Inside a cell at the military base, Bruce Banner was being held.
After General Ross brought Bruce Banner and Betty to the base, he locked Banner up. Betty was sent by Ross to a secure location.
Thinking of the Abomination wreaking havoc outside, Banner felt a deep guilt—no one knew better than him how terrifying the Abomination was. And the Abomination had been created using his own serum.
He remembered the massive damage from his first transformation. The nightmares returned. The green factor in his blood seemed to be surfacing again.
A possibility struck him: simply purging the green factor from his blood could never restore him to normal. The green factor had already fused into his bone marrow. As long as he didn't die, it would keep producing more. That was why his anger made him grow stronger and larger.
It felt like fate was giving him a chance—both to subdue the Abomination and to atone.
Under the wide-eyed stare of the guard nearby, Banner slammed his head into the wall.
Seeing this, the guard thought Banner was trying to kill himself and rushed to the bars to check. The next second, Banner's body surged, skin flushing green. The guard instantly understood—Banner could still turn into the Hulk.
But as he sprinted out of the cell, he saw something unbelievable: a towering, crimson giant was already springing away into the distance. Aside from the color, it looked almost identical to the Hulk.
A thunderous crash sounded behind him: the Hulk burst out as well. But the red giant had already gone, and the Hulk didn't notice anything like himself nearby. He vaulted toward downtown New York.
New York City, on an unmarked street.
The Abomination, brimming with terrifying power, was tearing through the avenue. The FBI had already arrived. Bullets raked the monster, but to the Abomination they were little more than an itch. He grabbed a compact car and hurled it like a toy into a cluster of FBI agents—several died on the spot.
Leering, the Abomination turned toward the survivors. He was nothing but a creature of destruction now.
Just as he lunged, a beam lanced down from above and struck him, halting his next blow. A red-and-gold figure came into view: Iron Man, fresh from Stark Tower.
Cheers and tears broke out around them. "Iron Man's here! Thank goodness! Take this monster down! He's a demon—my son—"
After nearly an hour of rampage, the Abomination had killed at least a hundred and injured nearly a thousand. Iron Man looked over the ruined street and grimaced. This casualty count is catastrophic. I've got to draw him somewhere empty.
But even after taking the hit, the Abomination seemed unharmed. He glared up at Iron Man, eyes wild, then used a monstrous leap to rocket toward him. Tony juked aside, and the Abomination crashed down onto a van, stomping it flat. The shockwave blasted cars in every direction; a few pedestrians were crushed before they could flee.
Two figures dropped from the sky—the two Spider-Men in their suits: Garfield and Holland. The crowd erupted again. "Spider-Man! Thank goodness! What if the Hellblood Demon showed up?"
Silence fell at that name. For all the terror of the green monster, compared to the Hellblood Demon…
Garfield and Holland heaved a car up, rescuing the trapped. They hurried to the injured.
The Abomination couldn't land a blow on the airborne and agile Iron Man, but Tony's own attacks weren't doing much either—and every one of the Abomination's swings inflicted more collateral damage.
From a distance, Garfield and Holland traded a look. Garfield said, "Can't get Maguire on the phone. Where did this green freak come from? He's insanely strong."
"Feels like he might be even stronger than Maguire. That defense is basically impenetrable," Holland said, jaw tight. "We have to stop him. The destruction's out of control. Go!"
They sprinted at the Abomination. In moments they were on him; twin web-lines snapped out and glued to the monster. They braced and hauled, trying to bind him—but how could their strength match the Abomination's? He swept his arms and a crushing force blasted them away. They righted themselves midair and landed, skidding on the asphalt.
