Chapter 350 - Mutants are Man-Made, Iron Man Killed Wolverine, and Cyclops Killed Magneto!

You have to hand it to Nick Fury—the man is a master of keeping secrets.

If the diary hadn't spoiled his true background, his real identity would probably never have come to light.

There was just one thing Ultimate Tony found strange. He couldn't help but glance at the eyepatch worn by Egghead, who was sitting not far away.

The diary said Nick Fury had regenerative abilities, so why was he still blind in one eye?

Was his healing factor too weak?

Or had he lost his eye before he ever gained his superhuman abilities?

Considering Nick Fury's military background and his time on the battlefield, that was a distinct possibility.

Or perhaps the eye under the eyepatch was perfectly fine?

Was he wearing it just to deceive everyone?

Given Egghead's cunning and deceptive nature, such a ruse wouldn't be surprising at all.

[And so, fate is truly a strange thing.]

[Nick Fury could never have imagined that a single act of theft, born of greed, would completely alter his destiny, could he?]

[And the same goes for his accomplice in that theft. Can you believe he actually became the world's first Mutant?]

[That's right. In this universe, Mutants aren't the result of some random genetic mutation—they were artificially created.]

[Haha, these two are something else. One became the Progenitor Super Soldier, and the other became the Progenitor Mutant!]

*So this is the "story" of how Nick Fury became a Super Soldier?*

Ultimate Tony found the revelation both surprising and, in a strange way, unsurprising.

The surprising part was that, according to the diary, Nick Fury's participation in the experiment was a total accident!

Because Nick Fury was a deserter who got caught while stealing!

And then what happened?

Even though the diary didn't explain it in detail, Ultimate Tony could easily guess the rest.

Without a doubt, Nick Fury was treated as a mere guinea pig, forcibly dragged into a laboratory.

Given the situation of Black people in that era, this was the most likely outcome. Ultimate Tony could even imagine that before Nick Fury, many other Black people must have suffered the same fate.

Only Egghead was lucky enough to become that one-in-a-million survivor.

And in reality?

Ultimate Tony's guess was completely correct.

Whether it was Nick Fury from the Ultimate Universe or Black Captain America from the neighboring Universe 199999, they were all captured and subjected to experiments in such a brutal manner.

It was nothing like Steve Rogers, who went through the "official channels" and voluntarily cooperated with the military.

Of course, Ultimate Tony didn't care about such matters.

After quickly organizing his thoughts, he refocused his attention on the diary.

He was immediately shocked.

"Mutants... are actually man-made?"

"Just like Nick Fury, they were all born on an operating table?"

Ultimate Tony was truly shaken by this bombshell of a revelation.

The scientific community and society at large had long engaged in fierce debates over the origins of Mutants. The prevailing view was that they were a product of natural evolution. A large faction, led by Magneto, went even further, asserting that Mutants represented the next stage of human evolution—the very direction humanity was destined to take. Magneto had even declared publicly on multiple occasions that Mutants were chosen by God to rule the world!

Yet now, the diary was telling Ultimate Tony that all of this was a lie—that it was all wrong.

Mutants weren't an evolutionary leap at all; they were artificially created.

Didn't this mean that Mutants were just another type of Super Soldier?

There was no difference at all!

It had to be said, this information was utterly subversive. If it ever got out, it would cause an absolute firestorm.

No, it would be a catastrophe.

The people under Professor X's guidance might be manageable, but Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants would undoubtedly cause chaos.

Magneto would never accept such a "smear campaign" against Mutants.

With his radical methods, he would almost certainly launch another major attack.

After all these years, Professor X and other relevant agencies had finally managed to establish the current, relatively harmonious state between humans and Mutants.

Ultimate Tony had no intention of seeing this shattered!

"This secret must be kept!"

"It absolutely cannot be leaked!"

Ultimate Tony recognized the gravity of the situation and made this decision in an instant.

