat something, but his calm eyes stopped her. He looked so sure, so strong, that she couldn't say more.
So she just nodded quietly.
But Xuan Long could feel something had changed in her. She was quiet now, nothing like the bright and talkative female from before. It was like all her light had dimmed after seeing Hu Yan's wounds.
His chest felt tight watching her like that.
