Abomination stared, dumbstruck at the scene before him.
"Am I next?"
Right on cue, Maguire flashed in front of him. A black blur slammed into the Abomination's chest; the monster lifted clean off the ground.
Up above, the first one Maguire had swatted—the Hulk—was about to crash when, in the next instant, Maguire appeared beneath him. One hammer strike, and Banner shot skyward again.
A body fell; another body rose. Over and over.
The three of them weren't that far off from Maguire in raw power. But in speed, the gap was a canyon. Up in the air with nothing to brace against, they were just kids getting swatted around.
Iron Man, Garfield, Holland—their minds went blank watching it.
"What kind of move is that? My God."
"That speed is insane. Since when is any 'spider' this fast?"
"Good thing those three are built like tanks or they'd be paste."
The pressure in Maguire's chest had finally bled off. He stopped, drifted down to Garfield and Holland, turned his palm, and a cigar appeared between his fingers. He lit up, lounging as he looked toward the street.
A green shape crashed down hard—Abomination, dizzy and reeling.
A tenth of a second later, two more bodies fell straight onto him: Hulk and the Red Hulk. The three stacked like a pile-driver slam, cratering the block. The shock rattled buildings for a hundred meters around. The second impact made the Abomination black out, and even the two Hulks were seeing stars. Their defense was monstrous; the force wasn't fatal—but the altitude and the shock had them wobbling.
A helicopter swept in and hovered. Three figures dropped to the street: Director Nick Fury, Black Widow Natasha, and Hawkeye.
They stared at the toppled "three-Buddha stack," faces taut with disbelief.
Fury's brow knotted. "That tells me one thing: he's still getting stronger. That's a problem. S.H.I.E.L.D. can't contain him anymore. If his power keeps climbing, he'll be the one calling the shots on this planet."
He mentally filed Maguire under Most Dangerous. Humanity's answer to an uncontrollable god is usually just one word: exterminate.
"Fury!" the Red Hulk bellowed. "It's Ross. The Hulk and I came to stop that monster!"
Fury blinked. "Ross? What happened to you?" Then, dry as sandpaper: "Friend or not, you just got pounded."
Hawkeye and Black Widow hurried toward the Abomination to restrain him—when his eyes snapped open. He vaulted away in a single bound.
Maguire's brows lowered. He vanished—and reappeared in the monster's flight path overhead.
Abomination saw him and felt a herd of horses stampede through his skull. What is this thing? This is absurd.
Below, a familiar voice and an even more familiar setup made Tony's skin crawl. Dread pooled in his gut.
The next instant, a brutal blow detonated across Abomination's face. He plummeted, slammed into the asphalt, and carved a crater. He didn't move.
Maguire took a slow drag. "Running? You really don't want to live."
He faded into the night. Tony finally let out a long breath.
Red Hulk and Hulk glared at the pit, ready to go again. Iron Man peered inside—and his face drained.
"He's dead? That freak is actually dead? Hellblood Demon smacked him once and killed him? One slap—dead?"
Tony suddenly felt a lot better about himself. At least he'd survived two.
His suit's bioscan swept the crater: no heartbeat.
The others didn't know yet; they only saw a motionless body. A minute ticked by. Still no movement. The Red Hulk crept forward, reached the edge, and finally stood over the Abomination.
No breathing. No response.
"He… he's dead?" Ross stammered.
Everyone stared, stunned—then terror crept in at the edges.