In fact, long before Ultimate Tony learned about it from the diary, Nick Fury had accidentally discovered the secret himself.

Mutants were not the result of natural evolution; like him, they were all created in a lab.

And Nick Fury?

He had made the same decision as Ultimate Tony: he had killed every single person who knew the truth.

That was how the lie about Mutants had been maintained to this day.

"The Mutants of the Ultimate Universe... are actually man-made?"

Tony from Universe 199999 was also utterly astonished by this.

Not only were mutants artificial, but they also shared a deep connection with Nick Fury!

After all, the diary used the word "brothers" to describe the relationship between Nick Fury, the Progenitor Super Soldier, and the Progenitor Mutant.

Although it wasn't explicitly stated, Tony guessed that Nick Fury wasn't the only one who had been caught while stealing and attempting to escape back then.

There must have been others.

At least two of them.

The Progenitor Mutant must have been one of them.

And since both sides had stolen things and escaped together in the army, their relationship naturally went without saying.

He just wondered who the Progenitor Mutant in the neighboring universe actually was.

Anyway, it couldn't be Apocalypse, right?

[Why did Magneto's faith finally crumble, and why did he ultimately restore the Earth's magnetic poles that he had flipped?]

[Wasn't it because that old fox Nick Fury told Magneto the truth?]

[Otherwise, how could Cyclops possibly have killed Magneto? Magneto had already lost his will to live.]

"After all, back on Savage Land, how many superheroes were powerless against Magneto?"

"He even toyed with them in the palm of his hand."

"Take the tragic Iron Man, for example. Magneto seized control of his armor and forced him to kill Wolverine, leaving him utterly devastated for a long time."

"From this perspective, Nick Fury could be said to have saved the entire world."

*Phew!*

This latest wave of spoilers made Ultimate Tony let out a long sigh of relief.

The heavy stone that had been weighing on his chest finally seemed to lift.

Ever since the diary mentioned Magneto reversing the Earth's magnetic poles, Ultimate Tony had been pondering how to deal with a crisis of that magnitude.

But for the moment, he had come up with no answers at all.

After all, as long as the Earth's magnetic poles remained reversed, global disasters like the Great Flood of New York would persist.

It was no exaggeration to say that the extinction of the entire human race was a distinct possibility.

Even if humanity managed to survive such a catastrophe, it was certain that the vast majority would perish.

The tiny fraction that did survive wouldn't necessarily last much longer. The very survival of human civilization would be gravely threatened.

The only solution was to restore Earth's magnetic poles to their original state.

But in the entire world, no one but Magneto could achieve such a feat. Even a scientist of Ultimate Tony's caliber would find it impossible—this was the magnetic axis of the Earth, after all. It was far beyond Ultimate Tony's capabilities.

But if Magneto had already decided to flip the poles, why would he ever restore them? No one could be sure of that, could they?

Fortunately, the diary finally revealed the solution to Ultimate Tony.

If he failed to prevent Scarlet Witch's death and the tragedy of Magneto flipping the poles still came to pass, he would have to use the Truth of Mutants against him.

It made sense. Magneto was a fanatical believer in the "Mutant God's Chosen" theory.

Forcing him to face the truth would be equivalent to crushing his spirit.

And *that* kind of blow is the most fatal of all.

But in the end, Magneto actually died at the hands of Cyclops?

Ultimate Tony was no stranger to Cyclops; he was a member of the X-Men.

Back when Hulk's identity had been exposed, before the government's trial officially began, Cyclops had come to the Three-Faced Tower with Professor X, offering to take custody of Bruce Banner. But Egghead had rejected them.

That was why Ultimate Tony found this so surprising.

Professor X's X-Men generally didn't kill—even their enemies.

But Ultimate Tony quickly understood. The diary had mentioned before that Magneto killed Professor X!

So it wasn't surprising that Cyclops would strike such a lethal blow against Magneto.

"Professor X is dead, and Magneto is dead too?"

