Chapter 143 - Chapter 143: Gwen's Hint

Very soon, the whole room was filled with curling cigar smoke.

The few of them were slouched on the sofa, sampling Maguire's premium cigars.

Thor was instantly conquered by the cigar's rich aroma and mellow taste.

"Mister Maguire, with something this good, why didn't you bring it out earlier and share it with us?"

Harry and the others at the side couldn't help chiming in.

"If we'd known your cigars were this good, we would've begged you for some ages ago."

Hearing that, Maguire smiled faintly.

"Alright, enough. Let's talk business. Thor, what did you actually come to me for?

"And another thing—hearing you call me 'Mister Maguire' makes me really uncomfortable. Just call me Maguire."

At Maguire's question, Thor straightened up, pretending to be serious.

"To be honest with you, Maguire, the Avengers once invited me to join them.

"I was wondering what you think about that?"

Hearing this, Maguire couldn't help saying,

"As for that, I'm planning to just sit here and watch from the sidelines."

He continued,

"Whether you join the Avengers or not has nothing to do with me.

"That's completely up to you."

Thor mumbled something shyly under his breath at Maguire's words.

Whatever he said made everyone burst into loud laughter.

"So that's all you came to us for, huh?

"Such a tiny matter, and you even came in person," someone teased.

Thor bantered back with a deliberately exaggerated tone, keeping the mood light.

At that, Garfield, Harry and the others all turned their eyes toward Maguire.

After all, they had long tacitly acknowledged Maguire as the leader of the Spider Alliance.

Maguire smiled.

"This is just a trivial thing. If you want to join, of course you're welcome."

Thor said excitedly,

"That's fantastic! Once I join, what will I need to do?"

Everyone burst out laughing again.

"Thor, you're really something. We don't have any assigned chores for you here."

Right then, Harry suddenly spoke up.

"Maybe we'll have to change our name in the future. 'Spider Alliance' might not be fitting for us anymore.

"Also, there's something I think you'll all be interested in."

Harry waved his hand.

A huge holographic screen appeared before everyone's eyes.

On the holographic screen, crowds of citizens filled the streets.

Many of them were holding signs with 'Spider Church' written on them.

A lot of the signs were covered with drawings of various strange humanoid figures.

Even so, it was easy to tell they were depicting Maguire and the others.

Seeing this, Harry quickly explained,

"As you can see from those drawings—

"It's obvious these citizens already see us as real gods.

"They've even spontaneously formed a church. We've become their faith."

Hearing that, Maguire and the others were all stunned, almost unable to believe it.

"What? We've actually become someone else's faith?"

Maguire then said,

"Let's leave that matter alone for now. There is something else I need to say to everyone. "

Everyone quickly looked over at him.

"As you all know, thanks to my arrangements, the three of us are all attending the same university.

"So, I want to start an interstellar trip during our university years."

At Maguire's words, everyone present was dumbfounded.

"What? An interstellar trip?"

The always-excitable Garfield immediately said, thrilled,

"That's amazing—an interstellar trip!"

Harry, however, couldn't help speaking up,

"It's a good idea, but none of us have the ability to survive long-term in outer space."

Maguire smiled.

"Who says we have to rely on ourselves to head into space? We can take a spaceship."

Harry's expression turned troubled.

"With Oscorp Industries' current capabilities, it's really unrealistic to build a spaceship that can travel through space."

Maguire chuckled.

"Who said I was asking you to build a spaceship, Harry? I've already taken care of the spaceship problem."

Everyone stared at Maguire in disbelief.

"Oh my god, that's insanely cool."

Maguire nodded.

"What's so surprising about that?

"I've already arranged everything. All you three need to do is tell me where you want to go."

After thinking it over, Holland also raised his hand to join in.

Harry, however, could only shake his head helplessly.

"You three go have fun. There's too much going on at Oscorp Industries. I'll stay on Blue Star."

The three of them turned to look at the God of Thunder, Thor.

Thor said with a helpless sigh,

"Honestly, I really do want to go, but Asgard needs me as well.

"Maybe next time. When I have the time, I'll definitely go."

Time jumped forward to that night.

Maguire returned home.

There was still a month to go before university started.

He and the others planned to wait until the semester began, then head into outer space.

A month passed in the blink of an eye.

Tomorrow would be the day Maguire started university.

Uncle Ben and Aunt May looked at Maguire with relieved, gratified smiles.

"Peter, we're proud of you."

Maguire nodded with a warm smile.

Just then, his phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen—it was a call from Gwen.

She had chosen her own university based purely on her personal interests.

Seeing her name, Maguire quickly picked up.

Gwen's gentle voice came from the other end of the line.

"Are you free tonight, Maguire? I'd like to have dinner together."

Hearing that, Maguire thought for a moment, then replied,

"Of course I'm free. I'll come pick you up."

After hanging up, a faint smile appeared on his face.

"Tomorrow's the first day of college. Gwen and I will be apart for a while.

"Her asking me out to dinner at a time like this… even an idiot could tell what it means."