Tony in Universe 199999 felt a profound sense of speechlessness.

The developments in the neighboring universe were truly beyond anyone's expectations.

Superheroes, supervillains—they're all dropping dead left and right, without a single moment's hesitation.

It was bad enough that Professor X, one of the two great mutant leaders, had died. But now, the other leader, Magneto, was dead too.

And it wasn't just Magneto. Even a character as pivotal as Wolverine had died.

After all, in the TRN414 Universe, Wolverine was still alive and well, even after the mutants were nearly wiped out. He had even traveled through time to reverse the future.

Yet, in the neighboring universe, he was actually killed by another version of himself?

There was no doubt: Magneto must have been controlling the other Wolverine's armor to pull this off.

But could the Magneto from the neighboring universe really achieve such "precise" control?

No matter how you looked at it, the Magneto from the Ultimate Universe seemed to be more powerful than the one from the TRN414 Universe.

[Quicksilver probably never imagined that all his elaborate schemes would end like this, did he?]

[Wanda is dead, and Magneto is dead too! The two great mutant leaders, along with countless other mutant compatriots, have suffered staggering casualties.]

[That's right. Ultron, Magneto, and even Doctor Doom—who thought he was the one pulling the strings—were all just pawns in Quicksilver's game. Can you believe it?]

[The Ultimate Universe really is full of ruthless bastards.]

[It's just a shame that Quicksilver, that ruthless bastard, still couldn't outplay Reed, the ultimate ruthless bastard.]

[In the end, Reed killed him in a desperate grab for the Infinity Gems.]

"Quicksilver?"

"The incident with Magneto reversing the magnetic poles... he was involved in that too?"

Ultimate Tony was beyond stunned.

He thought he'd grasped the full picture from the diary's spoilers. The diary had even explicitly stated that this was all caused by the tragedy of Ultron assassinating Wanda.

But now the diary was claiming that the mastermind behind everything was actually Quicksilver?

How did any of this make sense?

Aren't Quicksilver and Wanda siblings? And aren't they Magneto's children?

So you're telling me Quicksilver is the mastermind behind his sister's murder and his father's death?

This has to be fake.

It's impossible!

Even though he'd already fully accepted the diary's claims, Ultimate Tony still found this one hard to believe.

The revelation was just too shocking.

Besides, Ultimate Tony knew Quicksilver personally; they'd worked on numerous missions together.

To Tony, Quicksilver was just a cold, aloof young man who was a bit difficult to get along with. He constantly clung to his sister and showed his seniors none of the respect they deserved.

Of course, that wasn't the point. The point was that Quicksilver seemed genuinely simple-minded. He always gave his all to every mission Nick Fury assigned.

Coupled with his impressive abilities, everyone trusted Quicksilver implicitly.

But now the diary was claiming Quicksilver was a cunning old fox?

A master of schemes and manipulation?

This was a real shock to Ultimate Tony.

And even if Magneto's magnetic pole reversal was Quicksilver's doing—even if Quicksilver was the mastermind behind it all—what the hell was Doctor Doom doing in this?

Was Doctor Doom involved in this too?

That guy was extremely dangerous!

Ultimate Tony's expression grew grave, and he even felt a massive headache coming on.

It seemed that Magneto's reversal of the Earth's magnetic poles was far more complicated than he had imagined.

He had previously thought that simply preventing Wanda from being killed by Ultron would be enough to avoid it.

At this moment, Ultimate Tony felt completely unsure of himself.

He had lost his grip on the situation.

"Infinity Gems."

After a brief moment of frustration, Ultimate Tony refocused his attention on the diary and was immediately drawn to those words.

The diary had mentioned before that he had an Infinity Gem in his mind.

Ultimate Tony had specifically inquired with Tony from the other universe and knew exactly what level of existence the Infinity Gems were in Universe 199999.

So, seeing the diary mention them now, he didn't dare to be careless in the slightest. His expression immediately turned solemn.
